Abstract Background: Soft markers of aneuploidy are common findings on obstetric ultrasounds but disclosure often increases patient anxiety. It is unknown whether communication training affects patient experience of soft marker disclosure. Our objective was to evaluate clinician experience of a simulation-based communication workshop and assess workshop influence on patient anxiety, understanding, and perception of communication quality.
Methods: We implemented a communication workshop for clinicians at an academic institution in 2019, and assessed clinician anxiety and confidence with counseling before and after. To assess effect of the workshop on patients, we surveyed pregnant people before and after workshop implementation for whom an echogenic intracardiac focus, choroid plexus cyst, or urinary tract dilation was identified. The primary outcome was anxiety. Some respondents completed a semi-structured interview. Interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis.
Results: Twelve clinicians participated. Twenty-one out of 49 eligible patients (43%) completed a survey before the workshop and 40 out of 90 eligible patients (44%) completed a survey after. The risk of high anxiety after was similar to before the workshop (aRR 1.7, 95% CI 0.6-4.2). Twenty patients were recruited for an interview. Qualitative analysis revealed that patients' backgrounds, emotional impact of the conversation and clinician manner influenced perception of communication quality.
Conclusion: While a single clinician workshop did not affect patient anxiety, clinician manner and personalization play a large role in perception of counseling about soft markers of aneuploidy.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to focus on a medical issue which is not held in due consideration in Italy. In chronic pain control and management, specialists may advise at various times drugs, physical therapies, behavioral modification techniques, and not demolitive antinociceptive procedures. Quite often patients do not follow medical prescriptions as one should expect, especially if they are not inpatients. The Authors examine this clinical problem known as compliance and try to explain the reasons for this behaviour from different points of view.

Abstract The MMPI scores, the PPI and the MPQ of seven multi-operated patients for chronic pain complaints of non malignant origin were studied. The results of the analysis performed in this group of surgically treated patients point out that there is a strong evidence of relationship between personality traits and the persistence of pain.

Abstract The adapted DIRAC experiment at the CERN PS accelerator observed for the first time long-lived hydrogenlike π^{+}π^{-} atoms, produced by protons hitting a beryllium target. A part of these atoms crossed the gap of 96 mm between the target and a 2.1  μm thick platinum foil, in which most of them dissociated. Analyzing the observed number of atomic pairs, n_{A}^{L}=436_{-61}^{+157}|_{tot}, the lifetime of the 2p state is found to be τ_{2p}=(0.45_{-0.30}^{+1.08}|_{tot})×10^{-11}  s, not contradicting the corresponding QED 2p state lifetime τ_{2p}^{QED}=1.17×10^{-11}  s. This lifetime value is three orders of magnitude larger than our previously measured value of the π^{+}π^{-} atom ground state lifetime τ=(3.15_{-0.26}^{+0.28}|_{tot})×10^{-15}  s. Further studies of long-lived π^{+}π^{-} atoms will allow us to measure energy differences between p and s atomic states and so to discriminate between the isoscalar and isotensor ππ scattering lengths with the aim to check QCD predictions.
