Abstract Early diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma relies on imaging tests such as ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging. Since surgery is associated with a favorable prognosis, the standard treatment for clinically limited renal cell carcinoma remains surgical resection. Among asymptomatic patients with localized renal cell carcinoma, a small number refuse surgical treatment and survive. We report a case involving a 59-year-old female who underwent a difficult radical nephrectomy 17 years after being diagnosed with malignant tumors due to primary renal cell carcinoma.

Abstract Summary: From flexible electronics and multifunctional textiles to artificial tissues, polymers penetrate nearly every aspect of modern technology. High thermal conductivity of polymers is often required in their applications, where heat dissipation is crucial to maintain product reliability and functionality. However, the intrinsic thermal conductivity of bulk polymers is largely hindered by the randomly coiled and entangled chain conformation. Here, we report a copolymerization strategy that can simultaneously manipulate the intrachain and interchain hopping and increase the thermal conductivity of linear copolymerized polyimide (PI) to three times higher than that of pure PI at a low-level introduction of 2,4,5,7-tetraamino-1,8-dihydroxyanthracene-9,10-dione (10%). In addition, the large-scale copolymerized PI films display thermal stability after annealing. These remarkable results allow bulk PI to be a potential candidate for thermal management, and this copolymerization method may benefit future synthesis of interfacial thermal materials.

Abstract Taking advantage of precise positioning technology, location-based service (LBS) has brought a lot of convenience to people’s daily life and made the city smarter. However, the LBS applications also bring some challenges to personal location privacy protection. In order to obtain services from LBS providers, users have to upload their queries including sensitive information, such as identities and locations. This information may be leaked out by the LBS providers or even eavesdropped on by malicious adversaries, which may cause privacy leakage. To tackle this problem, many solutions have been investigated under the assumption that users are uniformly distributed. However, the users are not always uniformly distributed in real-world situations. For a side-weight inference attack, the adversary would infer that the target user is more likely to belong to the road section with more users, resulting in performance deterioration. In this paper, we investigate the issue of location privacy preservation against side-weight inference attack for non-uniform distributed road network. Meanwhile, we consider the cost function of LBS and formulate the object as a mixed integer programming problem. Then, we propose a road truncation-based scheme to protect location privacy. The road section with high user density is designed to be truncated. Finally, simulation results show that our scheme meets the demand for privacy protection at a low cost. As a result, our scheme is proven to protect users’ location privacy effectively and efficiently.

Abstract In order to analyze the relevant vital signs and infection of sepsis patients, the influencing factors of acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS) are explored. A total of 142 sepsis patients admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to January 2022 are divided into an ALI/ARDS group and a non-ALI/ARDS group according to the incidence of ALI/ARDS. Logistic analysis showed that pulmonary/abdominal infection, fungal origin of infection,

Abstract A series of polyurethane/graphene oxide (PU/GO) solid–solid phase change materials (SSPCMs) were synthesized by using GO as a light-absorbing filler and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a phase change matrix. The effects of PEG content on the energy storage capacity, thermal stability and photo–thermal conversion performance of PU were investigated. The results show that the form-stability of PU/GO decreases while the phase change enthalpy and photo–thermal conversion efficiency of PU/GO increases with the increasing PEG content. The introduction of a very low content of GO can maintain comparable energy storage density and greatly improve light absorption by reasonably modulating the soft segment contents. The PU/GO composite with 92 wt% PEG has a phase change enthalpy of 138.12 J/g and a high photo–thermal conversion efficiency (87.6%). The composite solid–solid PCMs have great potential for effective energy storage and solar energy utilization.

Abstract The thermal transport of Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) nanofiber is contributed by the electronic component of thermal conduction and the phonon component of thermal conduction. The relationship between the electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity of these conducting polymers is of great interest in thermoelectric energy conversation. In this work, we characterized the axial electrical conductivities and thermal conductivities of the single PEDOT:PSS nanofibers and found that the Lorenz number L is larger than Sommerfeld value L 0 at 300 K. In addition, we found that the L increased significantly in the low-temperature region. We consider that this trend is due to the bipolar contribution of conducting polymers with low-level electrical conductivity and the increasing trend of the electronic contribution to thermal conductivity in low-temperature regions.

Abstract The seasonal prediction of sea-ice concentration (SIC), especially sudden loss events, is always challenging. Weddell Sea SIC experienced two unprecedented decline events, falling from 2.21% in the austral winter of 2015 to 0.02% in the austral summer of 2016 and then falling to −2.32% in the austral spring of 2017. This study proposes several statistical prediction models for Weddell Sea SIC and performs them for a period that includes the sudden decline events. We identified six potential oceanic and atmospheric factors at different leading times that relate to the variability of the Weddell Sea SIC, including the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), Niño12 sea surface temperature (SST), Southeastern Indian Ocean (SEIO) SST, Antarctic sea level pressure (SLP), and Weddell Sea surface air temperature (SAT). Multiple linear regression models were employed to establish equations to simulate the variation of Weddell Sea SIC under three groups of climate factors for 1979–2012. These models could effectively reproduce the low-frequency variation of SIC in the Weddell Sea during the simulation period and the high-frequency values through two kinds of error-correction methods developed in this study. After applying these error correction methods, the correlation coefficients (absolute errors) of these models were enhanced (decreased) during the simulation period. In the prediction period of 2013–2018, the corrected models generally predicted well the sudden losses of Weddell Sea SIC. The possible primary factors influencing these sudden losses were the PDO, Niño12 SST, Southern Annular Mode (SAM), and SAT during 2015–2016 and the AMO, PDO, Niño12 SST, SAM, and SAT during 2016–2017.
