Abstract	Adolescence is a human life period characterized by various biological, physical and emotional changes that influence the later adult life. Cervical cancer has medical, socioeconomic, and human significance. It is the most curable, easily diagnosed and even the most preventable of all cancers. Its negative effects are often devastating for the women’ general state of health who acquire it. A bibliographic review of articles was carried out from January to December 2021. The scientific databases used were: Pubmed, Scielo and the Google Scholar search engine. The search was made in national and international articles, with full texts, these were subjected to a critical reading using as theoretical methods: historical-logical analysis and analysis-synthesis and among the empirical ones: documentary analysis. The objective of this review is to show the biological and behavioral conditions that favor the development of cervical cancer in adolescence.

Abstract	Cancer has diverse effects on adolescent health. Facing the diagnosis is difficult, suffering from this disease opens the door to important changes in self-image, future prospects, daily routines, in addition to the devastating effects on the health of the adolescent and the family. The most frequent reactions are: fear, sadness, anger and uncertainty. Coping with the problem with integrity, affective regulation appearing normal, adaptation to action, calm, search for information and social support, reappraisal or cognitive restructuring and distraction are coping strategies suggested for coping with the disease. The intervention of psychology as a specialty allows clarifying, mediating and alleviating the pain of patients and families, it is essential, since it deals with the emotional responses of patients, their families and the medical team.

Abstract	The purpose of this study was to chemically compare samples of Mentha spicata (marketing byproducts, production byproducts, and export material), cultivated in the open field and under greenhouse, using an integrated approach by HPLC/DAD and GC/MS analysis. The presence of phenolic compounds was higher in the marketing byproducts cultivated in the open field. Marketing byproducts also had the highest amount of carvone. For this reason, this byproduct was selected as a candidate for the development of natural ingredients. With the best selected material, the optimization of simultaneous high-intensity ultrasound-assisted extraction processes was proposed for the recovery of the compounds of interest. This extraction was defined by Peleg’s equation and polynomial regression analysis. Modeling showed that the factors amplitude, time, and solvent were found to be significant in the recovery process ( p < 0.005). The maximum amount of compounds was obtained using 90% amplitude for 5 min and ethanol/water mixture (80:20) for extraction to simultaneously obtain phenolic and terpenoid compounds. This system obtained the highest amount of monoterpenoid and sesquiterpenoid compounds from the essential oil of M. spicata (64.93% vs. 84.55%). Thus, with an efficient and eco-friendly method, it was possible to optimize the extraction of compounds in M. spicata as a starting point for the use of its byproducts.

Abstract	Fundamento: una de las enfermedades más frecuentes en pacientes con COVID-19 es la hipertensión. También es la que se presenta en más pacientes con complicaciones graves y su posterior fallecimiento. Es además la patología crónica que más se muestra en pacientes ingresados en centros de aislamiento por contactos de casos positivos a la COVID-19. Objetivo: caracterizar a los pacientes contactos de casos positivos de COVID-19 con hipertensión ingresados en uno de los centros de aislamiento de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Cienfuegos entre enero y abril del 2021. Métodos: se realizó un estudio de tipo descriptivo, transversal y prospectivo. El universo estuvo conformado por 275 pacientes, todos mayores de 18 años, con sospecha de COVID-19 ingresados con diagnóstico de hipertensión durante el período comprendido entre enero y abril de 2021, en uno de los centros de aislamiento de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de la provincia Cienfuegos. Las variables estudiadas fueron: edad, sexo, color de la piel, procedencia, tiempo de evolución de la hipertensión, patologías asociadas y comportamiento de las cifras de tensión arterial durante el ingreso. Los resultados se presentan en frecuencias absolutas y relativas, a través de tablas y gráficos estadísticos, empleando medias, medianas y porcentajes. Resultados: predominaron los mayores de 60 años y del sexo femenino, aquellos que presentaron más de 10 años de evolución de la hipertensión arterial y con diabetes mellitus como patología asociada. Durante la estancia en el hospital un menor número de hipertensos presentó cifras elevadas de tensión arterial. Conclusiones: continúa siendo la hipertensión la comorbilidad más frecuente vinculada a la mortalidad por el virus en los mayores de 60 años y del sexo femenino.

Abstract	Summary: Human migration has shaped the distribution and patterns of infectious diseases transmission throughout history. Migration is one of the contributing factors that has played an important role in the dissemination of drug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum. Central America and Mexico are important transit points of an increasing migrant flow originating from countries where chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum and vivax are prevalent. Surveillance systems, as well as detection and diagnostic capacities in the Central American region, are limited. The additional challenges imposed by the increasingly mobile population in the region are creating the perfect scenario for the emergence or re-emergence of infectious diseases, such as the introduction of chloroquine-resistant malaria. The development and implementation of transborder, collaborative, and ethical migrant health initiatives in the region are urgently needed. The health of migrant people in transit during their migratory route is of our collective interest and responsibility; their exclusion from health programs based on their legal status contradicts international human rights treaties and is inconsistent with ethical global public health practice.

Abstract	El presente documento tiene como objetivo evaluar el enfoque de género en la enseñanza de la geografía en los programas de Licenciatura en Ciencias Sociales y del pregrado en Geografía de cuatro universidades públicas de Colombia: Pedagógica Nacional, Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, del Atlántico y del Valle. Se empleó una metodología cualitativa que contempló la revisión de literatura, los contenidos curriculares y la producción de trabajos de grado en las cuatro universidades de estudio. Los resultados muestran la poca incidencia del enfoque de género en la enseñanza de la geografía en la Educación Superior, en tanto contenidos, literatura de reflexión y como investigación. También, que emerge lentamente el enfoque de género en los trabajos de grado, aunque no son abordados directamente desde la geografía.

Abstract	Actualmente, la enseñanza de la geografía escolar en Colombia ha venido presentando una serie de vacíos que permiten establecer fracturas o dicotomías entre la geografía de carrera, propia del ámbito universitario, con respeto a la geografía escolar y su enseñanza. En ese contexto, algunos académicos han identificado tales falencias asociadas, primero, al tipo de formación profesional que reciben los docentes, segundo, que los encargados de elaborar mallas curriculares consideran poco relevante las temáticas de geografía, y tercero, la débil cohesión entre campos de investigación, la geografía escolar y la geografía académica. En este sentido, este artículo pretende mostrar la disyunción entre la enseñanza de la geografía escolar y la geografía de carrera, a partir de una revisión bibliográfica a nivel nacional validado a través de trabajo en campo realizado con seis docentes encargados del área de ciencias sociales de tres instituciones educativas de la ciudad de Santiago de Cali a quienes se entrevistó con el fin de conocer los conceptos desarrollan en clase, sus metodologías y dificultades a la hora de enseñar geografía. Este trabajo permitió no sólo identificar vacíos, además de establecer posibilidades metodológicas para interrelacionar la geografía universitaria con la geografía escolar.

Abstract	Fundamento: la leucoplasia es la lesión potencialmente maligna más frecuente en las membranas mucosas de la boca y se puede presentar con diferentes grados de displasia epitelial. El estudio histológico de esta lesión unido a la medición de parámetros morfométricos y estereológicos, permite la mejor comprensión de procesos tanto fisiológicos como patológicos. Objetivo: caracterizar los parámetros histomorfométricos de la mucosa bucal en pacientes portadores de leucoplasia bucal según grado de displasia epitelial. Método: se realizó un estudio de serie de casos, con el objeto de determinar indicadores morfométricos, de lesiones leucoplásicas de la mucosa oral en biopsias de pacientes atendidos en los Servicios de Anatomía Patológica y Maxilofacial del Hospital General Universitario Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima, de la provincia Cienfuegos. La muestra se obtuvo por muestreo intencionado, la cual quedó constituida por 30 láminas histológicas (biopsias), distribuidas en tres grupos de diez láminas por cada grado de displasia epitelial. La variable de estudio fue la caracterización morfométrica de la leucoplasia de la mucosa oral con displasia. Se aplicó estadística descriptiva e inferencial. Resultados: predominaron tres parámetros en la clasificación de la displasia: alteración de los clavos interpapilares, hiperplasia y pérdida de la polaridad de las células basales. Se constató presencia de ortoparaqueratosis, epitelios hiperplásicos e infiltrado inflamatorio del corion, en más de la mitad de los casos. Hubo significación estadística en las relaciones que se establecieron entre la altura o profundidad de las papilas y la densidad relativa de células según grado de displasia epitelial, al aplicar la estadística inferencial. Conclusiones: predominaron tres parámetros en la clasificación de la displasia. Se constató presencia de ortoparaqueratosis, epitelios hiperplásicos e infiltrado inflamatorio del corion, en más de la mitad de los casos.

Abstract	Background: when an assessment tool is used, it must conform to rigorous quality standards; defects in its preparation have negative effects on the teaching-learning process. Objective: to evaluate the quality of the ordinary examination of the Cell Tissues and Integumentary System subject through the level of difficulty and the power of the instrument discrimination. Methods: observational, descriptive cross-sectional study in the field of evaluation. The universe was made up of 369 exams that correspond to the total number of students who took part. The study variables were procedure and techniques, frequency of errors, index of difficulty and power of discrimination. For statistical processing, the calculation of indices and percentages was performed. Results: the exam consisted of seven questions, essay-type predominated (57.14%) and within these short-answer questions with a total of three that represents 75%. Question one had the highest number of correct answers while question four had the least number of correct answers. Of the questions, five (71.42%) were highly easy, two (28.57%) moderately easy, one (14.28%) medium difficulty. The exam was rated as highly easy with an index of 0.88. 85.71% of the questions presented an excellent discrimination as well as the exam in general with an index of 0.57. Conclusions: the exam showed an adequate quality based on the coherence that existed between the questions, the level of difficulty and the power of discrimination.
