Abstract The advancement in high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technology has revolutionized the field of biology, including genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics. This technology has become a crucial tool in many areas of research, allowing scientists to generate vast amounts of genetic data at a much faster pace than traditional methods. With this increased speed and scale of data generation, researchers can now address critical questions and gain new insights into the inner workings of living organisms, as well as the underlying causes of various diseases. Although the first HTS technology have been introduced about two decades ago, it can still be challenging for those new to the field to understand and use effectively. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of commonly used HTS technologies these days and their applications in terms of genome sequencing, transcriptome, DNA methylation, DNA-protein interaction, chromatin accessibility, three-dimensional genome organization, and microbiome.

Abstract This study presents a novel approach to assessing the setting time of concrete using the electro-mechanical impedance (EMI) sensing technique. The proposed method involves the continuous monitoring of EMI changes by embedding a piezoelectric (PZT) sensor directly in the concrete. A comparative analysis was conducted with the conventional penetration resistance test, which utilizes mortar samples extracted from the concrete. As a result of the experiment, the time deviation rate of the setting time was more than 10% in the penetration resistance test using the mortar sample extracted from the same concrete, whereas the time deviation rate of the setting time was up to 1.77% in the EMI sensing technique using the same concrete specimen. This highlights the effectiveness and potential of the EMI sensing technique for an improved evaluation of concrete setting time.

Abstract A diagnostic evaluation for cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is required in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who do not respond to steroid or immunomodulatory treatment. However, there is no consensus on an accurate diagnostic method for CMV infection in patients with IBD, and it is difficult to clearly distinguish the exacerbation of ulcerative colitis from CMV colitis. According to several recent studies, the most accurate test method for CMV colitis is quantitative tissue DNA-quantitative PCR, which is recommended as the first-line diagnostic technique along with an immunohistochemistry stain. The benefit of antiviral therapy for CMV infection in patients with IBD is also controversial. Although the definition of viral load is unclear, antiviral therapy can lower the rate of colectomy in CMV infections with a high viral load in patients with IBD. This review presents the latest findings about CMV infections in IBD, based on recently reported studies.

Abstract In this review, we explore the immunomodulatory properties of Korean foods, focusing on ginseng and fermented foods. One notable example is Korean red ginseng, known for its immune system-regulating effects attributed to the active ingredient, ginsenoside. Ginsenoside stimulates immune cells, enhancing immune function and suppressing inflammatory responses. With a long history, Korean red ginseng has demonstrated therapeutic effects against various diseases. Additionally, Korean fermented foods like kimchi, doenjang, chongkukjang, gochujang, vinegar, and jangajji provide diverse nutrients and bioactive substances, contributing to immune system enhancement. Moreover, traditional Korean natural herbs such as
