    Abstract Arteriosclerosis, as the foundation for the development of cardiovascular diseases, is influenced by disturbances in lipid metabolism. Extensive research has consistently shown a correlation between conventional lipid parameters, arteriosclerosis, and cardiovascular diseases. Guidelines highlight the importance of targeting low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, with reducing LDL-C remaining the primary lipid-lowering strategy. However, even when LDL-C is lowered to optimal levels, there is a residual risk of cardiovascular disease. Recent findings have brought attention to remnant cholesterol (RC) as a significant factor contributing to this residual risk. The close association between RC, arteriosclerosis, and cardiovascular diseases presents exciting opportunities for lifestyle interventions and medical treatments to control and lower RC levels, offering new targets for preventing and managing related cardiovascular conditions. Our systematic review sheds light on the importance of considering RC as a valuable biomarker in assessing arteriosclerosis and its potential impact on cardiovascular health. By understanding the link between remnant cholesterol and arteriosclerosis, researchers and healthcare professionals can develop targeted interventions to mitigate cardiovascular risks, thus improving public health outcomes and reducing the economic burden associated with cardiovascular diseases.

    Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical effect of early administration of human immunoglobulin in children with severe hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) and its influence on serum c-reactive protein (CRP), creatine kinase (CK), and creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB). One hundred and forty children with severe HFMD were randomly divided into Group A (n=70) and Group B (n=70) according to the random number table method. Group A was treated with routine treatment. Group B was treated with routine treatment, and an early intravenous injection of human immunoglobulin. Serum CRP, CK, and CK-MB in Group B were lower than those in Group A after treatment (all p <0.001). The total clinical effective rate of Group B was 92.9%, which was higher than that of Group A (80.0%, p=0.026). Early administration of human immunoglobulin may reduce the levels of serum markers CRP, CK, and CK-MB in children with severe HFMD.     Abstract The utilization efficiency of land resources is an essential embodiment of economic development, social development, and ecological development and is a critical core to measure how to maximize the efficiency of land resources under limited conditions. The land is an important content and essential carrier of the research of tourism development level. This paper selects Panel Data from 2010 to 2019 to research the Guangxi regional tourism development. The entropy weight method and stochastic frontier production function (SFA) model were used to evaluate the development level of urban-rural tourism and the utilization efficiency of land resources in Guangxi. This paper uses the Panel Vector Autoregression (PVAR) model to analyze the internal relationship between urban-rural tourism development. The results show that: (1) Guangxi has a good level of tourism development and a high land use efficiency. (2) There is a reciprocal causation relationship between the regional tourism development level and land use efficiency in Guangxi, with significant levels of 0.005 and 0.034 respectively, indicating high credibility. This indicates that there is a mutual promotion and interaction between the two, which rely on and drive each other, promoting the joint sustainability of tourism development and land use efficiency. (3) . The tourism development level is greatly influenced by itself, with impact values all above 0.99. At the same time, land use also has a significant self-impact, with impact values all above 0.87. Their internal optimization system is solid and endogenous impetus is robust, which can drive their development. Establishing an effective strategy for developing and protecting land use is beneficial to promote the long-term effectiveness of sustainable tourism development, enhancing high-quality development of the tourism economy and improving people's living standards and quality.

    Abstract Pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters, revealing changes in the tumor microenvironment, are related to the pathological information of breast cancer. Tracer kinetic models (e.g., Tofts-Kety model) with a nonlinear least square solver are commonly used to estimate PK parameters. However, the method is sensitive to noise in images. To relieve the effects of noise, a deconvolution (DEC) method, which was validated on synthetic concentration-time series, was proposed to accurately calculate PK parameters from breast dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. A time-to-peak-based tumor partitioning method was used to divide the whole tumor into three tumor subregions with different kinetic patterns. Radiomic features were calculated from the tumor subregion and whole tumor-based PK parameter maps. The optimal features determined by the fivefold cross-validation method were used to build random forest classifiers to predict molecular subtypes, Ki-67, and tumor grade. The diagnostic performance evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was compared between the subregion and whole tumor-based PK parameters.     Abstract Intelligent predictive models for autistic symptoms based on neuroimaging datasets were beneficial for the precise intervention of patients with ASD. The goals of this study were twofold: investigating predictive models for autistic symptoms and discovering the brain connectivity patterns for ASD-related behaviors. To achieve these goals, we obtained a cohort of patients with ASD from the ABIDE project. The autistic symptoms were measured using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). The anatomical MRI datasets were preprocessed using the Freesurfer package, resulting in regional morphological features. For each individual, the interregional morphological network was constructed using a novel feature distance-based method. The predictive models for autistic symptoms were built using the support vector regression (SVR) algorithm with feature selection method. The predicted autistic symptoms (i.e., ADOS social score, ADOS behavior) were significantly correlated to the original measures. The most predictive features for ADOS social scores were located in the bilateral fusiform. The most predictive features for ADOS behavior scores were located in the temporal pole and the lingual gyrus. In summary, the autistic symptoms could be predicted using the interregional morphological connectivity and machine learning. The interregional morphological connectivity could be a potential biomarker for autistic symptoms.

    Abstract Tree-based machine learning methods have gained traction in the statistical and data science fields. They have been shown to provide better solutions to various research questions than traditional analysis approaches. To encourage the uptake of tree-based methods in health research, we review the methodological fundamentals of three key tree-based machine learning methods: random forests, extreme gradient boosting and Bayesian additive regression trees. We further conduct a series of case studies to illustrate how these methods can be properly used to solve important health research problems in four domains: variable selection, estimation of causal effects, propensity score weighting and missing data. We exposit that the central idea of using ensemble tree methods for these research questions is accurate prediction via flexible modeling. We applied ensemble trees methods to select important predictors for the presence of postoperative respiratory complication among early stage lung cancer patients with resectable tumors. We then demonstrated how to use these methods to estimate the causal effects of popular surgical approaches on postoperative respiratory complications among lung cancer patients. Using the same data, we further implemented the methods to accurately estimate the inverse probability weights for a propensity score analysis of the comparative effectiveness of the surgical approaches. Finally, we demonstrated how random forests can be used to impute missing data using the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation data set. To conclude, the tree-based methods are a flexible tool and should be properly used for health investigations.

    Abstract With the in-depth investigation of various diseases, angiogenesis has gained increasing attention. Among the contributing factors to angiogenesis research, endothelial epigenetics has emerged as an influential player. Endothelial epigenetic therapy exerts its regulatory effects on endothelial cells by controlling gene expression, RNA, and histone modification within these cells, which subsequently promotes or inhibits angiogenesis. As a result, this therapeutic approach offers potential strategies for disease treatment. The purpose of this review is to outline the pertinent mechanisms of endothelial cell epigenetics, encompassing glycolysis, lactation, amino acid metabolism, non-coding RNA, DNA methylation, histone modification, and their connections to specific diseases and clinical applications. We firmly believe that endothelial cell epigenetics has the potential to become an integral component of precision medicine therapy, unveiling novel therapeutic targets and providing new directions and opportunities for disease treatment.

    Abstract Objective: This study investigated the agreement between objective wavefront-based refraction and subjective refraction in myopic children. It also assessed the impact of cyclopentolate and refraction levels on the agreement.
    Methods: A total of 84 eyes of myopic children aged 6-13 years were included in the analysis. Non-cycloplegic and cycloplegic objective wavefront-based refraction were determined and cycloplegic subjective refraction was performed for each participant.     Results: Linear functions were used to determine the dependency between the central myopic refractive error and the difference between the method of refraction (=bias). The influence of central myopia was not clinically relevant when analysing the agreement between wavefront results with and without cyclopentolate (comparison 1). The bias for wavefront-based minus subjective spherical equivalent refraction (comparison 2) was ≤-0.50 D (95% limits of agreement -0.010 D to -1.00 D) for myopia of -4.55 D and higher when cycloplegia was used (p<0.05). When no cyclopentolate was used for the wavefront-based refraction (comparison 3), the bias of -0.50 D (95% limits of agreement -0.020 D to -0.97 D) was already reached at a myopic error of -2.97 D. Both astigmatic components showed no clinically relevant bias.
    Conclusion: The spherical equivalent, measured without cycloplegic agents, led to more myopic measurements when wavefront-based refraction was used. The observed bias increased with the amount of myopic refractive error for comparisons 2 and 3, which needs to be considered when interpreting wavefront-refraction data.
