Abstract Polarization vectors of light traveling in a coiled optical fiber rotate around its propagating axis even in the absence of birefringence. This rotation was usually explained due to the Pancharatnam-Berry phase of spin-1 photons. Here, we use a purely geometric method to understand this rotation. We show that similar geometric rotations also exist for twisted light carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM). The corresponding geometric phase can be applied in photonic OAM-state-based quantum computation and quantum sensing.

Abstract Developing artificial nanoparticles with peroxidase-like activity have attracted great interests because their catalytic activity is not easy to lose under harsh conditions compared with natural enzymes. In this work, the N-doped carbon dots (CDs) were prepared; it was found that the N-doped CDs showed high peroxidase-like catalytic activity towards the reaction system of hydrogen peroxide:3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). The catalytic mechanism of the N-doped CDs was explored using electron spin resonance spectra, cyclic voltammetry methods and simulation of density functional theory calculations. This work can offer a new feasible method for synthesizing N-doped carbon quantum dots used as artificial peroxidases in biological and environment applications.

Abstract Background: Postoperative complications remain a paramount concern for surgeons and healthcare practitioners.
Aim: To present a comprehensive analysis of the Estimation of Physiologic Ability and Surgical Stress (E-PASS) scoring system's efficacy in predicting postoperative complications following abdominal surgery.
Methods: A systematic search of published studies was conducted, yielding 17 studies with pertinent data. Parameters such as preoperative risk score (PRS), surgical stress score (SSS), comprehensive risk score (CRS), postoperative complications, postoperative mortality, and other clinical data were collected for meta-analysis. Forest plots were employed for continuous and binary variables, with
Results: Patients experiencing complications after abdominal surgery exhibited significantly higher E-PASS scores compared to those without complications [mean difference and 95% confidence interval (CI) of PRS: 0.10 (0.05-0.15); SSS: 0.04 (0.001-0.08); CRS: 0.19 (0.07-0.31)]. Following the exclusion of low-quality studies, results remained valid with no discernible heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis indicated that variations in sample size and age may contribute to heterogeneity in CRS analysis. Binary variable meta-analysis demonstrated a correlation between high CRS and increased postoperative complication rates [odds ratio (OR) (95%CI): 3.01 (1.83-4.95)], with a significant association observed between high CRS and postoperative mortality [OR (95%CI): 15.49 (3.75-64.01)].
Conclusion: In summary, postoperative complications in abdominal surgery, as assessed by the E-PASS scoring system, are consistently linked to elevated PRS, SSS, and CRS scores. High CRS scores emerge as risk factors for heightened morbidity and mortality. This study establishes the accuracy of the E-PASS scoring system in predicting postoperative morbidity and mortality in abdominal surgery, underscoring its potential for widespread adoption in effective risk assessment.

Abstract Disulfidptosis was recently reported to be caused by abnormal disulfide accumulation in cells with high SLC7A11 levels subjected to glucose starvation, suggesting that targeting disulfidptosis was a potential strategy for cancer treatment. We analyzed the relationships between gene expression and mutations and prognoses of patients. In addition, the correlation between gene expression and immune cell infiltration was explored. The potential regulatory mechanisms of these genes were assessed by investigating their related signaling pathways involved in cancer, their expression patterns, and their cellular localization. Most cancer types showed a negative correlation between the gene-set variation analysis (GSVA) scores and infiltration of B cells and neutrophils, and a positive correlation between GSVA scores and infiltration of natural killer T and induced regulatory T cells. Single-cell analysis revealed that

Abstract Objectives: This study explores the clinical application value of medical adhesive in endovascular embolization treatment of peripheral pseudoaneurysm.
Material and methods: This was a retrospective review on 31 patients with peripheral pseudoaneurysm treated with medical adhesive endovascular embolization at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shihezi University from July 2021 to July 2023. Follow-up for 3-6 months was to observe the clinical efficacy and postoperative complications of medical adhesive embolization treatment.
Results: A total of 32 pseudoaneurysms were embolized in 31 patients with peripheral pseudoaneurysms. All pseudoaneurysms originated from visceral arteries. Among them, 29 pseudoaneurysms were embolized with medical adhesive alone, and three pseudoaneurysms were embolized with coil-assisted medical adhesive. After endovascular embolization with medical adhesive, all pseudoaneurysms were successfully embolized. Technical success was 100%. All patients experienced cessation of bleeding after endovascular embolization with medical adhesive, and there were no serious post-operative complications. Clinical success was 100%. During the follow-up period, two patients experienced recurrent bleeding but no pseudoaneurysm recurrence was observed.
Conclusion: Endovascular medical adhesive embolization is a safe and effective method for treating pseudoaneurysm, with high hemostatic efficiency and permanent occlusion of the pseudoaneurysm after embolization, which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.

Abstract As a sensor, glucokinase (GK) controls glucose homeostasis, which progressively declines in patients with diabetes. GK maintains the equilibrium of glucose levels and regulates the homeostatic system set points. Endocrine and hepatic cells can both respond to glucose cooperatively when GK is activated. GK has been under study as a therapeutic target for decades due to the possibility that cellular GK expression and function can be recovered, hence restoring glucose homeostasis in patients with type 2 diabetes. Five therapeutic compounds targeting GK are being investigated globally at the moment. They all have distinctive molecular structures and have been clinically shown to have strong antihyperglycemia effects. The mechanics, classification, and clinical development of GK activators are illustrated in this review. With the recent approval and marketing of the first GK activator (GKA), dorzagliatin, GKA's critical role in treating glucose homeostasis disorder and its long-term benefits in diabetes will eventually become clear.

Abstract This study explores the impact brought by political relation between South Korea and China on economic cooperation between South Korea and Shandong Province of China from regional view. Based on the data over 1998–2017 periods, ADF test, LS methods and Granger Causality Test are employed. The results indicate improved political relation is beneficiary to both the increase of export of Shandong province to South Korea and the import of Shandong province from South Korea. But there is no evidence that the bilateral political relation has effected on the FDI from South Korea to Shandong province. There is no evidence that more close economic connections between two regions are likely to be less influenced by political relation.
