Abstract Overview of global soil and water stress -- Africa -- Asia -- Europe -- Americas -- Oceania -- Europe.

This book focuses on soil and water conservation at global scale. It is a serious environmental problem that will threaten the socio-economic well-being of the majority of global population in future. The book examines the current situation of land degradation in multiple regions of the world and offers alternative approaches to solve the problems through sharing advanced technologies and lessons learned. It provides comprehensive assessment on characteristics, level and effect of degradation in different regions. It’s a highly informative reference both for researchers and graduate students.

Abstract The electron (hole) spin-photon interaction is studied in an asymmetrical InSb (Ge) nanowire quantum dot. The spin-orbit coupling in the quantum dot mediates not only a transverse spin-photon interaction, but also a longitudinal spin-photon interaction due to the asymmetry of the confining potential. Both the transverse and the longitudinal spin-photon interactions have non-monotonic dependence on the spin-orbit coupling. For realistic spin-orbit coupling in the quantum dot, the longitudinal spin-photon interaction is much (at least one order) smaller than the transverse spin-photon interaction. The order of the transverse spin-photon interaction is about 1 nm in terms of length|zeg|, or 0.1 MHz in terms of frequencyeE0|zeg|/hfor a moderate cavity electric field strengthE0=0.4V m

Abstract Objectives: Utilizing Bibliometric Analysis to Evaluate Research Trends in Factors Influencing Respiratory System Diseases Among University Students and Investigate Institutional Collaborations, Research Hotspots, and Emerging Trends.
Methodology: A computer-based retrieval process was employed to access publications from the Web of Science and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases. This retrieval encompassed articles published in both Chinese and English languages, spanning from January 1, 1998, to June 1, 2023, focusing on the impact factors of respiratory system diseases among university students. Subsequently, a visual analysis was conducted using bibliometric software known as CiteSpace, exploring the dimensions of nations, institutions, journals, authors, cited references, and keywords.
Results: A total of 927 scholarly papers pertaining to the determinants of respiratory system diseases among university students were retrieved. Of these, 667 were published in English, while 260 were in Chinese. The volume of publications in this field has exhibited a steady annual increase, with a notable exponential surge observed in 2019 concerning research output on respiratory system diseases among university students. However, there was a subsequent decline in publication volume by the year 2023. Key terms such as "Air pollution," "attitude," "lifestyle," and "infectious laryngotracheitis virus" have emerged as prominent nodes, signifying their critical relevance in shaping the forefront of research on respiratory system diseases among university students. Moreover, "attitude" and "lifestyle" have exhibited a sustained presence over an extended timeline. In recent years, keywords such as "COVID-19" and "health" have gained prominence and maintained persistent scholarly attention. This phenomenon underscores their status as current research hotspots and frontiers in the study of respiratory system diseases among university students. Noteworthy terms include "COVID-19," "coronavirus diseases 19," "exposure," "asthma," and "health."
Conclusion: School food safety and hygiene issues, students' lifestyle and attitudes, along with the impact of "COVID-19," constitute prominent research focal points and trends in the investigation of causative factors of respiratory system diseases among university students. The findings from bibliometric analysis furnish valuable insights for researchers, aiding in the identification of potential collaborators and institutions. Additionally, they facilitate the exploration of key issues within this domain and the pursuit of novel research directions.

Abstract Despite the increasing number of empirical studies that investigated foreign language writing anxiety and its correlates, there is still a lack of quantitative meta-analytic attempt on the effect sizes among these studies. To bridge the gap, this study identified 84 effect sizes from 22 primary studies to meta-analyze the correlations of foreign language writing anxiety and several key high-and low-evidence correlates. For the two high-evidence correlates, moderator analyses were also conducted, which demonstrated that foreign language writing anxiety has a moderate correlation with foreign language writing self-efficacy and foreign language writing performance. The three low-evidence correlates have positively moderate effects of foreign language listening anxiety, foreign language speaking anxiety and foreign language reading anxiety. The significant moderating effects of learners' age and language proficiency were obtained. With respect to the results, pedagogical implications were discussed as well.

Abstract Curved beam bridge is a kind of irregular structure, which has the advantage of adapting to complex terrain, but it is more vulnerable to damage than regular bridge under earthquake. This paper investigates the vulnerability of curved continuous girder bridges under the action of bidirectional earthquake horizontal earthquake, and the difference of vulnerability between side pier and intermediate pier is analyzed. Fragility assessment is performed using an incremental dynamic analysis method subjected to a wide range of as-recorded sequences. A proper engineering demand parameter (EDP) which can result in the most probability of failure at bridges employed in this study is determined. Result indicates that only considering the unidirectional seismic input will underestimate the seismic response and potential damage of the structure, which is not accurate for the seismic performance evaluation of the bridge. Result also shows that the damage probability of the intermediate pier of the curved bridge is higher than that of the side pier, and the more serious the failure, the smaller the difference between the two piers.

Abstract Perianal fistula is a common complication of Crohn disease, and it is a great burden on the life and psychology of patients, but its treatment is still a difficult problem to face. In recent years, progress in the treatment of Crohn disease has progressed rapidly due to the advent of biological agents, but there has been a lack of research on perianal fistula in Crohn disease, and the direction of research has been scattered; therefore, the author reviews the traditional treatment of perianal fistula in Crohn disease in the context of the available literature and discusses emerging and potential therapeutic approaches.

Abstract We show that a strong 'spin'-orbit coupled one-dimensional hole gas is achievable via applying a strong magnetic field to the original two-fold degenerate (spin degeneracy) hole gas confined in a cylindrical Ge nanowire. Both strong longitudinal and strong transverse magnetic fields are feasible to achieve this goal. Based on quasi-degenerate perturbation calculations, we show the induced low-energy subband dispersion of the hole gas can be written asE=ℏ2kz2/(2mh*)+ασzkz+gh*μBBσx/2, a form exactly the same as that of the electron gas in the conduction band.
