    Abstract National and local governments have implemented a large number of policies in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Evaluating the effects of these policies, both on the number of Covid-19 cases as well as on other economic outcomes is a key ingredient for policymakers to be able to determine which policies are most effective as well as the relative costs and benefits of particular policies. In this paper, we consider the relative merits of common identification strategies that exploit variation in the timing of policies across different locations by checking whether the identification strategies are compatible with leading epidemic models in the epidemiology literature. We argue that unconfoundedness type approaches, that condition on the pre-treatment "state" of the pandemic, are likely to be more useful for evaluating policies than difference-in-differences type approaches due to the highly nonlinear spread of cases during a pandemic. For difference-in-differences, we further show that a version of this problem continues to exist even when one is interested in understanding the effect of a policy on other economic outcomes when those outcomes also depend on the number of Covid-19 cases. We propose alternative approaches that are able to circumvent these issues. We apply our proposed approach to study the effect of state level shelter-in-place orders early in the pandemic.

    Abstract Background: Thyroglossal duct cysts (TDC) are common congenital deformities. Most of them are cysts formed by the thyroglossal ducts that do not disappear and degenerate in the early embryonic stage. TDC exists alone and is rarely complicated by other congenital embryonic malformations. Only a few reports of TDC with branchial cleft cysts, thyroid cancer, thyroid hematoma, and epidermoid cysts have been reported. Therefore, we report a patient with TDC and parathyroid cyst (PC), a rare disease that has never been reported.
    Case summary: A 47-year-old woman presented to clinic in April 2021 with a neck tumor which she had noticed 5 d earlier. We perfected the relevant examinations, such as ultrasound and computed tomography, and resected the tumor. After surgical treatment, the pathology revealed a cervical thyroglossal duct cyst and a left lobe parathyroid cyst. The patient was followed up for 1 year without significant recurrence.
    Conclusion: We report a patient with a simultaneous TDC and a PC to explore the correlation between the two congenital anomalies.

    Abstract Background: Occult thyroid papillary carcinoma (OTPC) is typically characterized by initial presentation with cervical lymph node metastasis and can be detected through ultrasound. However, the initial and sole manifestation was a submandibular solid-cystic mass. High-frequency ultrasound, enhanced multislice computed tomography (CT) scan, and thyroid function tests revealed no abnormalities, which is relatively uncommon.
    Case summary: A 24-year-old Chinese female, who studied at a university in Shandong Province, presented to the clinic in June 2019 with a right submandibular mass that she had noticed 2 mo earlier. Clinical examination revealed a 2-cm, nontender, movable solid-cystic mass in the submandibular region, with no palpable thyroid mass observed. Ultrasonography revealed a 2.0 cm × 1.1 cm solid-cystic mass in the right submandibular region, and the thyroid gland showed no abnormalities. CT scan and 131I whole body follow-up scan showed that there were no abnormalities in the thyroid. However, cytology and pathology showed papillary tumor cell clusters, consistent with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Thus, we performed total thyroidectomy and right neck lymph node dissection. The pathology revealed the thyroid was detected as classical thyroid micropapillary carcinoma, and lymph nodes of levels VI central and levels II, III, IV, V on the right side showed no tumor metastasis. The patient was followed up for 2 years without significant recurrence.
    Conclusion: The presentation of a submandibular solid-cystic mass as the primary and solitary indication of OTPC is relatively uncommon. Fine needle aspiration is advised for evaluating neck masses.

    Abstract Point-of-care (POC) detection is getting more and more attention in many fields due to its accuracy and on-site test property. The CRISPR/Cas12a system is endowed with excellent sensitivity, target identification specificity, and signal amplification ability in biosensing because of its unique trans-cleavage ability. As a result, a lot of research has been made to develop CRISPR/Cas12a-based biosensors. In this review, we focused on signal readout strategies and summarized recent sensitivity-improving strategies in fluorescence, colorimetric, and electrochemical signaling. Then we introduced novel portability-improving strategies based on lateral flow assays (LFAs), microfluidic chips, simplified instruments, and one-pot design. In the end, we also provide our outlook for the future development of CRISPR/Cas12a biosensors.

    Abstract In environmentally sensitive areas, especially the arid and semi-arid regions, the greening stability process and its influencing factors can directly affect the sustainable development of the ecological environment. In this study, multi-source remote sensing data such as land use/cover data, MODIS NDVI, and soil moisture, methods such as stability index, vegetation quantitative remote sensing, and Geodetector were employed to analyze the sustainability of the greening process in the Mu Us Sandy in 2000-2020, which were viewed from three aspects: changes in stability of land use types and function, soil moisture change and influencing factors on greening stability. The results showed that, (1) From the stability of land use types, continuous stable ecological land accounted for more than 50%, showing that decreased from northwest toward southeast. (2) From the functional stability, NDVI showed a fluctuated growth (0.035/a), with an increasing distribution pattern from northwest to southeast. Additionally, Vegetation changes were unstable and concentrated in the western part of the study area (OtogBanner and Otog Front Banner), while the eastern part was stable, in which vegetation improvement took the main position. Moreover, mobile dunes almost disappeared, and semi-fixed dunes decreased and gradually shrank to the west of the sandy area, while fixed dunes soared and were concentrated in the middle of the sandy land. (3) From the soil moisture change, soil moisture at different underground depths showed an overall increasing trend, but the deep soil moisture was higher than the shallow, and spatial distribution varied greatly. (4) From the influencing factors, natural factors significantly influence greening stability, among which precipitation had a particularly profound impact, and interactions with other natural and social factors were higher explanatory. The paper aims to explore whether the ecological environment is developing in a good and orderly direction in the Mu Us Sandy Land, and the potential factors that cause its changes, to provide a theoretical basis for scientific governance in the Mu Us Sandy Land and other arid and semi-arid areas in the future.

    Abstract The neural network method is a type of machine learning that has made significant advances over the past few years in a variety of fields, particularly text, speech, images, videos, etc. In areas where data is unstructured, traditional machine learning has not been able to surpass the 'glass ceiling'; therefore, researchers have turned to neural networks as auxiliary tools to achieve significant breakthroughs or develop new research methods. An array of computational chemistry challenges can be addressed using neural networks, including virtual screening, quantitative structure-activity relationships, protein structure prediction, materials design, quantum chemistry, and property prediction, among others. This paper proposes a strategy for predicting the chemical properties of fruits by using graph neural networks, and it aims to provide some guidance to researchers and streamline the identification process.

    Abstract The COVID-19 outbreak has dramatically impacted the economy, particularly consumption behaviors. Studies on how consumption responses to COVID-19 can be a powerful aid for urban consumption recovery. In this paper, based on a high-frequency consumption dataset from January 6, 2020, to April 28, 2020 covering 18 sectors and dataset from the corresponding lunar period in 2021, we look at how COVID-19 changed how people spent their money by looking at patterns of recession and recovery during the pandemic. Specifically, we first explore the recession-recovery pattern of national consumption and the effects of various policies and quantify it using regression methods. Then, recession-recovery patterns across cities are widely studied. We also reveal how consumption structures change during a pandemic and the relationship between patterns of change in citizens' consumption and the socioeconomic characteristics of cities. And the specific empirical analysis is provided through panel regression models. In general, national consumption represented a Vshaped pattern during the pandemic, experiencing a dramatic decline and a rapid rebound. Consumption is significantly inhibited by lockdown, while it is stimulated positively but gradually by easing policies. Consumption patterns at the city level are associated with socioeconomic characteristics. Cities with high-income groups experience a more significant decline, and cities with a high share of the secondary sector have a higher recovery rate in consumption. The consumption structure redistributes but does not fundamentally change. During the recession and early recovery phase, consumption related to basic living saw a significant rise, whereas leisure-related consumption dropped dramatically and recovered slowly. Our study can assist policymakers in implementing diversified market provisions and targeted lockdown policy adjustments for consumption recovery in cities with different socioeconomic backgrounds.

    Abstract Background: Postoperative low back pain (LBP) following total hip arthroplasty (THA) is classified as secondary hip-spine syndrome. The purpose of this study was to explore the correlations between cup orientation of THA and postoperative LBP in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).
    Methods: A retrospective cohort study included 364 ONFH patients who underwent bilateral THA between January 2011 and December 2020. Among them, 53 patients (14.6%) experienced postoperative LBP at the end of follow-up and were designated as pain group (PG). A control group (CG) consisting of 106 patients with similar age, sex, and body mass index (BMI) to those in the PG was selected. Postoperative LBP in the PG was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS). Demographic data, clinical information, and radiographic criteria were evaluated as potential predictors of LBP.
    Results: Patients in PG (mean age, 47.3 years [range, 27 to 75 years]; 42 [79%] male) had a mean VAS score of 4.6 (range, 1 to 9) compared with 0 for the patients in CG (mean age, 47.6 years [range, 19 to 77 years]; 84 [79%] male). There were no significant differences in clinical data between the two groups (p > 0.05). Preoperative radiographic variables also showed no significant differences between the PG and CG (p > 0.05). However, the postoperative inclination, anteversion, and standing ante-inclination (AI) were significantly lower in the PG compared to the CG, whereas the sitting and standing sacral slope (SS) were significantly higher (p < 0.05). Moreover, the variations in standing AI, standing and sitting pelvic tilt (PT) were significantly lower in the PG compared to the CG, while the variations in standing and sitting SS and lumbar lordosis (LL) were significantly higher (p < 0.05). The variation in standing AI in the PG showed a significantly correlation with the variation of standing SS, standing PT, and LL (p < 0.05).
    Conclusion: Postoperative LBP in ONFH patients after bilateral THA is significantly associated with the intraoperative cup orientation. The variation in standing AI is correlated with the variations in standing SS, standing PT, and LL, potentially contributing to the development of postoperative LBP.
