    Abstract Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of non-apoptotic cell death, is distinguished by its dependence on iron-triggered lipid peroxidation and accumulation of iron. It has been linked to various disorders, including the development of tumours. Interestingly, ferroptosis appears to exhibit a dual role in the context of tumour growth. This article provides a thorough exploration of the inherent ambivalence within ferroptosis, encompassing both its facilitation and inhibition of tumorous proliferation. It examines potential therapeutic targets associated with ferroptosis, the susceptibility of cancerous cells to ferroptosis, strategies to enhance the efficacy of existing cancer treatments, the interaction between ferroptosis and the immune response to tumours, and the fundamental mechanisms governing ferroptosis-induced tumour progression. A comprehensive understanding of how ferroptosis contributes to tumour biology and the strategic management of its dual nature are crucial for maximizing its therapeutic potential.

    Abstract Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation of "Jiaji"(EX-B2) on motor function, histomorphology, and expression of NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) and N-terminal domain of gasdermin D (GSDMD-N) in the spinal cord tissue of rats with spinal cord injury (SCI), so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of SCI.
    Methods: Forty eight female SD rats were randomly divided into sham surgery (sham), SCI model (model), EA, and NLRP3 agonist (monosodium urate, MSU) combined with Jiaji EA (MSU+EA) groups, with 12 rats in each group which were further divided into 3 d and 7 d subgroups, with 6 rats at each time point. Two EA groups received EA stimulation of EX-B2 with a frequency of 100 Hz, electrical current of 1-2 mA for 30 min, once a day for 3 or 7 days. After 5 min, 6 h, and 24 h of modeling, rats of the MSU+EA group received intraperitoneal injection of MSU (200 μg/kg, 200 μg/mL) . The motor function was evaluated using Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) scale, the morphological structure of rat spinal cord tissue was observed by H.E. staining. The expression of pyroptosis related factors NLRP3, cleaved Caspase-1 and GSDMD-N of the spinal cord was observed by using immunohistochemistry and Western blot separately, the expression and localization of Iba-1 and GSDMD-N in the spinal cord tissue were observed using immunofluorescence double staining method.
    Results: Compared with the sham group, the BBB scores after modeling and on day 3 and 7 were decreased (
    Conclusions: EA of EX-B2 can improve the motor function of SCI rats, which may be related to its functions in inhibiting pyroptosis of microglia mediated by NLRP3/Caspase-1 signaling pathway.

    Abstract Objectives: This study aimed to isolate a phage capable of lysing carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) and to analyze its biological characteristics and whole genome sequence.
    Methods: The phage was isolated and purified from the sewage. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed to observe the bacteriophage's morphology. Phenotypic characterization of the bacteriophages were determined. The genomic information was analyzed. Evolutionary relationships were established through comparative genomics, proteomics, and phylogenetic analysis.
    Results: The isolation of a virulent phage, named Klebsiella phage vB_KpnM_KpVB3, was notable for forming 6-7 mm transparent circular zones, each surrounded by a distinct halo. The phage had a head diameter of approximately 30 nm and a tail length of about 20 nm, being identified as a member of the Myoviridae family and the Caudovirales order. The optimal multiplicity of infection (MOI) was 0.00001, with an incubation period of 20 minutes and a lysis period of 60 minutes, and the number of released phages after lysis was 133±35 PFU/cell. The phage was relatively stable at temperatures ranging from 10 to 40°C and at pH values ranging from 3 to 11. Its lytic efficiency against CRKP was 30.30%. It has been shown to be able to destroy the biofilm of host bacteria. The bacteriophage genome consists of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) with a total length of 48,394 base pairs, a GC content of 48.99%, and 78 open reading frames (ORFs).
    Conclusion: The study resulted in the isolation vB_KpnM_KpVB3, a phage demonstrating potential therapeutic efficacy against infections caused by CRKP.

    Abstract Background: Residents' adoption of preventive behaviours proved beneficial in preventing the large-scale transmission of the virus during the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak. It is critical to investigate how social media triggers residents' preventive behaviour decisions during the COVID-19 outbreak.
    Methods: This paper selected online shopping as a specific preventive behaviour for empirical investigation. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted through the Sojump website from 1 to 15 March 2020, and a total of 1,289 valid questionnaires were collected from China. This paper uses multiple regression analysis to investigate the heterogeneous impacts of different information sources on residents' online shopping willingness and online shopping behaviour and the heterogeneous impacts of different information content in social media on the transformation of residents' online shopping willingness and online shopping behaviour.
    Results: The findings indicate that both official-media and self-media positively promote residents' online shopping willingness and behaviour, with official-media having a stronger promotional effect than self-media. Furthermore, official-media and self-media can collaboratively promote residents' online shopping willingness and online shopping behaviour. The ease-of-use and usefulness of information significantly promoted the transformation of residents' online shopping willingness.
    Conclusions: This study analyses the heterogeneous impacts of social media on residents' preventive behaviours from the perspectives of information source differentiation and information content differentiation, which enriches related studies and provides feasible paths for promoting residents' preventive behaviours.

    Abstract Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of applied forces generated by a rim screw on the optical performance of mounted myopia lenses. The residual refractive error and retinal image quality of the corrected eyes were also investigated.
    Methods: For 120 lenses, internal lens stress was measured using a newly designed digital strain viewer (colmascope). Sixty myopic adults (120 eyes) were recruited. The effects of internal lens stress on residual refraction and retinal image quality were evaluated using OPD Scan III. The results were compared between loose and tight mounting and between the right and left eyes.
    Results: Significant differences were observed among nine lens zones in both the right and left lenses, regardless of the mounting state (P < 0.001). The differences were mainly derived from the five vertically arranged zones (P < 0.05). Significant differences in internal lens stress were observed between the right and left lenses (P < 0.05). No significant differences in central residual refractive error and retinal image quality of the corrected eyes were found between the loose- and tight-mounted lenses.
    Conclusion: The applied forces generated by the rim screw changed the peripheral optical performance of the mounted myopia lenses but exerted only negligible impacts on the central residual refractive error and visual image quality.

    Abstract In recent years, the understanding of the mechanisms of acupuncture in the treatment of neurological disorders has deepened, and considerable progress has been made in basic and clinical research on acupuncture, but the relationship between acupuncture treatment mechanisms and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has not yet been elucidated. A wealth of evidence has shown that acupuncture exhibits a dual regulatory function of activating or inhibiting different BDNF pathways. This review focuses on recent research advances on the effect of acupuncture on BDNF and downstream signaling pathways in several neurological disorders. Firstly, the signaling pathways of BDNF and its function in regulating plasticity are outlined. Furthermore, this review discusses explicitly the regulation of BDNF by acupuncture in several nervous system diseases, including neuropathic pain, Parkinson's disease, cerebral ischemia, depression, spinal cord injury, and other diseases. The underlying mechanisms of BDNF regulation by acupuncture are also discussed. This review aims to improve the theoretical system of the mechanism of acupuncture action through further elucidation of the mechanism of acupuncture modulation of BDNF in the treatment of neurological diseases and to provide evidence to support the wide application of acupuncture in clinical practice.

    Abstract Recently, the remarkable advances in thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials have attracted much attention due to their 100% exciton utilization efficiency in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Although the commercialization of TADF materials is at an early stage, they exhibit enormous potential for next-generation OLEDs due to the comparable electroluminescence performance to metal of their phosphorescent complex counterparts, but without the presence of precious metal elements. This review summarizes the different types of TADF small molecules with various photophysical properties and the state-of-the-art molecular design strategies. Furthermore, the device engineering is discussed, and emerging optoelectronic applications, such as organic light-emitting electrochemical cells, organic lasing, and organic scintillators, are introduced. It is anticipated that this review can clarify the design of efficient TADF emitters and point out the direction of future development.

    Abstract Background: This study aimed to evaluate spatial changes in dental arches resulting from premature loss of first primary molars and assess the necessity of a space maintainer.
    Methods: We searched the electronic databases PubMed, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials, and EMBASE. Split-mouth studies involving unilateral premature loss of a primary first molar were included. Quality assessment of selected studies made use of the ROBINS-I tool. Mean space differences were calculated for the D + E and D spaces, arch width, arch length, arch perimeter.
    Results: Of the 329 studies considered, 11 split-mouth studies were selected, including 246 cases in the maxilla and 217 in the mandible from 477 individuals aged 5-10 years. Over the medium-term follow-up period (6-24 months), space loss was 0.65 mm in the maxillary D + E (MD 0.65, 95% CI 0.15-1.16, P = 0.01), 1.24 mm in the mandibular D + E (MD 1.24, 95% CI 0.60-1.89, P < 0.01), and 1.47 mm in the mandibular D (MD 1.47, 95% CI 0.66-2.28, P < 0.01). There was no significant change in arch width, length, or arch perimeter between the initial and follow-up examinations (P > 0.05).
    Conclusions: After premature loss of first primary molars, space can be lost, but the amount of loss would not affect arch width, length, or arch perimeter over the 6-24 months follow-up period.

    Abstract Inflammatory reaction after spinal cord injury (SCI) is the main obstacle to the recovery of neural function. In the occurrence and development of SCI, the complex regulatory mechanisms are involved in inflammatory reaction, including the activation of inflammatory cells (e.g.macrophages and microglia), and the release of cytokines (e.g. tumor necrosis factor, interleukin and chemokines). Acupuncture-moxibustion is significantly effective in clinical treatment of SCI, and its mechanism is related to adjusting the function of inflammatory cells after SCI, modulating the expression of cytokines and the activation of NLRP3 inflammatory bodies, as well as the expression of high mobility group protein B1 and calcitonin gene related peptide. This article summarizes the research progress of mechanism of inflammatory reaction after SCI and the effects of acupuncture-moxibustion intervention in recent years so that the new ideas can be provided to clarify the pathogenesis of SCI and the effect of acupuncture-moxibustion intervention.
