Abstract Groundwater (GW) is an important source of freshwater in arid and semiarid areas. Some important industrial activities, such as coal mining, also consume GW. There have been few studies evaluating GW quality in the Selian coal mining area of Inner Mongolia. This study aimed to identify the hydrochemical phases and the sources of main ions in the GW of the Selian coal mining area. Water quality analysis was performed on 20 shallow GW samples collected from the study area. Statistical correlation analysis was performed on these water quality data. The quality of irrigation water was evaluated based on water quality indices such as the sodium absorption rate and sodium percentage. The risk of nitrate pollution in the study area to human health was evaluated by GW nitrate content. The results show that the dominant GW chemistry types in the study area are the mixed and Ca–HCO₃ types. Correlation analysis indicates that rock weathering and leaching are the main natural drivers of GW hydrochemistry in this area. The irrigation risk analysis shows that GW in this area can be used for irrigation, although some caution is needed. The human health risk assessment shows that GW nitrate pollution poses more risk to children than to adults by a factor of 1.168. It is recommended that centralized treatment of drinking water is the optimal approach to managing this risk. The results of this study can act as a reference for the rational use of GW and for control of nitrate pollution in this area.

Abstract Objectives: Inflammation plays a vital role in the aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), while serum amyloid A (SAA) has been identified as an inflammatory biomarker. The present study aimed to elucidate the relationship between SAA concentrations and prognosis in aSAH.
Methods: From prospective analyses of patients admitted to our department between March 2016 and August 2022, aSAH patients with complete medical records were evaluated. Meanwhile, the healthy control group consisted of the age and sex matched individuals who came to our hospital for healthy examination between March 2018 and August 2022. SAA level was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit (Invitrogen Corp). The Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) was used to classify patients into good (GOS score of 4 or 5) and poor (GOS score of 1, 2, or 3) outcome.
Results: 456 patients were enrolled in the study, thereinto, 200 (43.86%) patients had a poor prognosis at the 3-months follow-up. Indeed, the SAA of poor outcome group were significantly increased compared to good outcome group and healthy control group [36.44 (32.23-41.00) vs. 28.99 (14.67-34.12) and 5.64 (3.43-7.45),
Conclusions: Elevated level of SAA was associated with poor outcome at 3 months, suggesting that SAA might be a useful inflammatory markers to predict prognosis after aSAH.

Abstract Objectives: Inflammation vitally impacts the progression of depression resulting from intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), while red blood cell distribution width (RDW) marks inflammatory-related diseases. The present study aimed at evaluating how RDW affects depression after ICH.
Methods: From prospective analyses of patients admitted to our department between January 2017 and September 2022, ICH patients with complete medical records were evaluated. The 17-item Hamilton Depression (HAMD-17) scale was used for measuring the depressive symptoms at 3 months after ICH. Diagnosis of post-ICH depression was conducted for patients based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V) criteria.
Results: A total of 438 patients were enrolled in the study, out of which 93 (21.23%) patients had PSD at the 3-month follow-up. Accordingly, patients with depression had higher RDW levels (13.70 [IQR: 13.56-13.89] vs.13.45 [IQR: 12.64-13.75],
Conclusions: Elevated RDW level predicted post-ICH depression at 3 months, confirming RDW as an effective inflammatory marker for predicting depression after ICH.

Abstract Objectives: The primary objective of the present investigation was to meticulously examine the efficacy of high-quality nursing care (HQN) on neurological restoration, amelioration of adverse psychological states, and augmentation of quality of life in geriatric patients diagnosed with acute cerebral infarction (ACI).
Methods: A cohort of 240 patients, afflicted by ACI and admitted to our healthcare institution between February 2020 and March 2023, were incorporated into this longitudinal prospective analysis. Employing a random number table methodology, the patient cohort was bifurcated into a control group (
Results: Post-intervention, the observation group demonstrated superior outcomes compared to the control group, as evidenced by diminished NIHSS and SPBS scores and elevated BI metrics. Moreover, SAS and SDS scores in both groups manifested a decline post-intervention; however, the decrement was statistically more pronounced in the observation group (
Conclusion: The implementation of HQN in the geriatric population afflicted by ACI markedly enhances neurological recuperation, attenuates adverse psychological states, and ameliorates overall quality of life. The intervention is also associated with a diminution in complication rates and an increase in nursing satisfaction, thereby substantiating its clinical utility.

Abstract Objective To identify the relationship between Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor 7 (ARHGEF7) genetic variants and the formation and rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms. Methods Ten variants of the ARHGEF7 were detected in a case-control study which included 121 patients with intracranial aneurysms (including 41 unruptured and 80 ruptured patients) and 155 healthy controls. The relationship between variants and occurrence and rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms was examined by multivariate logistic regression model. Results After adjustment for age, sex, and traditional cardiovascular risk factors, the rs4145274GA genotype was associated with a decreased rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms as compared with rs4145274GG genotype, and odds ratio was 0.24[95% confidence interval (CI):0.09~0.69, P<0.05]. The rs1555751CT genotype was also associated with a decreased rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms as compared with rs1555751CC genotype, and odds ratio was 0.17(95% CI: 0.05~0.63, P<0.05). The combined effect rs4145274 and rs1555751 suggested that the patients with an increased genetic risk score had a lower rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms, and the odds ratio was 0.14(95% CI: 0.04~0.55, P<0.05). Conclusions The study indicates that ARHGEF7 genetic variants potentially serve as potential genetic markers for the risk evaluation of ruptured intracranial aneurysms.

Abstract Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory disease; pristimerin exhibits strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. We explored whether pristimerin protected against cognitive dysfunction and neuroinflammation in C57BL/6 J mice with sepsis-induced brain injuries. Sepsis was induced by intraperitoneal administration of 2 mg/kg lipopolysaccharide (LPS). C57BL/6 J mice were separated into four groups (n = 10 per group): positive control, negative control, pristimerin 10 mg/kg and pristimerin 100 mg/kg. Pristimerin was administered orally for 28 days prior to LPS administration and for six days thereafter. Behavioural changes were assessed one day after LPS administration using the Morris water maze and via neurological dysfunction scoring. Molecular pathogenesis was explored by measurement of malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, reactive oxygen species and inflammatory cytokine levels in mouse brains. Neuronal apoptosis was evaluated using the TUNEL assay. The levels of p-Akt/Akt, p-PI3K/PI3K, mTOR, Bax, Bcl-2 and caspase-3 proteins were determined via Western blotting. Pristimerin improved cognitive function and reduces the neurological score to 1.15 ± 0.03. Pristimerin significantly reduced all cytokine levels: TNF-α by 18 ± 0.6 pg/mg, IL-1β by 43 ± 1.3 pg/mg and IL-6 by 34 ± 1.12 pg/mg. There was significant (p < 0.01) improvement in PI3K/Akt signalling and histopathological changes in the brain tissue of sepsis induced brain injured rats. Pristimerin ameliorated neuronal injury by regulating PI3K/Akt signalling in mice with sepsis-induced brain injuries. Pristimerin may merit further development for clinical applications.

Abstract Objectives: Inflammation plays an important role in the development of depression after stroke. Monocyte-to-HDL Cholesterol Ratio (MHR) recently emerged as a novel comprehensive inflammatory indicator in recent years. This study aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between MHR levels and post-stroke depression (PSD).
Methods: From February 2019 to September 2021, patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) were recruited within 7 days post-stroke from the two centers and blood samples were collected after admission. The 17-item Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-17) was used to measure depressive symptoms at 3 months after stroke. Patients were given the DSM-V criteria for diagnosis of PSD.
Results: Of the 411 enrolled patients, 92 (22.38%) patients were diagnosed with PSD at 3-months follow-up. The results also showed significantly higher level of MHR in patients with depression [0.81 (IQR 0.67-0.87) vs. 0.61 (IQR 0.44-0.82),
Conclusion: Elevated level of MHR was associated with PSD at 3 months, suggesting that MHR might be a useful Inflammatory markers to predict depression after stroke.

Abstract Ecological concrete could reduce the environment impacts of the tremendous construction of infrastructures due to its favorability to plant growth. Nonetheless, the alkalinity of the ecological concrete is usually too high when using ordinary Portland cement (OPC). To solve this problem, the magnesium ammonium phosphate cement (MPC) was used to prepare a novel porous ecological concrete instead of OPC. The pH value and compressive strength of MPC were analyzed and the pore structure was evaluated. The chemical composition and morphology were investigated by an X-ray diffraction test and scanning electron microscope observation. In addition, the void ratio, compressive strength and planting-growing characteristic of MPC-based porous ecological concrete were also studied. The pH value of the MPC suspension ranged from 6.8 to 8.5, which was much lower than that of OPC. The pH value of MPC gradually increased with the increment of phosphorus/magnesium molar ratio (P/M) and the compressive strength reached a maximum value of 49.2 MPa when the P/M value was 1/4. Fly ash (FA) and ground blast furnace slag (GBFS) could improve the pore structure and compressive strength; however, the pH value was slightly increased. As the paste-to-aggregate ratio increased, the void ratio of concrete gradually decreased, while the compressive strength gradually increased. The meadow grass was planted in the MPC-based ecological concrete, and the seeds germinated in one week and showed a better growth status than those planted in the OPC-based ecological concrete.
