    Abstract Since the outbreak of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in December 2019, the Chinese government has implemented effective epidemic prevention measures. To provide useful information for governments to manage this public health crisis, we conducted an online survey among Chinese general population from February 24 to 28, 2020. In this study, we examined the impact of epidemic information and rumors on public's worries and attitude toward prevention measures during the outbreak of COVID-19. A total of 853 valid questionnaires (641 women, 75.1%) were collected from 24 provincial regions in China. Most respondents' ages ranged from 18 to 60 (833 participants, 97.66%). A mediation model was built to analyze the influence of epidemic information and rumors on worries and attitude. The results showed that the amount of epidemic information positively predicted public's worries, which in turn predicted a supportive attitude toward the prevention measures. Worries partially mediated the relationship between the amount of epidemic information and the supportive attitude. The amount of rumors negatively predicted the supportive attitude. The results of this study implied the importance of timely and credible information providing to evoke a certain level of worry and promote public cooperation, and the necessary attention to refute and resist rumors for effective risk communication in a public health crisis.

    Abstract Piezo-type mechanosensitive ion channel component 1 (Piezo1) is a mechanosensitive ion channel protein that is evolutionarily conserved and multifunctional. It plays an important role as an oncogenic mediator in several malignant tumors. It mediates the proliferation, migration, and invasion of a variety of cancer cells through various mechanisms. Multiple studies have shown that the expression of Piezo1 is related to the clinical characteristics of senescence and cancer patients, making Piezo1 useful as a new biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of a variety of human cancers. Manipulating the expression or function of Piezo1 is a potential therapeutic strategy for different diseases. Piezo1 may be a promising tumor biomarker and therapeutic target. Here we review the biological function, mechanism of action, and potential clinical significance of Piezo1 in oncogenesis and progression.

    Abstract Seven undescribed polyoxygenated ursane-type triterpenoids (vitnegundins A-G), three undescribed triterpenoid saponins (vitnegundins H-J), and 17 known ones were isolated from an EtOH extract of the aerial parts of Vitex negundo L. The structures of the undescribed compounds were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of vitnegundins A, B, and E were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Vitnegundins B-D are pentacyclic triterpenoids possessing rare cis-fused C/D rings and vitnegundins C-H represent undescribed ursane-type triterpenoids with 12,19-epoxy moiety.     Abstract Autophagy is a crucial and conserved homeostatic mechanism for early defense against viral infections. Recent studies indicate that coronaviruses (CoVs) have evolved various strategies to evade the autophagy-lysosome pathway. In this minireview, we describe the source of double-membrane vesicles during CoV infection, which creates a microenvironment that promotes viral RNA replication and virion synthesis and protects the viral genome from detection by the host. Firstly, CoVs hijack autophagy initiation through non-structural proteins and open-reading frames, leading to the use of non-nucleated phagophores and omegasomes for autophagy-derived double-membrane vesicles. Contrastingly, membrane rearrangement by hijacking ER-associated degradation machinery to form ER-derived double-membrane vesicles independent from the typical autophagy process is another important routine for the production of double-membrane vesicles. Furthermore, we summarize the molecular mechanisms by which CoV non-structural proteins and open-reading frames are used to intercept autophagic flux and thereby evade host clearance and innate immunity. A comprehensive understanding of the above mechanisms may contribute to developing novel therapies and clinical drugs against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the future.

    Abstract Spinal cord injury (SCI) is the most common disabling spinal injury, a complex pathologic process that can eventually lead to severe neurological dysfunction. The Wnt/mTOR signaling pathway is a pervasive signaling cascade that regulates a wide range of physiological processes during embryonic development, from stem cell pluripotency to cell fate. Numerous studies have reported that Wnt/mTOR signaling pathway plays an important role in neural development, synaptogenesis, neuron growth, differentiation and survival after the central nervous system (CNS) is damaged. Wnt/mTOR also plays an important role in regulating various pathophysiological processes after spinal cord injury (SCI). After SCI, Wnt/mTOR signal regulates the physiological and pathological processes of neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation, neuronal axon regeneration, neuroinflammation and pain through multiple pathways. Due to the characteristics of the Wnt signal in SCI make it a potential therapeutic target of SCI. In this paper, the characteristics of Wnt/mTOR signal, the role of Wnt/mTOR pathway on SCI and related mechanisms are reviewed, and some unsolved problems are discussed. It is hoped to provide reference value for the research field of the role of Wnt/mTOR pathway in SCI, and provide a theoretical basis for biological therapy of SCI.

    Abstract As an important mechanism to maintain cellular homeostasis, autophagy exerts critical functions via degrading misfolded proteins and damaged organelles. Recent years, alternative autophagy, a new type of autophagy has been revealed, which shares similar morphology with canonical autophagy but is independent of Atg5/Atg7. Investigations on different diseases showed the pivotal role of alternative autophagy during their physio-pathological processes, including heart diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, oncogenesis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and bacterial infection. However, the studies are limited and the precise roles and mechanisms of alternative autophagy are far from clear. It is necessary to review current research on alternative autophagy and get some hint in order to provide new insight for further study. Video Abstract.

    Abstract Cadmium (Cd) and polyethylene (PE) seriously contaminate the aquatic environment and threaten human health. Many studies have reported the toxic effects of Cd and PE on plants, whereas few have reported the combined contamination of these two pollutants. In this study, duckweed (Lemma minor) was used as an indicator to explore the effect of PE microplastics (PE-MPs) at concentrations of 10, 50, 100, 200, and 500 mg/L on tolerance to 1 mg/L Cd. The results showed that different concentrations of PE-MPs inhibited the growth rate and chlorophyll content of duckweed to different degrees, both of which were minimal at 50 mg/L PE-MPs, 0.11 g/d, and 0.32 mg/g, respectively. The highest Cd enrichment (7.77 mg/kg) and bioaccumulation factors (94.22) of duckweed were detected when Cd was co-exposed with 50 mg/L of PE-MPs. Catalase and peroxidase activity first decreased and then increased with increasing PE-MPs concentrations, showing "hormesis effects", with minimum values of 11.47 U/g and 196.00 U/g, respectively. With increasing concentrations of PE-MPs, the effect on superoxide dismutase activity increased and then declined, peaking at 162.05 U/g, and displaying an "inverted V" trend. The amount of malondialdehyde rose with different PE-MPs concentrations. This research lay a foundation for using duckweed to purify water contaminated with MPs and heavy metals.
