Abstract This paper evaluates the impact of local and external economic uncertainty shocks on China’s exchange market pressure from a time-varying perspective. We first construct a simple behavioral model to provide some economic background for our empirical analysis. The model identifies two channels, namely market sentiment and market demand, through which economic uncertainty has a time-varying impact on exchange market pressure. Notably, we calculate a new exchange market pressure index for China by considering China’s practice. Using the economic policy uncertainty index as a proxy for economic uncertainty and our new estimates of China’s exchange market pressure, we employ a novel TVP-VAR model controlling for over-parameterization to a monthly dataset from January 2001 to October 2020 to analyze the impact of China’s and U.S. economic policy uncertainties on China’s exchange market pressure. Our empirical findings robustly show that an upsurge in U.S. EPU is followed by appreciation pressure of the RMB against the dollar, while a hike in China’s EPU triggers devaluation pressure on the RMB. In addition, the impact of economic policy uncertainty has considerable time variation in magnitude, especially after mid-2011, showing a trade-off mechanism between the effects of domestic and foreign economic uncertainties on China’s exchange market pressure. Moreover, we attribute the time-varying features to the changes in China’s dependence on the U.S. and in the exchange rate flexibility. Finally, China should further improve the exchange rate flexibility, reduce its dependence on the U.S. and develop a more diversified currency basket in the exchange rate formation mechanism. Abstract This paper presents new empirical evidence concerning the time-varying responses of China’s macroeconomy to U.S. economic uncertainty shocks through a novel TVP-VAR model. The results robustly reveal that a rise in U.S. economic uncertainty would exert sizable, persistent, and significant detrimental effects on China’s gross domestic product (GDP), price level, and short-term interest rate during the period when common shocks take place, such as the global financial crisis around 2008, whereas small and transient effects in the tranquil times. Therefore, China should diversify its international linkages and gradually reduce the dependence on the United States into a certain range to shield the domestic economy, as well as improve the independence of monetary policy. Furthermore, to withstand unfavorable external shocks, China should be prudent on greater opening-up and carry out more intensive intervention when common shocks hit the world economy. Finally, investors should be alert to the potential detrimental impact of U.S. economic uncertainty on Chinese assets’ fundamentals.

Abstract HTP test in psychometrics is a widely studied and applied psychological assessment technique. HTP test is a kind of projection test, which refers to the free expression of painting itself and its creativity. Therefore, the form of group psychological counselling is widely used in mental health education. Compared with traditional neural networks, deep learning networks have deeper and more network layers and can learn more complex processing functions. In this stage, image recognition technology can be used as an assistant of human vision. People can quickly get the information in the picture through retrieval. For example, you can take a picture of an object that is difficult to describe and quickly search the content related to it. Convolutional neural network, which is widely used in the image classification task of computer vision, can automatically complete feature learning on the data without manual feature extraction. Compared with the traditional test, the test can reflect the painting characteristics of different groups. After quantitative scoring, it has good reliability and validity. It has high application value in psychological evaluation, especially in the diagnosis of mental diseases. This paper focuses on the subjectivity of HTP evaluation. Convolutional neural network is a mature technology in deep learning. The traditional HTP assessment process relies on the experience of researchers to extract painting features and classification.

Abstract This dataset presents a narrative record of all announced federal government spending changes in Canada between 1949q1 and 2012q1. We use the federal government's budget documents, mostly the budget speech, to document announced spending measures. Other budget documents that we use include the Economic Statements, Financial Statements, Mini Budgets, Interim Budgets, and Economic and Budget Updates. We document the motivation behind each announced measure. Based on these motivations, we classify spending changes as exogenous or endogenous. Exogenous changes are those that are not motivated by contemporaneous economic conditions of the country. Endogenous changes are those that are taken in response to current economic conditions. We also document the size of a change, whether it was intended to be temporary or permanent, the duration of the measure, and the size of the measure that was to be implemented in the same year as it is announced. This is the first dataset for any country that comprehensively presents all spending changes undertaken by a government.

Abstract The constitutive model of rock materials can describe the mechanical behavior of rocks in creep tests. Also, it is one of the important means to study the deformation and strength characteristics of rocks in complex stress environments. This paper is based on the analysis of the porosity variation characteristics of the internal structure under the coupling effect of rock hydro-mechanical properties. The concept of the hydro-mechanical properties variable is proposed, and the relationship between the coupling variable, damage and plastic deformation is established. By introducing the coupling variable, instantaneous damage variable and time-dependent damage variable into the yield surface equation, as well as the plastic potential energy equation and the stiffness matrix of the elastic–plastic creep constitutive equation, a hydro-mechanical properties creep damage coupling model was established to simulate the creep mechanical properties of rock under coupling. Based on the triaxial creep test results of granite gneiss, the model parameters are determined. By comparing the test results with numerical results, it was revealed that the model can better describe the creep mechanical properties of rocks under the coupling effect of hydromechanical properties.

Abstract With the rapid development of China’s economy, urbanization is gradually accelerating, but the income gap between urban and rural areas is growing, which may constrain economic development. To test the impact of urbanization on the urban–rural income gap, this paper uses panel data of 31 provinces (cities/autonomous regions) in China from 2007 to 2018, and combines ArcGIS technology to construct Spatial Dubin Model. This paper finds that the increase in urbanization level in China can significantly reduce the urban–rural income gap. The mediating effects model further shows that the increased level of urbanization in China promotes the flow of factors, which helps the flow of capital and advanced technology into the countryside and increases productivity. It also promotes the transfer of a large amount of surplus labor to the tertiary sector, adjusting the industrial structure and increasing the income of peasants moving to the city. In addition, the development of urbanization in China can lead to the construction of public education, improving the conditions and quality of education and teaching, and increasing the possibilities for farmers to earn high incomes. As a result, the urban–rural income gap in China has been narrowed. The findings of this paper are useful for understanding the underlying mechanisms in the level of urbanization and the urban–rural income gap in China. It provides policy insights for accelerating China’s new urbanization process and promoting the coordinated development of China’s urban and rural regions.

Abstract K-means clustering is a simple and efficient, fast in convergence and easy to implement statistical analysis method. However, the traditional [K-means] clustering algorithm is sensitive to the selection of initial clustering centers and easy to fall into a local optimum, and at the same time, most unsupervised feature selection algorithms are easy to ignore the relationship between features. To solve the above issues, this paper proposes a feature selection algorithm combining artificial bee colony with [K-means] clustering. Firstly, to make the similarity of samples in the same cluster high and the similarity of the samples in different clusters low, a new fitness function is constructed based on the clustering degree within the cluster and the dispersion degree between the clusters, which can better reflect the characteristics of each sample, and then a new probability expression of the honey source being selected is constructed. Secondly, the weight which decreases gradually with the increase of the number of iterations is designed, and the honey source location update expression that makes the search range of the bee colony dynamically indent is proposed. Thirdly, to make up for the limitation of the traditional Euclidean distance which only considers the cumulative difference between vectors when calculating the distance, a weighted Euclidean distance expression which simultaneously considers both the different influence degrees of the samples and the similarity of the samples is constructed. Finally, the standard deviation and distance correlation coefficient are introduced to define feature discrimination and feature representativeness, and the product of them is used to measure the importance of features. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm accelerates the convergence speed of artificial bee colony algorithm and improves the clustering effect of [K-means] algorithm, and also effectively improves the classification effect of feature selection.

Abstract Background: Intra-abdominal abscesses are a frequent manifestations of melioidosis whereas pancreas is barely affected by this condition. Herein, by delving into the clinical manifestations, diagnostic processes, and the ultimate clinical outcome, we report a case of an unusual presentation of pancreatic melioidosis in a Chinese patient, aiming to shed light on a diagnosis that is not commonly associated with the pancreas.
Case presentation: The patient, a 32-year-old male farmer, suffered from persistent burning pain in his upper abdomen, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fever and other symptoms, presented to the clinic. His body temperature spiked to 38.5 °C without apparent reason for this fever. A thorough examination, including the blood culture and the imaging examination, led to a diagnosis of pancreatic melioidosis. The patient was promptly treated with intravenous meropenem and ceftazidime. As a consequence, his symptoms eased and discharged in stable condition. The patient continued his treatment with oral trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (co-trimoxazole) for three months to control the infection. Following 6 months of regular follow-up, the patient fully recovered.
Conclusions: In tropical regions such as Hainan, it is crucial to consider atypical infection like

Abstract Background: Cystatin C, a low-molecular-weight protein, belongs to cysteine protease inhibitors produced primarily by nucleated cells. Its serum concentration, independent of sex, age, or muscle mass, is a good predictor of renal dysfunction in older adults. This study evaluated the association between all-cause mortality and preoperative cystatin C levels in hip fractures. Materials and methods: Data describing the demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients were gathered specifically from older individuals who had suffered hip fractures. The study used linear and non-linear multivariate Cox regression models to investigate the association between preoperative cystatin C levels and mortality. The analyses were conducted using the R and EmpowerStats software. Results: In total, two thousand three hundred and ninety-four patients were included in this study. A total of 790 patients (33 %) died of all causes. The mean follow-up was 37.62 months. The preoperative cystatin C was 0.91 ± 0.41 mg/L. Linear multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed a significant association between preoperative cystatin C level and death, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 2.19 (95 % confidence interval [CI]: 1.72–2.79, P < 0.0001). Nevertheless, the correlation between the variables was inconsistent. A cystatin C concentration of 1.62 mg/L marked a significant change in the non-linear relationship. A preoperative cystatin C level below 1.62 mg/L was found to be significantly linked with an increased risk of mortality (HR = 2.60, 95 % CI: 1.92–3.52, P < 0.0001). The mortality reached its highest point when the preoperative cystatin C level was greater than 1.62 mg/L. After that, the mortality risk did not increase further (HR = 1.54, 95 % CI: 0.98–2.42, P = 0.0588). The non-linear relationship remained consistent in the propensity score-matching sensitive analysis. Conclusions: The study found a non-linear relationship between preoperative cystatin C levels and mortality in geriatric hip fractures. This suggests that ...

Abstract Abstract Fintech has gained immense importance as a catalyst for economic growth, trade enhancement, and global prosperity. This study aims to comprehensively assess the influence and potential of Fintech in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. The research objective is to evaluate the levels of development in financial activities, technology infrastructure, and Fintech-enabling regulations across the region. A robust decision-making framework combining numerical and linguistic assessments is applied, utilizing the Distance-based CRiteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation (DCRITIC) method and the Fuzzy extension of Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution (F-EDAS approach). The findings reveal varying levels of development among ASEAN countries about Fintech. Governments and policymakers are urged to prioritize the creation of a supportive environment for Fintech innovation to spur economic growth, attract investments, and foster digital transformation. The study is limited because the weights of the key regulations have not been investigated.
