Abstract In this article, theoretically, it is shown that spurious local minima are common for deep fully connected networks and average-pooling convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with piecewise linear activations and datasets that cannot be fit by linear models. Motivating examples are given to explain why spurious local minima exist: each output neuron of deep fully connected networks and CNNs with piecewise linear activations produces a continuous piecewise linear (CPWL) function, and different pieces of the CPWL output can optimally fit disjoint groups of data samples when minimizing the empirical risk. Fitting data samples with different CPWL functions usually results in different levels of empirical risk, leading to the prevalence of spurious local minima. The results are proved in general settings with arbitrary continuous loss functions and general piecewise linear activations. The main proof technique is to represent a CPWL function as maximization over minimization of linear pieces. Deep networks with piecewise linear activations are then constructed to produce these linear pieces and implement the maximization over minimization operation.

Abstract In recent years, national fitness has become a hot topic. How to take healthy and effective exercise on a daily basis is an urgent problem to be tackled. Web-based platforms are accessible through cellphones, which include fitness records, teaching videos, and result feedback. These three aspects assist users in completing their initial evaluation, which further contributes to health improvement. Additionally, enhancement in the well-being of individuals is carried through video recommendations. In order to proceed fitness related videos suggestions, this platform uses a collaborative filtering algorithm, which is based on videos recommendation. To receive suggestions, this methodology acquires five queries to be completely addressed at the preliminary stage. This initial assessment is commonly known as a cold-start evaluation strategy. Furthermore, popularity punishment measures are incorporated to enhance productivity. Finally, this platform offers an online-based approach for the inspection, assessment of the national fitness, and orientation for the future improvement of the fitness database.

Abstract Ent-kaurane diterpenes are a large group of natural products, with more than 1,000 compounds since their discovery. Due to their excellent biological activities and complex polycyclic structures, these compounds have attracted organic synthesis chemists around the world to be devoted to achieve their total synthesis. At present, the isolated C-20-oxygenated ent-kaurane diterpenes are the most abundant of these natural products, reaching more than 350 in number. However, only total syntheses of 3,20-epoxy, 7,20-epoxy and 19,20-lactone ent-kaurane diterpenes have been reported. In this review, we elaborate the synthesis of these three types of C-20 oxygenated ent-kaurane natural products, discuss these synthetic strategies in detail, and provide good guidance and reference for the synthesis of other C-20 oxygenated compounds.

Abstract Hypertension can cause hearing loss, but there is no clear definition of the mechanism(s) involved. The study aimed to explore the role of vascular endothelial dysfunction in hypertension with hearing loss. Patients with hypertension were divided into two groups based on hearing loss. Pure tone audiometry (PTA) and endothelial function testing were performed. A total of 216 (432 ears) hypertensive patients were divided into hypertension with hearing loss group (n = 104) and hypertension without hearing loss group (n = 112). The vascular endothelial biomarkers, ET-1 (endothelin-1) and vWF (von Willebrand factor) were significantly higher (
