Abstract In this paper, the thermoelectric properties of p-type and n-type GeSe are studied systematically by using first principles and Boltzmann transport theory. The calculation includes electronic structure, electron relaxation time, lattice thermal conductivity and thermoelectric transport properties. The results show that GeSe is an indirect band gap semiconductor with band gap 1.34 eV. Though p-type GeSe has a high density of states near Fermi level, the electronic conductivity is relative low because there is no carrier transport pathway along the

Abstract Higher quality lamb carcasses with more muscle and less fat are crucial for consumer preference and healthy eating. This study evaluated bile acids' functional roles and mechanisms on fat deposition in lambs. Forty-five lambs were arranged into three groups with control (CON) and two types of bile acid treatments (BA1, mainly hyocholic acid; BA2, mainly hyodeoxycholic acid, ruminally protected). The BA1 treatment did not affect the dry matter intake, body weight, and the average daily gain but significantly decreased the body fat (assessed as GR value) compared to the CON (7.92 vs. 5.55 mm). The BA2 decreased tail fat weight compared to CON (1.99 vs. 1.51 kg). Both BA1 and BA2 significantly decreased the tail fat ratio (110 vs. 89.8 vs. 78.6 g/kg of carcass weight). The BA1 significantly decreased the concentration of meat omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to the CON. No significant differences were found between the three groups' blood antioxidant capacity and immune characteristics. The RNA-sequencing analysis identified 46 differentially expressed genes between CON and BA2. Several pathways, including ferroptosis and fatty acid biosynthesis and core genes such as HSPA8, HIFIA, HEXB, ACSL6, and MAP1LC3B were changed mainly or significantly correlated with the tail fat weight or proportion phenotypes, can be selected as targeted gene markers related to regulating the tail fat. This study provided new insight into bile acids' roles and revealed their comprehensive mechanism in regulating fat distribution in ruminants and will facilitate improvements of lamb meat production with decreased subcutaneous and tail fat deposition.

Abstract Interface engineering of catalysts is critical to regulate their electrocatalytic activities in lithium–oxygen (Li-O₂) batteries. However, the relationship between active sites of catalysts and their catalytic efficiency toward lithium peroxide (Li₂O₂) has not been clarified. Herein, unsaturated coordination active sites in CoIn₂S₄ are created by embedding Ru into S vacancies (Ru-V-VIS) to enhance the catalytic activity of oxygen electrodes in Li-O₂ batteries. The formation of the unsaturated coordination Co–Ru center is conducive to the deposition and decomposition of Li₂O₂ during oxygen reduction/evolution reactions. Furthermore, the highly polarized asymmetrical electron donation from Ru and Co to O₂ and Li₂O₂ can boost the catalytic efficiency, thus reducing the overpotential and ameliorating energy efficiency. As expected, the Li-O₂ battery with the Ru-V-CIS electrode achieves a high Coulombic efficiency (98.73%), large specific capacity (9170 mA h g–¹), and extended cycling life (200 cycles) with a low charge overpotential (0.96 V). This work provides a strategy of constructing an unsaturated coordination center for enhancing the intrinsic activity of catalysts to develop high-performance Li-O₂ batteries.

Abstract The paper presents the microstructure and mechanical property of pure aluminum (Al) fabricated by multi-pass caliber rolling at room temperature. The finite element modeling (FEM) simulation was performed to explore the changes in rolling force, effective stress and strain, and temperature under various rolling passes. As the number of rolling passes increased, the overall temperature, effective stress, and strain gradually increased, while the maximum rolling force decreased. In addition, due to the dynamic recrystallization (DRX), the average grain size reduced from 1 mm to 14 µm with the increase in rolling passes. The dislocation density increased and it gradually evolved into the high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs). Moreover, the initial cubic texture rotated to the brass component and finally changed to a mixture of Cube and Brass types. The highest tensile yield strength (TYS), ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation (El.) of caliber rolled pure Al (116 MPa, 135 MPa, and 17%, respectively) can be achieved after 13 rolling passes, which mainly attributed to grain refinement.

Abstract Vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin, is the basic substance required to maintain healthy vision and the main physiological functions of cattle. The results from previous studies regarding the effect of vitamin A on intramuscular fat varied. This meta-analysis aimed to generate a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between vitamin A and intramuscular fat content and to provide potential clues for future research and commercial practice. Electronic databases such as MEDLINE and Ovid were systematically searched, and studies investigating the relationship between vitamin A and intramuscular fat content were included. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) in intramuscular fat percentage and intramuscular fat score, with their respective 95% confidence intervals (CIs), were calculated. The heterogeneity and publication bias were evaluated. A total of 152 articles were identified through searches of databases. Seven articles were confirmed for inclusion in this meta-analysis. The SMD of IMF percentage derived from the analysis was-0.78 (-2.68, 1.12) (Q = 246.84,

Abstract The inferior reversibility of the formation/decomposition of the lithium peroxide (Li₂O₂) and its insolubility and insulation features result in poor energy efficiency and limited durability of state-of-the-art Li–O₂ batteries. Herein, we elaborately designed sisal-like CoSe₂ nanowires enriched with Se vacancies (VSₑ-CoSe₂) anchored on a scaffold of magnetron-sputtered N-doped carbon cloth (N-CC) to address the above challenges. The synergistic coupling of vacancy regulation with interfacial interaction can be used to tune the ability to adsorb active oxygen and intermediate species and enhance the interfacial electron transfer during oxygen redox reactions. Experimental results demonstrate that the VSₑ-CoSe₂@N-CC-based Li–O₂ battery demonstrates a substantially decreased overpotential (∼0.56 V) and extraordinary durability (over 955 h). This work indicates that the synergistic coupling of vacancy modulation and interface interaction is a promising strategy for effectively enhancing the comprehensive performance of Li–O₂ batteries, which provide prospective insights into the exploration of next-generation highly efficient metal–air batteries.

Abstract Grain shape is an important agronomic character of rice, which affects the appearance, processing, and the edible quality. Screening and identifying more new genes associated with grain shape is beneficial to further understanding the genetic basis of grain shape and provides more gene resources for genetic breeding. This study has a natural population containing 623 indica rice cultivars. Genome-wide association studies/GWAS of several traits related to grain shape (grain length/GL, grain width/GW, grain length to width ratio/GLWR, grain circumferences/GC, and grain size/grain area/GS) were conducted by combining phenotypic data from four environments and the second-generation resequencing data, which have identified 39 important Quantitative trait locus/QTLs. We analyzed the 39 QTLs using three methods: gene-based association analysis, haplotype analysis, and functional annotation and identified three cloned genes (
