    Abstract Background: Myocardial infarction is a high-risk condition prevalent among the elderly population, often leading to adverse clinical manifestations such as reduced cardiopulmonary function, anxiety, and depression post-surgery. Consequently, cardiac rehabilitation holds immense importance in mitigating these complications.
    Aim: To evaluate the effect of individualized cardiac rehabilitation on blood pressure variability (BPV) and baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) in elderly patients with myocardial infarction.
    Methods: A cohort of 74 elderly patients diagnosed with myocardial infarction and admitted to our hospital between January 2021 and January 2022 were subjected to random selection. Subsequently, all patients were divided into two groups, namely the research group (
    Results: Of 24 h diastolic BPV, 24 h systolic BPV, carbon dioxide ventilation equivalent slope of the research group were lower than those of the control group at T1 and T2, BRS, peak heart rate and systolic blood pressure product, 1 min heart rate recovery were higher than those of the control group, and the incidence of adverse events in the research group was lower than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (
    Conclusion: In this study, we found that after individualized cardiac rehabilitation in elderly patients with myocardial infarction, BPV and BRS can be effectively improved, cardiac function is significantly enhanced, and a better prognosis is obtained.

    Abstract Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) controls cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and other biological processes that have an essential role in eye diseases. However, it seems that previous studies have generated conflicting conclusions about the effect of CaMKII on cell apoptosis. In this review, we explore the positive and potentially deleterious effects of CaMKII on eye cell apoptosis. We can safely conclude that the early elevation of CaMKII could be viewed as a promoter of cell apoptosis. Overexpression of CaMKII by transfection or pretreatment with drugs helped combat cell apoptosis.

    Abstract Background: Accurate preoperative staging of gastric cancer (GC), a common malignant tumor worldwide, is critical for appropriate treatment plans and prognosis. Dynamic three-phase enhanced computed tomography (CT) scanning for preoperative staging of GC has limitations in evaluating tumor angiogenesis. CD34, a marker on vascular endothelial cell surfaces, is promising in evaluating tumor angiogenesis. We explored the value of their combination for preoperative staging of GC to improve the efficacy and prognosis of patients with GC.
    Aim: To explore the evaluation value of CD34 expression + dynamic three-phase enhanced CT scanning in preoperative staging of GC.
    Methods: Medical records of 106 patients with GC treated at the First People's Hospital of Lianyungang between February 2021 and January 2023 were retrospectively studied. All patients underwent three-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced CT scanning before surgery, and CD34 was detected in gastroscopic biopsy specimens. Using surgical and pathological results as the gold standard, the diagnostic results of three-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced CT scanning at different T and N stages were analyzed, and the expression of CD34-marked microvessel density (MVD) at different T and N stages was determined. The specificity and sensitivity of three-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced CT and CD34 in T and N staging were calculated; those of the combined diagnosis of the two were evaluated in parallel. Independent factors affecting lymph node metastasis were analyzed using multiple logistic regression.
    Results: The accuracy of three-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced CT scanning in diagnosing stages T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 68.00%, 75.00%, 79.41%, and 73.68%, respectively, and for diagnosing stages N0, N1, N2, and N3 were 75.68%, 74.07%, 85.00%, and 77.27%, respectively. CD34-marked MVD expression increased with increasing T and N stages. Specificity and sensitivity of three-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced CT in T staging were 86.79% and 88.68%; for N staging, 89.06% and 92.86%; for CD34 in T staging, 64.15% and 88.68%; and for CD34 in N staging, 84.38% and 78.57%, respectively. Specificity and sensitivity of joint diagnosis in T staging were 55.68% and 98.72%, and N staging were 75.15% and 98.47%, respectively, with the area under the curve for diagnosis improving accordingly. According to multivariate analysis, a longer tumor diameter, higher pathological T stage, lower differentiation degree, and higher expression of CD34-marked MVD were independent risk factors for lymph node metastasis in patients with GC.
    Conclusion: With high accuracy in preoperatively determining the invasion depth and lymph node metastasis of GC, CD34 expression and three-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced CT can provide a reliable basis for surgical resection.

    Abstract Heparin-binding growth factor (HB-EGF) is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) ligand family which has a crucial role in women's health. However, there is a lack of comprehensive review to summarize the significance of HB-EGF. Therefore, this work first described the expression patterns of HB-EGF in the endometrium and ovary of different species and gestational time. Then, the focus was on exploring how it promotes the successful implantation and regulates the process of decidualization and the function of ovarian granulosa cells as an intermediate molecule. Otherwise, we also focused on the clinical and prognostic significance of HB-EGF in female-related cancers (including ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and endometrial cancer) and breast cancer. Lastly, the article also summarizes the current drugs targeting HB-EGF in the treatment of ovarian cancer and breast cancer. Overall, these studies found that the expression of HB-EGF in the endometrium is spatiotemporal and species-specific. And it mediates the dialogue between the blastocyst and endometrium, promoting synchronous development of the blastocyst and endometrium as an intermediate molecule. HB-EGF may serve as a potentially valuable prognostic clinical indicator in tumors. And the specific inhibitor of HB-EGF (CRM197) has a certain anti-tumor ability, which can exert synergistic anti-tumor effects with conventional chemotherapy drugs. However, it also suggests that more research is needed in the future to elucidate its specific mechanisms and to accommodate clinical studies with a larger sample size to clarify its clinical value.

    Abstract The aim of this study is to verify the impact of Leptin in blood pressure (BP) regulation and Leptin-resistance in metabolic/neurogenic hypertension through baroreflex afferents and dysregulation. Artery BP/heart rate (HR) were measured while nodose (NG) microinjection of Leptin, membrane depolarization/inward current were obtained by whole-cell patch from NG neurons isolated from adult female rats. Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) tested with PE/SNP, distribution/expression of Leptin/receptors in the NG/nucleus tractus solitary (NTS) examined using immumostaining and qRT-PCR, and serum concentrations of Leptin/NE measured by ELISA were observed in control and high fructose-drinking induced hypertension (HTN-HFD) rats. The results showed that BP was significantly/dose-dependently reduced by Leptin NG microinjection likely through direct excitation of female-specific subpopulation of Ah-type neurons showing a potent membrane depolarization/inward currents. Sex-specific distribution/expression of OB-Ra/OB-Rb in the NG were detected with estrogen-dependent manner, similar observations were also confirmed in the NTS. As expected, BRS was dramatically decreased in the presence of PE/SNP in both male and female rats except for the female with PE at given concentrations. Additionally, serum concentration of Leptin was elevated in HFD-HTN model rats of either sex with more obvious in females. Under hypertensive condition, the mean fluorescent density of OB-R and mRNA expression for OB-Ra/OB-Rb in the NG/NTS were significantly down-regulated. These results have demonstrated that Leptin play a role in dominant parasympathetic drive via baroreflex afferent activation to buffer Leptin-mediated sympathetic activation systemically and Leptin-resistance is an innegligible mechanism for metabolic/neurogenic hypertension through baroreflex afferent dysregulation.

    Abstract BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to determine the components related to sensory properties in soy sauce and to characterize the differences between low‐salt solid‐state fermented soy sauce (LSFSS) and high‐salt diluted‐state fermented soy sauce (HDFSS). The taste and aroma active components of 18 commercially available soy sauces (eight types of LSFSS and 10 types of HDFSS) were characterized. The relationship between these compounds, soy sauce samples, and sensory properties was modeled by partial least squares regression. RESULTS: The analysis showed that the 11 taste‐active components, including glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, threonine, malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, reducing sugar and salt, contributed greatly to the taste of soy sauce. In addition, umami, saltiness and sweetness are the characteristic tastes of HDFSS, whereas sourness and bitterness were the characteristic tastes of LSFSS. At the same time, seven aroma‐active compounds, namely 4‐ethyl‐2‐methoxyphenol, ethanol, 3‐methyl‐1‐butanol, ethyl acetate, 2‐phenethyl alcohol, 3‐methyl thiopropanol and 2‐ethyl‐4‐hydroxy‐5‐methylfuran‐3‐one, played a decisive role in the flavor of soy sauce. In addition, HDFSS presented the aroma attributes of smoky, alcoholic, floral, fruity and caramel‐like, whereas LSFSS mainly presented sour and malty aroma attributes. CONCLUSION: The present study reveals new insight into the relationship between the chemical composition and sensory characteristics of soy sauce, which is of great significance for developing an objective measurement system and providing a theoretical basis to improve the sensory quality of soy sauce. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.
