Abstract "Open access edition: DOI 10.6069/9780295749013 At first glance, medicine and poison might seem to be opposites. But in China's formative era of pharmacy (200-800 CE), poisons were strategically employed as healing agents to cure everything from abdominal pain to epidemic disease. Healing with Poisons explores the ways physicians, religious figures, court officials, and laypersons used toxic substances to both relieve acute illnesses and enhance life. It illustrates how the Chinese concept of du-a word carrying a core meaning of "potency"-led practitioners to devise a variety of methods to transform dangerous poisons into effective medicines. Recounting scandals and controversies involving poisons from the Era of Division to the Tang, historian Yan Liu considers how the concept of du was central to how the people of medieval China perceived both their bodies and the body politic. He also examines the wide range of toxic minerals, plants, and animal products used in classical Chinese pharmacy, including everything from the herb aconite to the popular recreational drug Five-Stone Powder. By recovering alternative modes of understanding wellness and the body's interaction with foreign substances, this study cautions against arbitrary classifications and exemplifies the importance of paying attention to the technical, political, and cultural conditions in which substances become truly meaningful. Healing with Poisons is freely available in an open access edition thanks to TOME (Toward an Open Monograph Ecosystem) and the generous support of the University of Buffalo"--

Abstract Power sector is the largest industrial emitter in China, and renewable energy development would contribute to the large-scale construction of power grid. Mitigating carbon emissions of power gird construction is extremely important. So, the objective of this study is to understand embodied carbon emissions of power grid construction under carbon neutrality target, and then put forward to policy implications of carbon mitigation. This study, based on top-down and bottom-up integrated assessment models (IAMs), investigates carbon emissions of power grid construction towards 2060, through identifying the key driving factors and forecasting their embodied emissions in line with China's carbon neutrality target. Our results show that, the increase of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) dominates the increase in embodied carbon emissions of power grid construction, while energy efficiency and energy structure improvement contribute to the decrease. Large scale renewable energy development promotes the power grid construction. In 2060, total embodied carbon emissions would increase to 1105.7 Million tons (Mt) under the carbon neutrality target. However, the cost and key carbon-neutral technologies should be re-considered to ensure the sustainable electricity supply. The results could provide data reference and decision-making of designing power construction and mitigating carbon emissions of power sector in future.

Abstract Burns are a main cause of accidental injuries among children in China. Because of the unique wound repair capacity and demand for growth in pediatric patients, the management of pediatric deep partial-thickness burn wounds involves a broader range of treatment options and controversy. We assembled experts from relevant fields in China to reach a consensus on the key points of thermal-induced pediatric deep partial-thickness burn-wound management, including definition and diagnosis, surgical treatments, nonsurgical treatment, choice of wound dressings, growth factor applications, infectious wound treatment, scar prevention and treatment. The committee members hope that the Expert Consensus will provide help and guiding recommendations for the treatment of pediatric deep partial-thickness burn wounds.

Abstract Development in educational technology affected teaching at higher education institutes to a great extent. As a result, schools and universities have welcomed Electronic Learning (e-learning), most notably during the pandemic when educational institutes were closed. Different quantitative and qualitative researchers have mainly studied the quality of e-learning and its negative and positive consequences for societies, teachers, and students. However, matches and mismatches between university teachers' and students' perceptions of e-learning problems and advantages have not been well documented. Through a phenomenology study, this study delved into lived experiences of 25 teachers and 23 undergraduate students who were selected through theoretical sampling at Quzhou University in China. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the informants. The thematic analysis of the interviews revealed some matches and some mismatches between the teachers' and students' perceptions of e-learning problems and advantages. Teachers, students, and other stakeholders can use findings to reduce the negative consequences and enhance the quality of e-learning.

Abstract Background: Despite the rapid growth of cardio-oncology as a subspecialty, cancer patients are still underserved from a cardiovascular perspective. A new care model is needed to integrate comprehensive cardio-oncology care with community-based facilities to improve care access, quality, and equity. Here, we present a cardio-oncology service line model for large, multi-hospital health systems to address this need.
Methods: An academic cardio-oncology program was first established using a multidisciplinary approach. Five infrastructure elements for a service line model were created, including strategic accountability, standardized care, dedicated resources, patient experience/education, and branding/identity. We then utilized these elements across our healthcare system to establish a quality-controlled and centrally governed cardio-oncology service line structure. Protocols were created to standardize care and ensure consistency and quality, including referral workflow, imaging, cardiotoxicity surveillance, and clinical management. An IRB-approved cardio-oncology registry was established for outcome tracking.
Results: The standardized cardio-oncology services were expanded to eight hospitals and ten outpatient care centers, including rural outreach offices, resulting in increased patient access and improved clinical quality measures. The service area expanded 17-fold, and an estimated rural population of 204,133 gained access to care. Cardio-oncology office visits increased by approximately 600% three years after implementation of the service line model.
Conclusions: A cardio-oncology service line with standardized care is a feasible and effective care model to improve cardio-oncology care quality, patient access, and health equity in large, multi-hospital health systems. It can be used in conjunction with academic cardio-oncology programs to improve the overall cardio-oncology healthcare efficacy in the US.

Abstract The continuous development of science and technology has led to the gradual digitization and intelligence of campus construction. To apply facial recognition technology to construct smart libraries in higher education, this study optimizes traditional facial recognition algorithm models. Firstly, a smart management system for university libraries is designed with facial recognition as the core, and secondly, the traditional FaceNet network is optimized. Combined with MobileNet, Attention mechanism, Receptive field module and Mish activation function, the improved multitask face recognition convolutional neural network is built and used in the construction of university smart library. The performance verification of the constructed model shows that the feature matching error value of the model in a stable state is only 0.04. The recognition accuracy in the dataset is as high as 99.05%, with a recognition error as low as 0.51%. The facial recognition model used in university smart libraries can achieve 97.6% teacher satisfaction and 96.8% student satisfaction. In summary, the facial recognition model constructed by this paper has good recognition performance and can provide effective technical support for the construction of smart libraries.

Abstract Rationale: Previous studies have shown that acetaminophen has the potential to induce hepatotoxicity in patients, rendering it a prominent drug implicated in the development of acute hepatic failure. However, there is currently no available literature reporting the impact of ibuprofen-sustained release capsules on liver failure.
Patient concerns: A 65-year-old man was presented with a 4-day history of tea-colored urine with oil avoidance, jaundiced skin, and anorexia, and impaired liver function. One ibuprofen-sustained release capsule was taken on the day before the onset of the disease due to "headache."
Diagnoses: A diagnosis of this patient was made of liver failure due to taking ibuprofen-sustained release capsules.
Interventions: Initially, the patient discontinued the use of hepatotoxic drugs in order to prevent further exposure. Subsequently, the patient underwent a standard therapeutic regimen, which encompassed the administration of hepatoprotective agents, nutritional support drugs, correction of acid-base imbalances, and electrolyte abnormalities, as well as other relevant treatments.
Outcomes: After 9 days of hepatoprotective and nutritional supplement therapy, the patient saw notable improvement in symptoms, reporting an absence of discomfort, subsided skin jaundice, clear urine, and liver function tests returning to a near normal range. The patient was granted permission to be discharged from the hospital while being prescribed drugs. After 2 weeks of follow-up, the patient reported an absence of discomfort and exhibited normal results in the liver function test.
Conclusions: Liver failure caused by ibuprofen-sustained release capsules has not been reported. It is worth noting that conventional treatments such as suspending offending agents, and administration of hepatoprotective agents and nutritional support drugs have proven to be successful.
Lesson: There is currently no known peer-reviewed literature indicating that the administration of ibuprofen-sustained release capsules leads to liver failure. When patients taking ibuprofen-sustained release capsules encounter symptoms such as anorexia, skin jaundice, lack of appetite, and nausea, it is recommended that they undertake a cardiac and liver function tests. In the event that ibuprofen-sustained release capsules induce liver injury, it is imperative to administer timely and immediate medical intervention.
