Abstract Background: The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months after childbirth. However, breastfeeding is influenced by organizational, social, geopolitical, and cultural factors, which are understudied in the migrant population. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and practices of refugee, migrant, and asylum-seeking mothers living in Lisbon.
Methods: A sociodemographic questionnaire and a Breastfeeding Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs, and Practices questionnaire were used to gather information regarding baseline breastfeeding knowledge, attitudes and beliefs, and practices towards breastfeeding.
Results: Only 40% of the mothers received antenatal counselling regarding the benefits and management of breastfeeding. Of the 20 responses, 10 (50%) mothers were found to have fair breastfeeding knowledge, 14 (70%) had fair attitudes and beliefs, and 12 (60%) had fair breastfeeding practices. Correlation analysis indicated a positive correlation between mothers' breastfeeding attitudes (r = 0.531, p < 0.05) and their breastfeeding knowledge. There was no statistically significant correlation between the mothers' breastfeeding attitudes, beliefs, and practices.
Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that healthy breastfeeding behaviours can be stimulated by receiving proper counselling from health professionals. Countries must focus on improving breastfeeding practices, as they still fail to do all they can to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding globally. Universal interventions are necessary to improve breastfeeding, regardless of migrant or refugee status.

Abstract To manage pandemics, like COVID-19, leadership can enable health services to weather the storm. Yet there is limited clarity on how leadership manifested and was discussed in the literature during COVID-19. This can have considerable public health implications given the importance of leadership in the health sector. This article addresses this missed opportunity by examining the literature on leadership during a pandemic. Following a systematic search of nine academic databases in May 2021, 1,747 publications were screened. Following this, a lexical analysis of the results section was conducted, sourced from a corpus of publications across myriad journals. The results found a prevalence of references to "leader" as a sole actor, risking the perpetuation of a view that critical decisions emanate from a singular source. Moreover, "leadership" was a concept disconnected from the fray of frontline workers, patients, and teams. This suggests a strong need for more diverse vocabularies and conceptions that reflect the "messiness" of leadership as it takes shape in relation to the challenges and uncertainties of COVID-19. There is a considerable opportunity to advance scholarship on leadership via further empirical studies that help to clarify different approaches to lead teams and organizations during a pandemic.

Abstract The present work focuses on the further development of a new family of geopolymers obtained by the alkaline activation of a binder. The aim is to find a viable alternative to concrete that can be used in civil construction. Regarding the influence of the curing temperature on this type of mixture, the recommendations in the existing literature are different for fly ash, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, and metakaolin-based geopolymers. While for fly ash and slag, increasing the curing temperature above 60 °C is reported to be advantageous, for metakaolin geopolymers, the opposite is reported. In this context, the objective of this work is to evaluate the mechanical strength of several metakaolin-based geopolymer specimens subjected to different curing temperatures (10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 °C). Furthermore, several stress-strain diagrams are also shown. Based on the results, we recommend using curing temperatures below 30 °C in order to avoid reducing the strength of metakaolin-based geopolymers. Curing at 50 °C, relative to room temperature, results in a reduction of more than 35% in flexural strength and a reduction of more than 60% in compressive strength. Regarding the behavior of the geopolymers, it was found that the strain, at the ultimate stress, is about 2 to 2.5 times the strain of an equivalent cement mortar.

Abstract Processing-In-Memory (PIM) is a novel approach that augments existing DRAM memory chips with lightweight logic. By allowing to offload computations to the PIM system, this architecture allows for circumventing the data-bottleneck problem that affects many modern workloads. This work tackles the problem of how to build efficient software implementations of the Transactional Memory (TM) abstraction by introducing PIM-STM, a library that provides a range of diverse TM implementations for UPMEM, the first commercial PIM system. Via an extensive study we assess the efficiency of alternative choices in the design space of TM algorithms on this emerging architecture. We further quantify the impact of using different memory tiers of the UPMEM system (having different trade-offs for what concerns latency vs capacity) to store the metadata used by different TM implementations. Finally, we assess the gains achievable in terms of performance and memory efficiency when using PIM-STM to accelerate TM applications originally conceived for conventional CPU-based systems.

Abstract This study aimed to assess the prevalence of abuse against Portuguese older people after an economic crisis and to assess how it has influenced health. A cross-sectional study was carried out including 677 older adults (≥60 years) during 2017. Results show that overall, 23.9% of older people reported being a victim of abuse in the last 12 months. The prevalence of psychological abuse was 19.9%, financial abuse 5.8%, physical abuse 2.5% and sexual abuse 1.9%. Older people who report abuse were more likely to have perceived insufficient income and low social support. The abuse was also significantly associated with poor health status and depressive symptoms. Even in an auspicious period, more than a fifth of older people experiences abuse which is associated with social and health vulnerabilities. These results support that an investment should be made in terms of policies toward an age-friendly environment.
