    Abstract Over the past few decades there have been major advances in computed tomography (CT) to improve the performance of cardiac imaging. Thanks to the improved scanning speed, power boost tubes, and increased-width detectors, the latest CT technology delivers greater coverage, better spatial and temporal resolution, and functional information on cardiac diseases. Focusing on cardiac CT imaging, this book offers case-based information on cardiac diseases, presents the current technical status, and highlights applications, helping readers systematically understand how cardiac CTs are performed and interpreted in clinical practice. Divided into six chapters, it broadly discusses the characteristics of CT imaging and its applications to coronary artery disease (CAD); non-atherosclerotic coronary artery disease; congenital heart disease; cardiac neoplasms; cardiomyopathy and aortic diseases.

    Abstract The extant amphibians have developed uncanny abilities to adapt to their environment. I compared the genes of amphibians to those of other vertebrates to investigate the genetic changes underlying their unique traits, especially salamanders' regeneration and longevity. Using the well-supported Batrachia tree, I found that salamander genomes have undergone accelerated adaptive evolution, especially for development-related genes. The group-based comparison showed that several genes are under positive selection, rapid evolution, and unexpected parallel evolution with traits shared by distantly related species, such as the tail-regenerative lizard and the longer-lived naked mole rat.     Abstract Wireless capsule endoscopy is an important method for diagnosing small bowel diseases, but it will collect thousands of endoscopy images that need to be diagnosed. The analysis of these images requires a huge workload and may cause manual reading errors. This article attempts to use neural networks instead of artificial endoscopic image analysis to assist doctors in diagnosing and treating endoscopic images. First, in image preprocessing, the image is converted from RGB color mode to lab color mode, texture features are extracted for network training, and finally, the accuracy of the algorithm is verified. After inputting the retained endoscopic image verification set into the neural network algorithm, the conclusion is that the accuracy of the neural network model constructed in this study is 97.69%, which can effectively distinguish normal, benign lesions, and malignant tumors. Experimental studies have proved that the neural network algorithm can effectively assist the endoscopist's diagnosis and improve the diagnosis efficiency. This research hopes to provide a reference for the application of neural network algorithms in the field of endoscopic images.

    Abstract Quality control (QC) is an important stage for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies. The methods for fMRI QC vary in different fMRI preprocessing pipelines. The inflating sample size and number of scanning sites for fMRI studies further add to the difficulty and working load of the QC procedure. Therefore, as a constituent part of the Demonstrating Quality Control Procedures in fMRI research topic in Frontiers, we preprocessed a well-organized open-available dataset using DPABI pipelines to illustrate the QC procedure in DPABI. Six categories of DPABI-derived reports were used to eliminate images without adequate quality. After the QC procedure, twelve participants (8.6%) were categorized as excluded and eight participants (5.8%) were categorized as uncertain. More automatic QC tools were needed in the big-data era while visually inspecting images was still indispensable now.

    Abstract Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological condition characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity., accounting for 7% of all female malignant tumors and 20%- 30% of malignant tumors of the female reproductive system. Multiple studies have shown that circular RNA (circRNA) has the potential to become a targeted target and marker for EM. However, the roles of circ_0001495 in EM are still unclear. Our research aims to reveal the molecular mechanism of circ_0001495 in EM. In this study, RT-PCR or western blot were conducted to determine mRNA and protein expression. cell viability, proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis were assessed by CCK-8, EdU, wound healing, transwell, and flow cytometry analyses, respectively. Additionally, the targeting relationship between miR-34c-5p and circ_0001495 or E2F3 was confirmed through dual-luciferase reporter gene assay. We found significant overexpression of circ_0001495 in EM tissues and cells. Knockdown of circ_0001495 inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of ectopic endometrial stromal cells (EESCs) and increased cell apoptosis. Moreover, we found that circ_0001495 regulated E2F3 levels by interacting with miR-34c-5p in EESC. Furthermore, in vitro, miR-34c-5p inhibition or E2F3 overexpression could attenuate the effect of circ_0001495 silencing on EM progression. In addition, the vivo experiment demonstrated that inhibition of circ_0001495 could repress the development of endometriosis by regulating the miR-34c-5p/E2F3 axis. In conclusion, our study suggested that circ_0001495 promoted EM progression in vitro and in vivo through the miR-34c-5p/E2F3 axis, which might be a potential therapeutic target for EM.

    Abstract Current management of anesthesia-associated complications falls short in terms of both efficacy and safety. Nanomaterials with versatile properties and unique nano-bio interactions hold substantial promise as therapeutics for addressing these complications. This review conducts a thorough examination of the existing nanotherapeutics and highlights the strategies for developing prospective nanomedicines to mitigate anesthetics-related toxicity. Initially, general, regional, and local anesthesia along with the commonly used anesthetics and related prevalent side effects are introduced. Furthermore, employing nanotechnology to prevent and alleviate the complications of anesthetics is systematically demonstrated from three aspects, that is, developing 1) safe nano-formulization for anesthetics; 2) nano-antidotes to sequester overdosed anesthetics and alter their pharmacokinetics; 3) nanomedicines with pharmacodynamic activities to treat anesthetics toxicity. Finally, the prospects and challenges facing the clinical translation of nanotherapeutics for anesthesia-related complications are discussed. This work provides a comprehensive roadmap for developing effective nanotherapeutics to prevent and mitigate anesthesia-associated toxicity, which can potentially revolutionize the management of anesthesia complications.

    Abstract Waste recycling constitutes an important part of sustainable municipal eco-management, but the chronic and enduring problem in China is how to motivate residents to participate. Although previous research has found that persuasive incentives can exert a powerful influence on people's pro-environmental behavior, little work placed much emphasis on the effect of various incentives and make a comparison. The moderating role of social norms in indigenous scene is also ignored. The present research attempts to tackle this issue to explore theoretically the black box of China's policy implementation. We conducted two survey experiments online in China from February 28 to April 25, 2021. The results in experiment 1 show that four incentives significantly affect respondents' disposition toward recycling behavior, of which monetary incentive is the most effective strategy and the order of the rest incentives is environmental framing incentive, institutional incentive and moral incentive according to the effect calculated by the model. Furthermore, experiment 2 finds that social norms positively moderate the nexus between incentives and recycling behavior, and descriptive norms play a more significant role than injunctive norms. Finally, implications for public policy and limitations are discussed.

    Abstract Cooperative bimetallic catalysis to access novel reactivities is a powerful strategy for reaction development in transition-metal-catalyzed chemistry. Particularly, elucidation of the evolution of two transition-metal catalysts and understanding their roles in dual catalysis are among the most fundamental goals for bimetallic catalysis. Herein, a novel three-component reaction of a terminal alkyne, a diazo ester, and an allylic carbonate was successfully developed via cooperative Cu/Rh catalysis with Xantphos as the ligand, providing a highly efficient strategy to access 1,5-enynes with an all-carbon quaternary center that can be used as immediate synthetic precursors for complex cyclic molecules. Notably, a Meyer-Schuster rearrangement was involved in the reactions using propargylic alcohols, resulting in an unprecedented acylation-allylation of carbenes.     Abstract The metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) method is preferred for genotyping useful for the identification of organisms, illumination of metabolic pathways, and determination of microbiota. It can accurately obtain all the nucleic acid information in the test sample. Anthrax is one of the most important zoonotic diseases, infecting mainly herbivores and occasionally humans. The disease has four typical clinical forms, cutaneous, gastrointestinal, inhalation, and injection, all of which may result in sepsis or meningitis, with cutaneous being the most common form. Here, we report a case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS in a butcher. Histopathology of a skin biopsy revealed PAS-positive bacilli. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sample was confirmed the diagnosis of anthrax by mNGS. He was cured with intravenous penicillin. To our knowledge, this is the first case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS using FFPE tissue. mNGS is useful for identifying pathogens that are difficult to diagnose with conventional methods, and FFPE samples are simple to manage. Compared with traditional bacterial culture, which is difficult to cultivate and takes a long time, mNGS can quickly and accurately help us diagnose anthrax, so that anthrax can be controlled in a timely manner and prevent the outbreak of epidemic events.
