Abstract The difficulties in accessibility and affordability of healthcare services have posed persistent challenges to the Chinese government ever since the 1990s. This research aimed to explore the perceived accessibility and affordability of the healthcare system, which is also referred to as the social problem of Kan Bing Nan , Kan Bing Gui among older Chinese adults. The research, based on 2169 sample data points from the Chinese Social Survey (CSS) 2021 database, explored the objective and subjective factors in constructing the public perceptions of accessibility and affordability of the healthcare system among both older adult users and older adult non-users of healthcare services, including healthcare expenditure variables, patient experience variables, financial protection variables, and social evaluation variables. The study utilized binary logistic regression analysis to investigate how four different sets of independent variables impact the perceived affordability and accessibility of the healthcare system by older adults. The research found that Kan Bing Nan , Kan Bing Gui was considered the most pressing issue among the older adults in China. Self-reported medical burdens, the cost of healthcare services, and the perceived fairness of public healthcare services were significantly associated with older adults’ perceived affordability and accessibility of the healthcare system.

Abstract Skeleton and teeth are important biological samples. Due to their special structure and strong ability to resist degradation, they are ideal biological materials to retain DNA under natural condition. In many cases, such as historical figure identification, aged skeleton and teeth are usually the only biological samples. However, their DNA is in a state of trace, damage and degradation to different degrees, which requires special experimental treatment to achieve identification. This paper reviews the sample selection, DNA extraction, DNA enrichment and analysis approaches based on relevant research reports in recent years, aiming to promote the further development and improvement of the aged skeleton and teeth identification system.

Abstract The Chinese authorities have formulated a vision for the global future that it terms ‘ecological civilization’ ( shengtai wenming 生态文明). It was introduced into Communist Party ideology in 2007 and endorsed by Xi Jinping in 2013 as a major framework for the country’s environmental policies. During the 2000s, the government set in motion many stricter environmental regulations and targets in line with this vision, including opening up some new room for bottom-up, volunteer-driven initiatives mostly on waste collection, recycling, education, and sustainable agriculture. At the same time, it calls for more participation of women in environmental governance at grassroots levels. Surveys in different parts of the world, including China, have suggested that women tend to be more concerned with environmental issues than men, but we have few qualitative studies in China of this topic. This article details three case studies in which women have initiated environmental projects in their local communities. They have mobilized other women (and some men) to engage in collective action, and they have generated financial and symbolic resources for their projects. We analyse these cases and argue that by raising the status of environmental issues such as waste collection and recycling, previously often downplayed as “women’s affairs”, China’s environmental turn has helped expand the space available for female subjectivities and participation in public activities. However, this expanding role has not translated into better representation or participation of women at higher levels of political authority beyond the village level, and the emerging female environmental subjectivities remain firmly based in existing political hierarchies and male-dominated structures.

Abstract A transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) is one of the most attractive approaches and is popular due to high patient compliance, low risk and ease of applicability. To formulate a bioadhesive gel with Ropivacaine-loaded nanoparticles for enhancement of the local anaesthesia. The ionotropic gelation method was used to formulate nanoparticles and characterized for particle size, zeta potential, PDI, drug loading and surface morphology. The optimized nanoparticulate formulation was further used in the development of bioadhesive gel and characterized for clarity, pH, bioadhesive strength, drug content, viscosity, ex-vivo skin permeation and in vivo Tail Flick test on a rat model. Among nanoparticle formulations, NP4 formulation was found to be the ideal formulation based on Physico chemical parameters. The F6 bioadhesive gel was considered optimised amongst all the formulations. The F6 gel showed an excellent skin permeation profile over 14 hr as compared to other formulations. This formulation showed maximum anesthetic effect compared to other formulations as observed in the tail flick test. F6 formulation containing RPV nanoparticles showed 3.32 folds increase in anesthetic activity as compared to the control gel. Bioadhesive transdermal gel containing RPV nanoparticles would be a potential alternative strategy for improving the anesthetic effect.

Abstract The newly discovered high-temperature superconductivity in La_{3}Ni_{2}O_{7} under pressure has attracted a great deal of attention. The essential ingredient characterizing the electronic properties is the bilayer NiO_{2} planes coupled by the interlayer bonding of 3d_{z^{2}} orbitals through the intermediate oxygen atoms. In the strong coupling limit, the low-energy physics is described by an intralayer antiferromagnetic spin-exchange interaction J_{∥} between 3d_{x^{2}-y^{2}} orbitals and an interlayer one J_{⊥} between 3d_{z^{2}} orbitals. Taking into account Hund's rule on each site and integrating out the 3d_{z^{2}} spin degree of freedom, the system reduces to a single-orbital bilayer t-J model based on the 3d_{x^{2}-y^{2}} orbital. By employing the slave-boson approach, the self-consistent equations for the bonding and pairing order parameters are solved. Near the physically relevant 1/4-filling regime (doping δ=0.3∼0.5), the interlayer coupling J_{⊥} tunes the conventional single-layer d-wave superconducting state to the s-wave one. A strong J_{⊥} could enhance the interlayer superconducting order, leading to a dramatically increased T_{c}. Interestingly, there could exist a finite regime in which an s+id state emerges.

Abstract Recent research has suggested that episodic memory can guide our decision-making. Forgetting is one essential characteristic of memory. If certain memories are suppressed to be forgotten, decisions that rely on such memories should be impacted. So far, little research has examined whether suppression of episodic memory would impact decision-making. In the current pre-registered study, the effect of memory suppression on subsequent reinforcement decision-making was examined by combining the Think/No-think paradigm and a reinforcement decision-making task. We found that suppressing memories of learned associations significantly impaired recollected memories of those associations, and participants' decision bias disappeared after their memory associations were suppressed. Furthermore, the more memory associations participants recalled, the higher decision preferences they exhibited. Our findings provide additional support for the role of episodic memory in reinforcement decision-making, and suggest that suppressing memory associations can lead to behavioral consequences.

Abstract Intravitreal transplantation of allogeneic human retinal progenitor cells (hRPCs) holds promise as a treatment for blinding retinal degenerations. Prior work has shown that neural progenitors are well-tolerated as allografts following single injections; however, sequential delivery of allogeneic cells raises the potential risk of host sensitization with subsequent immune rejection of grafts. The current study was designed to assess whether an immune response would be induced by repeated intravitreal transplants of allogeneic RPCs utilizing the mouse animal model. We injected murine retinal progenitor cells (gmRPCs), originally derived from donors with a C57BL/6 genetic background, into BALB/c recipient mice in order to provide safety data as to what might be expected following repeated treatment of patients with allogeneic human cell product. Immune responses to gmRPCs were mild, consisting of T cells, B cells, neutrophils, and natural killer cells, with macrophages clearly the predominating. Animals treated with repeat doses of gmRPCs did not show evidence of sensitization, nor was there immune-mediated destruction of the grafts. Despite the absence of immunosuppressive treatments, allogeneic gmRPC grafts survived following repeat dosing, thus providing support for the preliminary observation that repeated injection of allogeneic RPCs to the vitreous cavity is tolerated in patients with retinitis pigmentosa.

Abstract Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The etiology of AMI is complex and has not been fully defined. In recent years, the role of immune response in the development, progression and prognosis of AMI has received increasing attention. The aim of this study was to identify key genes associated with the immune response in AMI and to analyze their immune infiltration. Methods The study included a total of two GEO databases, containing 83 patients with AMI and 54 healthy individuals. We used the linear model of microarray data (limma) package to find the differentially expressed genes associated with AMI, performing weighted gene co-expression analysis (WGCNA) to further identify the genes associated with inflammatory response to AMI. We found the final hub genes through the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model. To verify the above conclusions, we constructed mice AMI model, extracting myocardial tissue to perform qRT-PCR. Furthermore, the CIBERSORT tool for immune cells infiltration analysis was also carried out. Results A total of 5,425 significant up-regulated and 2,126 down-regulated genes were found in GSE66360 and GSE24519. A total of 116 immune-related genes in close association with AMI were screened by WGCNA analysis. These genes were mostly clustered in the immune response on the basis of GO and KEGG enrichment. With construction of PPI network and LASSO regression analysis, this research found three hub genes (SOCS2, FFAR2, MYO10) among these differentially expressed genes. The immune cell infiltration results revealed that significant differences could be found on T cells CD4 memory activated, Tregs (regulatory T cells), macrophages M2, neutrophils, T cells CD8, T cells CD4 naive, eosinophils between controls and AMI patients.
