Abstract BACKGROUND: Lipid accumulation product (LAP) is an index describing the overaccumulation of lipid. Baseline LAP was used for type 2 diabetes (T2D) prediction in previous studies. But the longitudinal trajectories of LAP, which reflect the efficacy of patients’ lipid-lowering treatment and lifestyle improvement, have rarely been studied. The aim of this study is to explore the association of lipid accumulation product trajectories with 5-year incidence of type 2 diabetes. METHODS: This cohort study included 4508 non-diabetic participants with a median age of 42 years. Using the group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM), LAP from 2011 to 2016 were determined and identified as three trajectories: low (n = 3639), moderate (n = 800), and high (n = 69). Baseline LAP was divided into groups by percentiles and tertiles respectively for the comparison of LAP trajectories. The associations between 5-year T2D incidence and LAP trajectories and baseline LAP were both assessed by generalized linear models. RESULTS: From 2011 to 2016, 169 participants developed T2D (the 5-year incidence of 3.8%). For participants with low, moderate, and high trajectories, the incidence of T2D was 2.1, 10.0, and 15.9%, respectively. A significant trend was observed in the relative risks (RRs) of 5-year incident T2D in participants with moderate (RR, 1.95; 95% CI: 1.41–2.70) and high LAP trajectory (RR, 2.20; 95% CI: 1.12–4.30) in the fully adjusted model (p for trend< 0.001). However, there were no statically significant trends in RRs in different tertiles of baseline LAP found after full adjustments. CONCLUSION: The trajectories of LAP has an independent effect on 5-year T2D incidence beyond LAP measured at baseline.

Abstract The star fruit is popularly cultivated and consumed in Southeast Asia due to its high antioxidant capacity and various nutrients. In this study, three commercial probiotic strains (Lactobacillus helveticus L10, Lactobacillus paracasei L26, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001) were evaluated in star fruit juice fermentation and all strains grew well with the final cell counts of around 108 CFU/ml. The star fruit juice fermented by L. rhamnosus produced the highest amount of lactic acid, resulting in a significant lower pH (4.41) than that of L. helveticus (4.76) and L. paracasei (4.71). Most of aldehydes and esters endogenous in star fruit juice decreased to low or undetectable levels, while ketones, alcohols, and fatty acids were produced at varying levels that could impart different aroma notes to the beverages. Therefore, the selection of appropriate probiotics can be an alternative way to develop new functional beverages from star fruit juice with specific aroma notes.

Abstract The aggregate-level age-crime distributions in Western countries are predominantly right-skewed and adolescent-spiked. Based on Western data, Hirschi and Gottfredson (1983) asserted that this age-crime pattern is universally invariant across time and places. This study's overall goal is to rigorously examine Hirschi and Gottfredson's invariant premise within a non-Western country, focusing on the stability and change in the age-crime patterns of South Korea from 1980 to 2019. Specifically, two research questions are addressed: (1) whether the average age-arrest curves in South Korea diverge from the invariant premise after adjusting for period and cohort effects; (2) how period and cohort effects modify the age-arrest curves. To examine these questions, I applied the age-period-cohort-interaction model (APC-I) to analyze the official age-specific arrest statistics for various offense types from 1980 to 2019 in South Korea. Findings suggested that the age-crime patterns of homicide, assault, and fraud are characterized by spread-out distributions and advanced peak ages. After adjusting for period and cohort effects, most of the age-crime curves are still robustly divergent from the age-crime distributions found in Western countries. Cohort and period effects have modified the age-crime patterns, but arrests in South Korea are largely concentrated among midlife age groups older than 30. These results provide additional compelling evidence contesting Hirschi and Gottfredson's invariance thesis, underscoring the substantial impact of country-specific processes, historical context, and cultural factors on the age-crime relationship.

Abstract Background: Globally, China bears the highest stroke burden, emphasizing the paramount importance of comprehending the influencing factors on family resilience among patients with ischemic stroke to promote their physical and mental well-being, as well as enhance the quality of their life. This understanding can concurrently assist healthcare professionals in formulating interventions aimed at fostering healthy family functioning.
Objective: To investigate the level of family resilience in patients with ischemic stroke and its predictive factors.
Methods: A total of 310 inpatients with ischemic stroke were recruited from three tertiary general hospitals in China between May and November 2021. The study employed a range of instruments for data collection, including the General data questionnaire, Family Resilience Rating Scale, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, Perceived Social Support Scale and Connor-Davidsion Re-silience Scale. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 22.0 statistical software. Non-parametric tests, Spearman analysis, and multiple stepwise regression were employed to investigate the predictive variables of family resilience.
Results: A total of 303 patients successfully completed the investigation, yielding an efficacy rate of 97.74 %. The total scores for family resilience spanned from 87 to 245, with a median (
Conclusion: Patients with high family resilience demonstrated superior family relationship, effective positive coping strategies, increased support within and outside the family, and a more optimistic attitude; these factors independently predict family resilience.

Abstract Autoimmune liver disease is not common in children. In addition to autoimmune hepatitis, it also includes autoimmune sclerosing cholangitis, Giant cell hepatitis with autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and de novo autoimmune hepatitis after liver transplantation as well as two acquired autoimmune liver diseases: neonatal lupus and Gestational alloimmune liver disease (alternate name neonatal hemochromatosis). The age-specific systemic developmental characteristics and immune system association determine the type of autoimmune liver disease in children, and its clinical manifestations and prognostic transition may vary from adults. Here, we discuss the rising clinical incidence of autoimmune hepatitis in children.

Abstract Sexual selection has become an important research topic in behavioral ecology, human behavior, and evolution. The study of mate selection preferences across cultures and countries has gradually received increasing attention. The present study was aimed to reveal the differences of long-term and short-term mate selection preferences between young people in Chinese and South Korean. An questionnaire survey method was followed to obtain the aim of the study, and a total of 273 Chinese (
