Abstract Background: Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) is a key marker for atherosclerosis, with its modulation being crucial for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk assessment. While thyroid function's impact on cardiovascular health is recognized, the causal relationship and underlying mechanisms influencing CIMT remain to be elucidated.
Methods: In this study, Mendelian Randomization (MR) was employed to assess the causal relationship between thyroid function and CIMT. Thyroid hormone data were sourced from the Thyroidomics Consortium, while lipid traits and CIMT measurements were obtained from the UK Biobank. The primary analysis method was a two-sample MR using multiplicative random effects inverse variance weighting (IVW-MRE). Additionally, the study explored the influence of thyroid hormones on lipid profiles and assessed their potential mediating role in the thyroid function-CIMT relationship through multivariate MR analysis.
Results: The study revealed that lower levels of Free Thyroxine (FT4) within the normal range are significantly associated with increased CIMT. This association was not observed with free triiodothyronine (FT3), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), or TPOAb. Additionally, mediation analysis suggested that apolipoprotein A-I and B are involved in the relationship between thyroid function and CIMT. The findings indicate a potential U-shaped curve relationship between FT4 levels and CIMT, with thyroid hormone supplementation in hypothyroid patients showing benefits in reducing CIMT.
Conclusion: This research establishes a causal link between thyroid function and CIMT using MR methods, underscoring the importance of monitoring thyroid function for early cardiovascular risk assessment. The results advocate for the consideration of thyroid hormone supplementation in hypothyroid patients as a strategy to mitigate the risk of carotid atherosclerosis. These insights pave the way for more targeted approaches in managing patients with thyroid dysfunction to prevent cardiovascular complications.

Abstract The pathological features of acute and chronic kidney diseases are closely associated with cell death in glomeruli and tubules. Ferroptosis is a form of programmed cell death characterized by iron overload-induced oxidative stress. Ferroptosis has recently gained increasing attention as a pathogenic mechanism of kidney damage. Specifically, the ferroptosis signaling pathway has been found to be involved in the pathological process of acute and chronic kidney injury, potentially contributing to the development of both acute and chronic kidney diseases. This paper aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of ferroptosis and its role in the pathogenesis of kidney disease, highlighting its significance and proposing novel directions for its treatment.

Abstract Aiming at the flexible job shop scheduling problem, this paper constructs a dual-objective mathematical model to minimize the maximum completion time and the minimum total processing cost. The traditional firework algorithm introduces a variable neighborhood search strategy, which is generated during the explosion of the algorithm. On the basis of explosive spark and Gaussian spark, the algorithm is further avoided from falling into the dilemma of local optimization. The product of completion time and processing cost is used as the fitness value of the plan, so that the firework algorithm is suitable for solving the two objective scheduling problems in this paper, and the ratio of fitness value and congestion is used as a comprehensive index for the selection of the optimal plan . In this paper, the selected 5×6 calculation examples are solved, and the completion time of the optimal scheduling scheme is reduced by 12.9%, and the total production cost is reduced by 17.67%, which verifies the feasibility and efficiency of the method.

Abstract Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with nano-fillers dispersed in polymer matrix have been proposed as alternative pervaporation membrane materials. They possess both promising selectivity benefiting from the fillers and economical processing capabilities of polymers. ZIF-67 was synthesized and incorporated into the sulfonated poly (aryl ether sulfone) (SPES) matrix to prepare SPES/ZIF-67 mixed matrix membranes with different ZIF-67 mass fractions. The as-prepared membranes were used for pervaporation separation of methanol/methyl tert-butyl ether mixtures. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and laser particle size analysis results show that ZIF-67 is successfully synthesized, and the particle size is mainly between 280 nm and 400 nm. The membranes were characterized by SEM, atomic force microscope (AFM), water contact angle, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), mechanical property testing and positron annihilation technique (PAT), sorption and swelling experiments, and the pervaporation performance was also investigated. The results reveal that ZIF-67 particles disperse uniformly in the SPES matrix. The roughness and hydrophilicity are enhanced by ZIF-67 exposed on the membrane surface. The mixed matrix membrane has good thermal stability and mechanical properties, which can meet the requirements of pervaporation operation. The introduction of ZIF-67 effectively regulates the free volume parameters of the mixed matrix membrane. With increasing ZIF-67 mass fraction, the cavity radius and free volume fraction increase gradually. When the operating temperature is 40 °C, the flow rate is 50 L·h

Abstract Water side free cooling is an important technology for cooling water system to use natural cooling source for energy saving, especially in the field of data center and industrial production. However, the operation regulation of water side free cooling system was lack of scientific basis. This process involves the two-phase circulation of air and cooling water, which requires the coordinated operation of air and water to further optimize the energy consumption. The coordinated operation of air and water includes the coordination of air and water flow in each cooling tower and the matching of the operating numbers of equipment in the system. Firstly, based on the characteristics of the cooling tower, the key equipment in the water side free cooling system, the air-water two-phase heat transfer model in the cooling tower was established. Then, according to the heat transfer model and power model of each equipment in the system, the optimization objectives and constraints are established. An improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was proposed to solve the problem of wind water collaborative optimization of water side free cooling system. Finally, this paper takes a small data center cooling water system as an example to analyze the optimization performance of the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm. The simulation results showed that the excellent rate obtained by the improved algorithm can be increased by 36.9%, which is more energy-saving. This method can provide a reference for the energy-saving optimization of water side free cooling system.

Abstract Aerosol plays an important role in global climate effect, and Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD), as one of its important parameters, can not only monitor the turbidity of the atmosphere, but also is an important index of atmospheric correction quality in remote sensing. Urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is a key national-level urban agglomerations in China, and its rapid urbanization leads to the aggravation of urban diseases such as disorderly development of cities, waste of resources and environmental pollution, and the research on ecological environment problems of urban agglomerations is also the current key project. In view of the above problems, this paper studies the AOD inversion and its spatial and temporal distribution in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, in order to provide important scientific materials for environmental monitoring and satellite atmospheric correction quality inspection.

Abstract Metastatic cancer is a major cause of cancer-related mortality; however, the complex regulation process remains to be further elucidated. A large amount of preliminary investigations focus on the role of epigenetic mechanisms in cancer metastasis. Notably, the posttranslational modifications were found to be critically involved in malignancy, thus attracting considerable attention. Beyond acetylation, novel forms of acylation have been recently identified following advances in mass spectrometry, proteomics technologies, and bioinformatics, such as propionylation, butyrylation, malonylation, succinylation, crotonylation, 2-hydroxyisobutyrylation, lactylation, among others. These novel acylations play pivotal roles in regulating different aspects of energy mechanism and mediating signal transduction by covalently modifying histone or nonhistone proteins. Furthermore, these acylations and their modifying enzymes show promise regarding the diagnosis and treatment of tumors, especially tumor metastasis. Here, we comprehensively review the identification and characterization of 11 novel acylations, and the corresponding modifying enzymes, highlighting their significance for tumor metastasis. We also focus on their potential application as clinical therapeutic targets and diagnostic predictors, discussing the current obstacles and future research prospects.

Abstract Background: The omission of axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) or axillary radiation (AxRT) remains controversial in patients with clinical node-negative early breast cancer and a positive sentinel lymph node.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive review by searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases (up to November 2023). Our primary outcomes were overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), locoregional recurrence (LRR), and axillary recurrence (AR).
Results: We included 26 studies encompassing 145,548 women with clinical node-negative early breast cancer and positive sentinel lymph node. Pooled data revealed no significant differences between ALND and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) alone in terms of OS (hazard ratio [HR]0.99, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.91-1.08,
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that survival and recurrence rates are not inferior in patients with clinical node-negative early breast cancer and a positive sentinel lymph node who receive SLNB alone compared to those undergoing ALND or AxRT.
