Abstract This book introduces planning support systems by combining policy decision-making process with the mechanism of urban spatial or functional development regarding to the planning policies on strategic level. By analyzing policy interactions between household agents, the book concentrates on visualizing and forecasting macro phenomenon of policy effects through revealing the discrete, micro human behaviors around the urban functions of dwelling, recreation, working, and transportation. Simulations are created based on these policy outcome assessments, taking into account the influences of energy and resource consumption and CO2 emission on sustainable development in urban environments. The book is geared towards researchers, universities, and urban policy makers. The book begins by presenting a framework of urban growth simulation, and introducing Spatial Strategic Planning Support System (SSP-SS). Then, household lifecycle and relocation models are employed for simulating policy impacts on urbanization, and investigating the impacts of spatial strategic planning. Several projects are assessed using agent-based modeling including shopping centre construction, day-care service for aging populations, and developing of "bus city" for reducing transportation CO2 emission. The final chapter identifies the key planning factors that play effective roles on reducing carbon emission in urban master plan by simulating the carbon emission volume in urban area.

Abstract Flipped classroom approach has become well-accepted and widely-used in different levels of education. Critical thinking was deemed as the core goal of higher education institutions to enhance students' competence advocated in the 21st century. The definition of critical thinking originating from Peter Facione was one of the most widely-accepted and commonly-used at present. The aim of the research was to explore a flipped classroom approach which was effective to enhance critical thinking skills proposed by Peter Facione, namely interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation and self-regulation. This study selected 300 junior students majoring in business administration (100 students), international trade (100 students), and accounting (100 students) respectively of a private university in China, and took the

Abstract Employees are critical stakeholders for an organization because they directly deal with the end-users and represent the entire firm. To recognize the strategic importance of the employees, organizations create communication programs to keep employees apprised of organizational issues. In this regard, this study examined the role of communication strategies (i.e., information flow, information adequacy, and information feedback) on organizational commitment. The study also investigated the mediating effect of faculty engagement between communication strategies and organizational commitment. Self-administered survey aided in acquiring data from 276 English language teachers in China. The analysis of the data was conducted using SmartPLS through the Structured Equation Modeling technique. The outcome of the study demonstrated that information flow and information feedback significantly impact organizational commitment and faculty engagement. The analysis also revealed that information adequacy significantly impacts organizational commitment but has no relationship with faculty engagement. The mediation analysis demonstrated that faculty engagement mediated the relationship between information flow and organizational commitment and between information feedback and organization commitment. However, faculty engagement did not mediate the relationship between information adequacy and organizational commitment among English language teachers in China. In theoretical terms, the study contributed in terms of incorporating different communication strategies and examining their effect on organizational commitment and faculty engagement. In practical terms, this study would be beneficial for the management of the educational institutes to develop different ways of enhancing communication strategies within the institute. This study also provided directions for the future, for example, conducting the study on other subject teachers, increasing the sample, carrying out the research in a different context, and adding different mediators and moderators in the existing model.

Abstract In web design, we need to make full use of computer multimedia technology, which can effectively improve the quality of web design and provide greater convenience. The neural network needs to calculate a large amount of training data in image optimization, and the calculation speed cannot keep up with real-time data processing, resulting in the problem of poor quality of optimized images. This paper analyzes the problems existing in the traditional optimized BP neural network algorithm and puts forward an optimized BP neural network image optimization method which combines the increase of momentum term with the adaptive adjustment of learning rate. This method can speed up the iteration speed and jump out of the situation of premature local minimum. The test results show that the user satisfaction of the text visual effect of the web interface optimized by this method is more than 98% and the user satisfaction of other methods is only about 90%. The visual satisfaction of the web interface optimized by this method is significantly higher than that of the comparative method. The web interface visual optimization effect of the method in this article is better, and it can meet the satisfaction requirements of most users.

Abstract Rapid acquisition of remote sensing information has important research significance for the development of image semantic segmentation methods in remote sensing image interpretation applications. With more and more types of data recorded by satellite remote sensing images and more and more complex feature information, accurate and effective extraction of information in remote sensing images has become the key to interpret remote sensing images by image semantic segmentation methods. In order to explore the image semantic segmentation method for fast and efficient interpretation of remote sensing images, a large number of image semantic segmentation methods for remote sensing images are summarized. Firstly, the traditional image semantic segmentation methods are reviewed and divided into edge detection-based segmentation methods, region-based segmentation methods, threshold-based segmentation methods and segmentation methods combined with specific theories. At the same time, the limitations of traditional image semantic segmentation methods are analyzed. Secondly, the semantic segmentation methods based on deep learning are elaborated in detail, and the basic ideas and technical characteristics of each method are used as the classification criteria. They are divided into four categories: FCN-based methods, codec-based methods, dilated convolution-based methods and attention-based methods. The sub-methods contained in each type of method are summarized, and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are compared and analyzed. Then, the common datasets and performance evaluation indexes of remote sensing image semantic segmentation are briefly introduced. Experimental results of classical network models on different datasets are given, and the performance of different models is evaluated. Finally, the challenges of image semantic segmentation methods in high-resolution remote sensing image interpretation are analyzed, and the future development trend is prospected.

Abstract At present, there are problems in the ideological and political education, such as insufficient awareness of all staff participation, difficulties in digging out ideological and political elements, educators with mixed qualities, single teaching mode of ideological and political courses, and lack of evaluation of ideological and political effectiveness. This paper takes the ideological and political course of “ Principles and Interface Technology of Microcontroller Unit” as an example, from the top-level design of the university, the design of professional talent training programs to specialized course design of ideological and political education. Using “Project + BOPPPS” mode, the comprehensive project “Water Level Monitoring and Display” is divided into three sub-projects. Each project has its specific knowledge, ability, accomplishment and educational goals, and the matching educational elements are selected to be organically integrated into the sub-projects. The trinity assessment method of “Knowledge + Skills + Attitude” is not only the evaluation of knowledge and ability, but also the evaluation of ideological and political effectiveness. The curriculum ideological and political implementation under this model has certain achievements and has certain reference value.

Abstract Introduction: With the educational reform for skills in the 21st century, a large number of scholars have explored project-based learning. However, whether project-based learning can effectively improve the learning effect of students has not yet reached a unified conclusion.
Method: This study uses a meta-analysis method to transform 66 experimental or quasi-experimental research papers based on project-based learning over the past 20 years into 190 effect values from the sample size, mean, and standard deviation of experimental data during their experiments, and to conduct in-depth quantitative analysis.
Results: The results of the study showed that compared with the traditional teaching model, project-based learning significantly improved students' learning outcomes and positively contributed to academic achievement, affective attitudes, and thinking skills, especially academic achievement.
Discussion: The results of the moderating effects test indicated that the effectiveness of project-based learning and teaching was influenced by different moderating variables, including country region, subject area, type of course, academic period, group size, class size, and experimental period : (1) from the perspective of country geography, the effects of project-based learning in Asia, especially in Southeast Asia, were significantly better than those in Western Europe and North America; (2) in terms of curriculum, project-based learning promotes student learning effects more significantly in engineering and technology subjects, and is better applied in laboratory classes than in theory classes; (3) from a pedagogical point of view, project-based learning is more suitable for small group teaching, in which the group size is 4-5 people teaching the best results; (4) in view of the experimental period, 9-18 weeks is more appropriate and has more obvious advantages for application at the high school level.
