Abstract Land use and land use change are major drivers of biodiversity loss. A well-established tool for measuring such impacts throughout the life cycle of products and services is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Although valuable biodiversity impact assessment methodologies exist within LCA, they are still rarely used by companies and communities. This is mainly because existing methodologies are not globally applicable or provide insufficient decision support for LCA end-users. This thesis therefore presents a new, globally operational method for analysing biodiversity impacts in LCA. The new Biodiversity Multi-Scale Assessment of Product Systems (BioMAPS) method is based on key ecological, conservation and technical requirements for LCA. It provides LCA end-users with a coherent framework for assessing the biodiversity impacts of product systems. Consequently, this methodology aims to mitigate negative impacts by identifying concrete actions at global, regional and local scales.

Abstract This work presents models and simulations of a numerical strategy for a time and cost-efficient virtual product development of a novel passive safety restraint concept for motorcycles. It combines multiple individual development tasks in an aggregated procedure. The strategy consists of three successive virtual development stages with a continuously increasing level of detail and expected fidelity in multibody and finite element simulation environments. The results show what is possible with an entirely virtual concept study-based on the clever combination of multibody dynamics and nonlinear finite elements-that investigates the structural behavior and impact dynamics of the powered two-wheeler with the safety systems and the rider's response. The simulations show a guided and controlled trajectory and deceleration of the motorcycle rider, resulting in fewer critical biomechanical loads on the rider compared to an impact with a conventional motorcycle. The numerical research strategy outlines a novel procedure in virtual motorcycle accident research with different levels of computational effort and model complexity aimed at a step-by-step validation of individual components in the future.

Title translation Fournier's gangrene as special form of necrotizing fasciitis.
Abstract Fournier's gangrene is a special form of necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI) and can affect the genital, perineal and perianal regions. Although the disease is named after Fournier, it was first documented by Baurienne in 1764. He described it as idiopathic rapidly progressive gangrene in young otherwise healthy men. Nowadays, the disease is more likely to affect older patients, especially those with pre-existing diseases (e.g. diabetes mellitus and peripheral arterial occlusive disease). Although men are still predominantly affected by Fournier's gangrene, by definition it can also affect women. In most cases it is caused by polymicrobial infections with Enterobacteriaceae. The less common monomicrobial infections are frequently caused by beta hemolyzing Streptococci and then frequently in connection with toxic shock syndrome. Early and aggressive surgical and antimicrobial treatment is crucial to reduce mortality and morbidity. The indications for surgical exploration must be generously considered. The calculated antimicrobial treatment should be carried out as soon as possible, intravenously and in a sufficiently high dosage to catch the expected pathogen. In the era of overspecialization, the treatment of Fournier's gangrene remains a competence that must be comprehensively mastered by clinically active surgeons and urologists. Little has changed with respect to the diagnostic and treatment algorithms in recent years; nevertheless, based on the abovenamed aspects it would appear to be meaningful to present the current aspects and treatment of the disease.
