Abstract The trait evolution of different forceps types within the species-rich genus Caenis Stephens, 1835 and their worldwide distribution are partly interpreted as a result of reproductive isolation due to continental drift, thus reflecting possible phylogenetic relationships. Consequently, a hypothetical subdivision of the genus is suggested.

Abstract Four new species of Caenis and a new subspecies of Afrocaenis major are described from Ethiopia: Afrocaenis major ginchicassp. n. (imagines and larvae), Caenis gretathunbergaesp. n. (imagines and larvae), Caenis oromosp. n. (larvae), Caenis grafisp. n. (larvae) and Caenis afrocaenoidessp. n. (imagines), as well as the larval stages of the formerly described Caenis nervulosaMalzacher, 1990. Additionally, a few males of the Palaearctic species Caenis horaria (Linnaeus, 1758) are recorded for the Afrotropical Region. A larval key to the five Ethiopian species with known larvae is provided.

Abstract Nine new species of Caenis from Angola are described herein: Caenis wegeneriana sp. n. (imago), Caenis angolensis sp. n. (imago and larva), Caenis branchiata sp. n. (larva), Caenis filappendicessp.n.(imago),Caenisulesisp.n.(larva),Caeniscubangosp.n.(larva),Caenisarmata sp. n. (imago), Caenis brevispinata sp. n. (imago), and Caenis gallocristata sp. n. (imago). The relationship between the newly described species and other known African species is discussed. The vicariant biogeographic affiliation of Caenis wegeneriana to a related species group in South America, separated by continental drift, is considered. A key to the male imagoes is provided, including Caenis antelucanaMalzacher, 1990, Caenis brevipes Kimmins, 1956, Caenis douglasiMalzacher, 1993 and Caenis jinjana Kimmins, 1956, which have previously been recorded in the Cunene River, along the shared border with Namibia.

Abstract The new mayfly species Caenis albicans sp. n. and Caenis letabanensis sp. n. (Ephemeroptera: Caenidae) from the Kruger National Park, South Africa, are described herein. The new species were collected in the area of the confluence of the Olifants and Letaba Rivers. They belong to the Caenis – TPA group, a group widely distributed in Africa, characterised inter alia by forceps apically having a tuft of long spines. The material examined also contained samples from the Crocodile and Sabie Rivers, with larvae and imagines of Caenis brevipes Kimmins, 1956. The previously unknown larva of this species is also described.

Abstract: Six new species of Caenis from Thailand are described herein: Caenis ludovicin. sp., Caenis nasutan. sp., Caenis longiforcipatan. sp., Caenis karenaen. sp.,Caenis obtusostilatan. sp. and Caenis acutostilatan. sp., as well as the larvae of Caenis picea ... ...

Abstract Six new species of Caenis from Thailand are described herein: Caenis ludovicin. sp., Caenis nasutan. sp., Caenis longiforcipatan. sp., Caenis karenaen. sp.,Caenis obtusostilatan. sp. and Caenis acutostilatan. sp., as well as the larvae of Caenis picea Kimmins, 1947 and Caenis ulmerianaMalzacher, 2013, which were so far only known as males. Furthermore, a new species of the genus Kalimaenis, Kalimaenis proceran. sp., is described. Also described from the same area are two new genera of the subfamily Caeninae: Elatosaran. gen. (Type species Elatosara phanomensisn. sp.) most probably belongs to the tribe Clypeocaenini; Thainisn. gen. (Type species Thainis kalimaenoidesn. sp.), is classified within the tribe Caenini. The phylogeny of the new genera is discussed. A larval key to the Caeninae from Thailand is provided and the key to the male Caenis of the Oriental region (Malzacher 2015) is replenished.

Abstract The present paper is the result of the examination of several thousand specimens of the genus Caenis Stephens, 1835 (Ephemeroptera) which were collected in West Africa in more than 200 light trap samples from 32 rivers in Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, Togo and Ghana. Five new species are described: Caenis vermifera n. sp. (Ivory Coast, Guinea), C. nigricola n. sp. (Mali, Guinea), C. jinjanoides n. sp. (Guinea, Ivory Coast), C. kohli n. sp. (Guinea), and C. orthostilata n. sp. (Mali). The extensive materials allow to add distributional data to previously known species. C. elouardi, C. cibaria kunda, C. gilliesi, C. jinjana, C. antelucana, C. brevipes, C. berneri, and C. pallida are redescribed. The eggs of most of the treated species are described based on SEM pictures. Several questions concerning supposed species relationships are discussed. The subspecies rank of C. brevipes occidentalis Malzacher, 1993 ist rejected.

Abstract Caenis americani sp. nov. is described based on larvae and female imagoes from the Mangalamkombu stream of Southern India. Caenis americani is most likely a parthenogenetic species, in the light of the fact that only females have been collected. The larva can be distinguished from other species of Caenis by the i) shape of the sternum IX and its shagreen field, ii) shape and denticulation of hind claws and iii) lateral lobes of mesonotum distinctly bulged. The phylogenetic relationships of the new species remain unknown, as molecular records of Caenis throughout the Oriental region are largely unknown, and the taxonomically important males are absent.
