    Abstract This study aimed to assess the environmental effectiveness of vineyards utilising on-site weather stations integrated with a decision support system (DSS), and to identify the critical hotspots in smart farms that have already obtained integrated or organic certification. For this purpose, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology was applied. The research comprised three smart farms employing on-site weather stations and a traditional farm without advanced technologies, which served as a benchmark. The analysis revealed variations in environmental footprints driven by differences in farm management practices and soil characteristics. The results highlighted that smart farms, in compliance with integrated or organic certifications, focus on reducing inputs such as agrochemicals or water consumption. However, these reductions could shift the environmental burden to other impacts, such as those related to machinery use, which remained the most critical aspect across all vineyards considered. In some smart farms, critical issues involve other aspects, such as irrigation and fertilisation. The lack of awareness about the potential environmental impacts of the adopted technical options could make smart farms more impactful than traditional farms. Interestingly, this study found that solely implementing advanced technologies could fall short of achieving ecological objectives. This study emphasises the significance of utilising LCA as a valuable tool to support farmers in making informed decisions while adopting technological strategies to achieve environmentally sustainable goals.

    Abstract In this work, thioether-amide ligands featuring a combination of hard amide groups with soft donor groups have been employed to develop new zinc catalysts for the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters. All complexes were prepared in high yields through alkane elimination reactions with diethyl zinc and characterized using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Density functional theory (DFT) characterization provided insight into the parameters that influence catalytic activity, such as steric hindrance at the metal center, Lewis acidity and electronic density of thioether-amide ligands.     Abstract Abstract: We report the intraoperative radioguided localization of an occult well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of the ileum in a patient with a known neuroendocrine lymphonodal metastasis in the mesentery. Preoperative imaging included CT, PET/CT with 68 Ga-DOTATOC, and SPECT/CT with 99m Tc-HYNICTOC. These scans revealed morphological and functional properties of the primary tumor localized in the ileum. The day after IV 99m Tc-HYNICTOC injection, the patient underwent surgery, and the target lesion was intraoperatively detected by a collimated handheld γ-probe. Postoperative pathology examination confirmed the target lesion to be a neuroendocrine tumor of the ileum.

    Abstract Platinum complexes are ubiquitous in chemistry and largely used as catalysts or as precursors in drug chemistry, thus a deep knowledge of their electronic properties may help in planning new synthetic strategies or exploring new potential applications. Herein, the electronic structure of many octahedral platinum complexes is drastically revised especially when they feature electronegative elements such as halogens and chalcogens. The investigation revealed that in most cases the five d platinum orbitals are invariably full, thus the empty antibonding orbitals, usually localized on the metal, are mainly centered on the ligands, suggesting a questionable assignment of formal oxidation state IV. The analysis supports the occurrence of the inverted ligand field theory in all cases with the only exceptions of the Pt-F and Pt-O bonding. The trends for the molecular complexes are mirrored also by the density of states plots of extended structures featuring octahedral platinum moieties in association with chalcogens atoms. Finally, the oxidative addition of a Se-Cl linkage to a square platinum complex to achieve an octahedral moiety has been revised in the framework of the inverted ligand field.

    Abstract Water birds play a crucial role in disseminating and amplifying avian influenza viruses (AIVs) in the environment. However, they may have limited interactions with domestic facilities, raising the hypothesis that other wild birds may play the bridging role in introducing AIVs into poultry. An ornithocoenosis study, based on census-transect and camera-trapping methods, was conducted in 2019 in ten poultry premises in northeast Italy to characterize the bird communities and envisage the species that might act as bridge hosts for AIVs. The data collected were explored through a series of multivariate analyses (correspondence analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling), and biodiversity indices (observed and estimated richness, Shannon entropy and Pielou's evenness). The analyses revealed a high level of complexity in the ornithic population, with 147 censused species, and significant qualitative and quantitative differences in wild bird species composition, both in space and in time. Among these, only a few were observed in close proximity to the farm premises (i.e., Magpies, Blackbirds, Cattle Egrets, Pheasants, Eurasian Collared Doves, and Wood Pigeons), thus suggesting their potential role in spilling over AIVs to poultry; contrarily, waterfowls appeared to be scarcely inclined to close visits, especially during autumn and winter seasons. These findings stress the importance of ongoing research on the wild-domestic bird interface, advocating for a wider range of species to be considered in AIVs surveillance and prevention programs.

    Abstract Cationic phosphametallocene-based platinum(II) aqua complexes were used as efficient precatalysts for the hydrolysis of aromatic and aliphatic tertiary phosphites under neutral reaction conditions at room temperature, leading to the selective cleavage of one P-O bond of the phosphite. NMR labeling experiments combined with stoichiometric model reactions and theoretical density functional theory calculations, performed with the appropriate model compounds, shed light on the operative catalytic cycle, which comprises intramolecular water molecule transfer to the cis-coordinated phosphite molecule.

    Abstract Functionalization is one of the most powerful tools in materials science for the development of new and innovative materials with tailored properties purposefully designed to enhance the overall stability of the system. This is particularly true for exfoliated black phosphorus, which suffers from easy decomposition by air and moisture, hampering its highly desirable applications, especially in electronics. The present work suggests an innovative approach to the functionalization process of this 2D-material based on the selective introduction of chalcogen atoms on the material surface through a reaction with suitable molecular precursors such as stibine chalcogenides (R3Sb(X), X = O or S; R = organyl group). These molecules may readily act as chalcogen-transfer agents and, upon releasing the chalcogen atom atop the bP surface, leave stable stibines (R3Sb) as byproducts, which may be easily removed from the functionalized bP surface. The work provides an overview of all the possible structural, electronic and energy aspects associated with the chalcogen-atom transfer from the stibine to phosphorus based compounds, exemplified by trialkyl phosphines and single layer exfoliated black phosphorus, i.e. phosphorene, Pn. In both cases the oxygen transfer is more exergonic than the sulfur transfer, with the associated free energy barrier for the phosphine process being higher. Although the sulfur transfer for the Pn is found to be endergonic (ca. +3.6 kcal mol-1), the process may surely occur at high temperature. The evolution of the band structure upon the chalcogen transfer has been depicted in detail.
