Abstract Background: For the last few years, in the field of school education, social-emotional competencies have been gaining in importance because they result in positive attitudes and adaptation to school (Mella et al., 2021).
Objective: The current study was designed to conduct Urdu translation, cross-language validation, and confirmatory factor analysis of the Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire (SECQ) for Pakistani adolescents.
Design: Urdu translation was done using the standard back-translation method. The data for the main study was collected using a non-random sampling method for 910 adolescents who were between 10 to 19 years old.
Results: The findings of the pilot study (n = 64) show that the Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire is a reliable questionnaire, as Cronbach's alpha reliabilities of both versions (English and Urdu) were acceptable (Version 1 α = 0.77; Version 2 α = 0.77). After 15 days, the Pearson product-moment correlation was checked to meet the objective of cross-language validation, which resulted in a high correlation between the two forms (r = 0.88). The original author of the questionnaire had proposed a factor structure consisting of five factors, namely: self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, relationship management, and responsible decision-making. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in the present study also confirmed and supported the five-factor structure in comparison to other models for the Urdu version.
Conclusion: The Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire is a reliable and culturally-validated tool for adolescents attending school, which can be used in future research for measuring social-emotional competencies.

Abstract Material science has historically evolved in tandem with advancements in technologies for characterization, synthesis, and computation. Another type of technology to add to this mix is machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). Now increasingly sophisticated AI-models are seen that can solve progressively harder problems across a variety of fields. From a material science perspective, it is indisputable that machine learning and artificial intelligence offer a potent toolkit with the potential to substantially accelerate research efforts in areas such as the development and discovery of new functional materials. Less clear is how to best harness this development, what new skill sets will be required, and how it may affect established research practices. In this paper, those question are explored with respect to increasingly more sophisticated ML/AI-approaches. To structure the discussion, a conceptual framework of an AI-ladder is introduced. This AI-ladder ranges from basic data-fitting techniques to more advanced functionalities such as semi-autonomous experimentation, experimental design, knowledge generation, hypothesis formulation, and the orchestration of specialized AI modules as stepping-stones toward general artificial intelligence. This ladder metaphor provides a hierarchical framework for contemplating the opportunities, challenges, and evolving skill sets required to stay competitive in the age of artificial intelligence.

Abstract The nanoparticles of Zinc ferrite have been broadly used in various fields such as solar cells, photocatalysis, hydrogen storage, sensors etc. Here, the zinc ferrite nanoparticles (ZnFe2O4NPs) was prepared via solution process and characterized in detail with instruments such as XRD, FESEM, TEM, FTIR and TGA. The characterization studies revealed that the average individual size of each NP is ∼ 27 ± 1 nm size. The FTIR shows the functional band of metal and oxygen was obtained at 570 cm−1. Although, the processing and use of zinc iron oxide based nanostructures are very widely utilized in industries but a limited studies are available towards the biological studies. The current work explores the application of ZnFe2O4NPs with the concentration range from 2 to 200 μg/mL against breast cancer cells (MCF-7) to examine the cytotoxicity of oxidative stress and morphological variations using MTT, NRU, LPO, GSH assays after 24 h of treatment. Dose dependent drop in cell survival was seen in MTT and NRU assays. A significant increase in LPO was observed in MCF-7 cells exposed to ZnFe2O4NPs after 24 h of treatment. However, the GSH levels in MCF-7 cells exposed to ZnFe2O4NPs decreased significantly after 24 h. Further, the study of apoptotic gene expression was seen by real time PCR analysis was also conducted and described.

Abstract In this paper, we compare the scalar field dynamics in axion-like and power law potentials for both positive and negative values of the exponents. We find that, for positive exponents, both the potentials exhibit similar scalar field dynamics and it can be difficult to distinguish them at least at the background level. Even though the potentials are oscillatory in nature for positive exponents scaling solutions can be achieved for larger values of the exponent for which the dynamics can be different during early times. Because of the presence of this scaling nature there is a turnaround in the values of the scalar field equation of state as we increase the values of the exponent in both the potentials. This indicates the deviation from the oscillatory behaviour for the larger values of the exponent. For negative values of the exponent, the dynamics of the scalar field is distinguishable and axion-like potential can give rise to cosmologically viable tracker solutions unlike the power law potentials. So, while for positive exponents we may not distinguish the two potentials for negative exponents the dynamics of the scalar field is distinguishable.

Abstract Rescue workers, who often find themselves on the frontlines of traumatic events, face an increased risk of experiencing secondary traumatic stress (STS) and psychological distress (PD). The nature of their work, alongside professional factors, can influence the way these psychological aspects manifest and their level of severity. This study aimed to explore the relationship between STS and PD in rescue workers. Additionally, it sought to understand how factors such as age, years of experience, duration of work, training received and direct exposure to trauma explain significant variations in reporting to STS. To conduct this research, a cross-sectional study design was implemented involving a sample of 80 rescue workers from the Punjab province in Pakistan. Data was collected over eight weeks using the secondary traumatic stress scale (STSS-17) and the general health questionnaire (GHQ-12) as primary assessment tools. Participants' data was analyzed through Pearson correlation analysis,

Abstract Additive manufacturing (AM) has a greater potential to construct lighter parts, having complex geometries with no additional cost, by embedding cellular lattice structures within an object. The geometry of lattice structure can be engineered to achieve improved strength and extra level of performance with the advantage of consuming less material and energy. This paper provides a systematic experimental evaluation of a series of cellular lattice structures, embedded within a cylindrical specimen and constructed according to terms and requirements of ASTMD1621-16, which is standard for the compressive properties of rigid cellular plastics. The modeling of test specimens is based on function representation (FRep) and constructed by fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology. Two different test series, each having eleven test specimens of different parameters, are printed along with their replicates of 70% and 100% infill density. Test specimens are subjected to uniaxial compressive load to produce 13% deformation to the height of the specimen. Comparison of results reveals that specimens, having cellular lattice structure and printed with 70% infill density, exhibit greater strength and improvement in strength to mass ratio, as compared to the solid printed specimen without structure.

Abstract The G protein-coupled α 2 -adrenoceptor subtype C (abbreviated α 2C -AR) has been implicated in peripheral vascular conditions and diseases such as cold feet–hands, Raynaud’s phenomenon, and scleroderma, contributing to morbidity and mortality. Microvascular α 2C -adrenoceptors are expressed in specialized smooth muscle cells and mediate constriction under physiological conditions and the occlusion of blood supply involving vasospastic episodes and tissue damage under pathological conditions. A crucial step for receptor biological activity is the cell surface trafficking of intracellular receptors, triggered by cAMP-Epac-Rap1A GTPase signaling, which involves protein–protein association with the actin-binding protein filamin-2, mediated by critical amino acid residues in the last 14 amino acids of the receptor carboxyl (C)-terminus. This study assessed the role of the C-terminus in Rap1A GTPase coupled receptor trafficking by domain-swapping studies using recombinant tagged receptors in transient co-transfections and compared with wild-type receptors using immunofluorescence microscopy. We further tested the biological relevance of the α 2C -AR C-terminus, when introduced as competitor peptides, to selectively inhibit intracellular α 2C -AR surface translocation in transfected as well as in microvascular smooth muscle cells expressing endogenous receptors. These studies contribute to establishing proof of principle to target intracellular α 2C -adrenoceptors to reduce biological activity, which in clinical conditions can be a target for therapy.

Abstract Vanadium oxide is largely applied as a chemical and industrial product in various field such as in electrochemical, photochemical and refining industries. Very limited studies are available for the use of vanadium oxide to understand the biological activity against cancer cells. The work presented here, to understand the cytotoxicity study against breast cancer cells (MCF-7). Initially, vanadium penta oxide (V2O5) nanorods were synthesized via solution process and were well characterized. The size of the crystallite, phase and morphology of the powder were scrutinized via X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) respectively. The size of each rod shaped structure is ∼2–3 µm length whereas diameter goes 200–250 nm. The cytotoxicity study with this structure has not been studied previously. Therefore, the current work carried out to investigate the efficacy against cancer cells. The cells cytotoxic assesement were analysed via MTT((3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) and NRU (Neutral Red Uptake) assays with varied V2O5 concentrations (2–200 µg/mL), which indicates the reduction in cell viability. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) were measured in cancer cells as the concentration of V2O5 increases, the ROS is increase in the cells, which is the indication of cells death. Also, the RT-PCR study revealed that the mRNA levels of apoptotic genes such as p53, bax, and caspase-3 were up regulated, whereas bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic gene, was down regulated with the interaction of V2O5 increases.
