Abstract | Case: We describe thoracolumbar kyphosis with severe vertebral deformation in a 13-year-old boy with cerebral palsy, hip extension contractures, and history of hip flexion-adduction releases. Conclusion: Patients with cerebral palsy and hip extension contractures may develop thoracolumbar kyphosis to maintain sitting balance. It is important to recognize hip extension contractures as the underlying cause of the compensatory kyphosis and to be familiar with treatment options that address the hips and the spine. |
