Abstract Objectives: Giving the growing population of the elderly, it is important to pay attention to their psychological health. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-compassion in predicting loneliness and self-efficacy in the elderly. Methods & Materials: This is a descriptive correlational study. Study population consisted of all elderly residents of Gonbad Kavous County in Iran. Of these, 120 (70 women and 50 men) were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data collection instruments were University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale of Russell et al. (1966), General Self-efficacy Scale of Scherer et al. (1982) and Self-Compassion Scale of Neff (2003). Data analysis was performed by using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: Loneliness had a significant negative relationship with self-compassion dimensions of self-kindness, common humanity, mindfulness and its overall score, and a significant positive relationship with self-judgment, isolation and over-identification. Moreover, self-efficacy had a significant positive relationship with self-kindness, common humanity, mindfulness and overall self-compassion score, and a negative significant relationship with self-judgment, isolation and over-identification (P≤0.001). Self-kindness, self-judgment, common humanity, isolation, mindfulness and overall self-compassion score can predict 43% of loneliness variance and self-kindness, self-judgment, mindfulness, isolation and overall self-compassion score can predict 38% of self-efficacy variance. Conclusion: Self-compassion have an effective role in reducing loneliness and increasing self-efficacy in the elderly.

Abstract Background: Children are one of the most vulnerable groups of the society and are constantly threatened by different people in their family or society. The aim of this study was investigating the correlation of child abuse with personality features and high risk behavior in high school students of Islamshahr, Iran. Methods: This study cross-sectional analytical was conducted on the high school girls and boys of Islamshahr in spring 2014.528 students were selected by cluster random sampling among 4 high schools (two female and two male high schools). Childhood trauma questionnaire, NEO-Five Factor Inventory and Youth Risk-Taking Scale were used for data collection. Data were analyzed by independence t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression. Results: The results of independence t-test indicated significant differences between girls and boys in terms of child abuse and high risk experience (t=-2.16,p=0.03 and t=-5.03, P=0.001, respectively). Also, the results demonstrated a significant relationship between child abuse and personality characteristics, high risk behavior and all its subscales (P<0.05). The findings of multiple linear regressionindicated that child abuse could explain 14% total risk-taking, 25% neurotic personality feature , 14% extroversion, 10% agreeableness, 1% flexibility and 13% conscientiousness (P<0.05). Conclusion: According to the research findings, appropriate behavior with children is of great importance. Therefore, child abuse would form inappropriate personality features and increase risk behaviors among children.

Abstract Background and Objective: Relationship maintenance Strategy has been described as the behavioral dynamics that assist in preserving a relationship. The aim of this study was to examine confirmatory factor analysis, reliability, and validity of relational maintenance strategy measure of couples in Tehran. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study with correlational design was conducted with participation of 420 couples with children who were studying in the first grade of high school in Tehran. Cluster random sampling was used for selecting participants. Data were collected by Relational Maintenance Strategy Measure (RMSM) and Marital Adjustment questionnaire. Construct validity and convergent validity were used to validate the questionnaire, and to test the reliability of the questionnaire, Cronbach's alpha and retest reliability coefficient were used. Data were entered into AMOS-22 and SPSS-22 software and analyzed using Chi-square indices, Good fit indicators and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The mean (SD) age of participants was 37.6 (6.8). Cronbach's alpha coefficient of subscales assurance, openness, conflict management, share task, positivity, advice, social network, and total Relational Maintenance Strategy were 0.92, 0.91, 0.84, 0.79, 0.78, 0.80, 0.83 0.93, respectively. Correlation coefficients showed that RMSM had a significant positive correlation with DAS which indicates RMSM convergent validity (r= 0.54, P<0.01). In addition, factor structure of the scale of the investment model was confirmed using a confirmatory factor analysis (P<0.01). Conclusion: The study showed that the confirmatory factor structure, reliability and validity of the Relational Maintenance Strategy Measure were acceptable.

Abstract Obese women have negative physical self-concept and attitude about self .Schema therapy as a new approach in psychological intervention is effective in reduction of negative beliefs, self-concept and worry. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group schema therapy on physical self-concept and worry about weight and diet in women with obesity. This study was a quasi-experimental design using pretest-posttest and control group. Statistical population consists of 186 women who referred to a nutrition and diet therapy clinic and nutrition counseling center. After screening women with obesity, they were asked to fulfill Physical Self-Description Questionnaire (PSDQ) and Worry about Weight and Diet Scale (WWDS). Those who gained high scores in these questionnaires (40 women) selected for study. Among of them 30 women were selected randomly and placed in two experimental and control groups (15 persons in each group). The experimental group received 15 sessions of group schema therapy with 90 minutes per session and control group was in waiting list. Both groups completed PSDQ and WWDS in baseline and final intervention. The results showed that there is a significant difference in terms of physical self- concept and concern about weight and food diet between experimental and control group. Group schema therapy training for women with obesity can lead to improvement of physical self-concept and reduction of worry about weight and food diet.

Abstract Background and Objectives: The investment model depicts the theory of interdependence and uses interconnected structures to analyze the tendency to maintain a relationship. The aim of this study was to examine the factor structure, reliability and validity of the scale of the investment model of relationship commitment among couples in Tehran. Material and Method: This study was a descriptive study with correlation design. Participants included couples with middle-aged children in Tehran. Cluster random sampling method was used in the study. Data were collected via the investment model of relationship commitment questionnaire which was developed by Rusbult. To validate the questionnaire, construct validity, confimatory factor analysis, and convergent validity were used. To test the reliability of the questionnaire, Cronbach’s alpha and retest reliability coeffiient were used. Results: Responses of 420 participants, 250 women and 170 men, were analyzed. The Cronbach’s alpha coeffiient was 0.97 for satisfaction subscales, 0.87 the quality of the alternatives, 0.85 the investment in the relationship, and 0.67 the marital commitment. Test re-test coeffiient in a two-week interval was 0.94 for the subscales of satisfaction, 0.86 the quality of the alternatives, 0.82 the investment rate, and 0.67 the personal commitment. Correlation coeffiients showed that marital adjustment scale had a signifiant correlation of 0.84 with satisfaction subscales, 0.29 substitute quality, 0.55 investment rate, and 0.77 personal commitment, which indicates a convergent validity, P<0.01. The factor structure of the scale of the investment model was confimed using a confimatory factor analysis. Conclusion: The confimatory factor structure, reliability and validity of the investment model of relationship commitment were acceptable for research and diagnostic applications.
