    Abstract Reducing non-specific adsorption of proteins on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) is becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we proposed a novel surface modification procedure by grafting hyperbranched polyglycerol (HPG) onto the surface of MNPs (Fe3O4@SiO2@MAA), in which lots of hydroxyl groups from HPG not only provide the hydrates sheath to prevent non-specific adsorption of proteins, but also react with succinic anhydride to generate carboxyl groups that serve as active sites to specifically bind proteins. The protein adsorption experiments showed that the non-specific adsorption (0.07 μg mg-1) was reduced to 4.58% of that before modification. It also showed that the antigen binding capacity was 9.7 times higher than the original when detecting cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in human plasma samples, which indicated that the final synthesized MNPs had great application prospects in bio-separation and bioanalysis.

    Abstract Objectives This research aims at evaluating the quality of anal cancer and its precancerous lesions-related videos on YouTube.Design Cross-sectional survey design.Setting USA.Participants The top 150 videos on YouTube were selected for analysis based on three search terms. The duplicate, irrelevant, commercial, operation-related and audio-free videos were excluded. Finally, 105 relevant videos were included.Methods We assessed the completeness of video content from six dimensions and marked the men having sex with men (MSM)-related videos. To measure the video quality, DISCERN, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Benchmark Criteria, Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT) and Global Quality Scale (GQS) were used. The correlation between DISCERN classification and duration, JAMA, PEMAT and GQS scores were recorded.Results The video content was mainly about the management of the disease (mean score 1.086). Overall, the quality of videos uploaded by the non-profit organisation was relatively high. A correlation existed between each other of the JAMA, DISCERN and GQS scores (p<0.001). Moreover, they were positively correlated with video duration and PEMAT scores (p<0.001).Conclusions Although the overall quality of information about anal cancer and its precancerous lesions videos on YouTube is acceptable, it might not fully meet the health information needs of patients. Therefore, they should exercise caution when using YouTube as a source of anal cancer-related information, especially the MSM population.

    Abstract E26 transformation-specific variant 2 (ETV2), as a member of Ets family of transcription factors, plays an important role in embryonic vasculogenesis, angiogenesis and hematopoiesis. Here, based on H9 cell line and PiggyBac technology, we generated a doxycycline-inducible ETV2 (Dox-ETV2-H9) embryonic stem cell (ESC) line. The Dox-ETV2-H9 cells maintain normal morphology, karyotype as well as high expression of pluripotent markers. In comparison with previous studies that employing costly ETV2 modRNA to improve differentiation from ESCs into endothelial cells (ECs), the tet-on system in Dox-ETV2-H9 cells could precisely manipulate ETV2 expression, which enables ECs differentiation process more efficient and controllable upon addition of doxycycline.

    Abstract Due to their large number of applications, the pesticides pose potential toxicity risks to the non-target organisms. In recent years, the studies on the toxic effects of pesticides on non-target organisms, based on their gut microbiome and metabolome, have been continuously reported. As a dense and diverse microbial community, the gut microbiota in the mammalian gut plays a key role in the maintenance of host metabolic homeostasis. The imbalance in the gut microbiota of host is closely associated with the disturbance in the host's metabolic profile. A comprehensive analysis of the changes in the gut microbiota and metabolic profile of host will help in understanding the internal mechanism of pesticide-induced toxic effects. This study reviewed the composition and function of the gut microbiota of host, as well as the analysis methods and applications of metabolomics. Importantly, the latest research on the toxic effects of the exposure of pesticide to host was reviewed on the basis of changes in their gut microbiota and metabolic profile.

    Abstract Intrusions of the warm and nutrient-rich Circumpolar Deep Water (CDW) across the Ross Sea shelf break play an important role in providing heat for ice shelf basal melting and setting the physical environment for biochemical processes. Several mechanisms driving CDW intrusions into the Ross Sea were proposed such as mesoscale eddies, tidal rectification, and interactions between the Antarctic Slope Current (ASC) and topographic features. The seasonal variations in the poleward transport of CDW are investigated using ERA-Interim wind data and a Ross Sea circulation model based on the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) between September 1999 and September 2014. The analyses focus on the currents along the shelf break and deep troughs on the Ross Sea shelf and discuss the wind-driven Ekman pumping in both shelf and adjacent open ocean regions. The results reveal that the poleward intrusions generally move up onto the continental shelf along the eastern flanks of deep troughs. Seasonal variations of the ocean surface stress torque exerted by wind and sea ice in the off-shelf area are correlated with CDW intrusions. The maxima of CDW intrusions usually occur in austral summer. There is a significant temporal correlation on the seasonal time scale between the on-shelf intrusions in deep troughs in the western Ross Sea shelf and poleward Sverdrup transports in the adjacent off-shelf open ocean driven by the Ekman pumping. The analysis of ocean surface stress fields also indicates that the vorticity fluxes through the Ekman pumping are in favor of southward and northward transports in the eastern and western parts of the Ross Sea, respectively. The relationships between currents, CDW intrusions, and ocean surface stress fields imply the importance of air–sea interactions and potential climate change to the environment in the Ross Sea.

    Abstract Building load prediction is one of the important means of saving energy and reducing emissions, and accurate cold load prediction is conducive to the realization of online monitoring and the optimal control of building air conditioning systems. Therefore, a joint prediction model was proposed in this paper. Firstly, by combining the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) method with sensitivity analysis, the optimal combination of parameters that influence building cooling load (BCL) were obtained. Secondly, the parameters of the support vector machine (SVM) model were improved by using the genetic algorithm (GA), and a GA-SVM prediction model was proposed to perform building hourly cold load prediction. Then, when there is a demand for the fluctuation prediction of BCL or extreme weather conditions are encountered, the information granulation (IG) method is used to fuzzy granulate the data. At the same time, the fluctuation range of the BCL was obtained by combining the prediction of the established GA-SVM model. Finally, the model was validated with the actual operational data of a large public building in Xi’an. The results show that the CV-RMSE and MAPE of the GA-SVM model are reduced by 58.85% and 68.04%, respectively, compared with the SVM for the time-by-time BCL prediction, indicating that the optimization of the SVM by using the GA can effectively reduce the error of the prediction model. Compared with the other three widely used prediction models, the R 2 of the GA-SVM model is improved by 4.75~6.35%, the MAPE is reduced by 68.00~72.76%, and the CV-RMSE is reduced by 59.69~64.97%. This proved that the GA-SVM has higher prediction accuracy. In addition, the joint model was used for BCL fluctuation range prediction, and the R 2 of the prediction model was 97.27~99.68%, the MAPE was 2.59~2.84%, and the CV-RMSE was only 0.0249~0.0319, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the joint prediction model.     Abstract Biochar application affects the soil organic carbon (SOC) content and distribution, which is relevant to facility agriculture and soil aggregates. However, how the fertilization management of facility agriculture affects the SOC content and aggregate stability at different soil depths in Mollisols is unclear. Intended to provide a basis for developing a reasonable fertilizer amount when adding biochar, the facility vegetable eggplant in Northeast China was used to explore the effects of biochar addition on the distribution and SOC content of whole soils and the organic carbon (OC) content of aggregates of each size in the profile (0–100 cm) of Mollisols. Three treatments were set up: WF (conventional application amounts of water and fertilizer), WFB (conventional application amounts of water and fertilizer and added biochar), and 80%W80 (20% water reduction and 20% fertilizer reduction and added biochar). The results demonstrated that the 80%W80 treatment significantly increased the SOC content by 56.1% and 34.0% in whole soils at a 0–20 cm soil depth compared to WF and WFB treatments, respectively. Simultaneously, compared with WF and WFB treatments, the significant increase in the OC content of 1–0.25 mm sized aggregates of 81.4–130.2% and 4.3–10.1% and the enhanced proportion of >2 mm sized aggregates of 0.22–16.15- and 0.33–0.83-fold both improved aggregate stability in the 0–20 cm soil layer under the 80%W80 treatment, which was proven to result in 32.6% and 30.6% increments in the weight diameter (MWD) value. Therefore, biochar addition with water and fertilizer reductions increases surface soil aggregate stability for greenhouse eggplants in Mollisols.

    Abstract The Gerlache Strait plays an important role for the transports of heat, nutrients, and primary producers between the northern West Antarctic Peninsula (WAP) and the continental shelf in the southern WAP. The means, seasonal variations, and long-term trends of currents in the Gerlache Strait are analyzed based on Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data between 1999 and 2016 available from the Joint Archive for Shipboard ADCP (JASADCP) dataset. The results revealed that the mean currents between the sea surface and 300 m in the Gerlache Strait (known as the Gerlache Strait Current) were predominantly northeastward, associated with the northeastward intrusion of Modified Circumpolar Deep Water (MCDW). The variance ellipses of currents were in parallel to the principal axis of the strait. The currents reached the maximum during austral spring and summer and were minimum during austral winter. The long-term trends revealed that the mean currents were southwestward during austral fall or winter before 2005, and the northeastward currents increased between 1999 and 2011, weakened, and reversed between 2011 and 2016. The long-term shifts between warm and cold phases in the Gerlache Strait were associated with shifts between the dominance of northeastward and southwestward currents in the strait, which are respectively associated with the intrusion of warm MCDW in the south and the transport of cold water from the Bransfield Strait in the north.

    Abstract Shale gas is a promising new energy source stored in shale. This research aims to study the laws of rock crack initiation and propagation under the low-temperature fracturing of liquid nitrogen, explore the influencing factors of the shale reservoir fracturing effect, and identify the method that achieves the best fracturing effect and obtains the highest economic benefits. Herein, a visualized physical experiment of the liquid nitrogen effect is carried out, and the fracture process of a numerical model under cold shock is simulated to analyze the effect of homogeneity on shale crack propagation. The results show that two different crack development modes could be observed in the field test. The first one was the horizontal plane radial crack caused by longitudinal thermal shrinkage, and the other one was the vertical tensile crack caused by circumferential shrinkage. A certain interval length was frequently found between the horizontal cracks. The crack propagation of the specimens with different homogenization degrees was basically distributed in the direction perpendicular to the liquid nitrogen contact surface. When the homogenization degrees were m = 2 and 5, the crack surface was rough and the microfracture was disordered and dotted around the crack tip. When m ≥ 10, the dotted damage around the crack tip did not appear, and the crack propagation was close to the results obtained from using the homogeneous materials. Finally, this work simulates the fracture process of a circular hole plane model under cold shock, analyzes the influences of heat transfer coefficient, in situ stress and other parameters on shale temperature, minimum principal stress distribution, and crack propagation, and discusses the optimal method to improve the heat transfer coefficient. The results show that increasing the heat transfer coefficient can increase the tensile stress value and influence the range of the contact boundary, making the rock more prone to cracking and resulting in greater crack development and a better crack ...

    Abstract Catalytic nitrobenzene reduction is crucial for the synthesis of 4,4-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, which is used to produce polyurethane foams, thermoplastic elastomers, and adhesives. The stability and activity of nanoparticle catalysts are affected by surface ligands and stabilizers. We established the complete composition of 7.0 ± 1.1 nm iridium oxide nanoparticles that were stabilized by polyvinylpyrrolidone ( PVP[Ir] ). PVP[Ir] and its surface stabilizers were characterized using elemental analysis (EA), high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR, and UV-vis spectroscopy. Notably, PVP[Ir] contained 33.8 ± 0.4% Ir. XPS binding energy analyses suggest that 7% of the Ir is Ir(0) and 93% is IrO 2 . Using formic acid as the source of hydrogen, PVP[Ir] catalyzed the selective hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to give aniline as the only product in 66% yield in 1 h at 160 °C in a high-pressure metal reactor. Less than 1% of the side products (azobenzene and azoxybenzene) were detected. In contrast, using alcohol as the hydrogen source led to a low yield and a poor selectivity for aniline.
