Title translation Extracellular vesicles are players of the immune continuum.
Abstract Regulation of immune responses was among the first functions of extracellular vesicles to be identified, more than twenty years ago. What exactly defines the outcome of an immune response remains a challenging issue. Owing to their reduced size, extracellular vesicles easily diffuse in interstitial and lymphatic fluids, where they can interact with the multiple effectors of the immune system. By accelerating and amplifying immune interactions, these ultra-mobile units may contribute to local and systemic coordination for efficient adaption to external and internal changes. Here we introduce the related ground-breaking studies of extracellular vesicle-mediated immune effects and present ongoing considerations on their potential roles in health and the development of immune disorders.

Abstract The incidence of leishmaniasis is reported to be up to 1 million per year. To date, there has been no comprehensive review describing the diversity of clinical presentations of ocular leishmaniasis (OL) and its treatment. This systematic review aims to address this knowledge gap and provide a summary of the clinical presentation, natural course, and treatment options for OL. Our study identified a total of 57 published articles as describing cases of OL involving: adnexa (n = 26), orbit (n = 1), retina (n = 7), uvea (n = 18) and cornea (n = 6). Though well described and easily treated, palpebral leishmaniasis is often misdiagnosed and may lead to chronic issues if untreated. The retinal manifestations of Leishmaniasis consist of self-resolving hemorrhages secondary to thrombocytopenia. Two main uveitis etiologies have been identified: uveitis in the context of active Leishmanial infection (associated with immunosuppression) and uveitis occurring as an immune reconstitution syndrome. Corneal involvement in most geographic areas generally follows an aggressive course, most often ending in corneal perforation if left untreated. In the Americas, a chronic indolent interstitial keratitis may also occur. Topical steroids are of little use in keratitis (systemic antileishmanials being the cornerstone of treatment). However, these are essential in cases of uveitis, with or without concomitant systemic antileishmanial therapy. In conclusion, though ocular involvement in Leishmaniasis is rare, severe sight-threatening consequences follow if left untreated. Early diagnosis, enthusiastic follow-up and aggressive treatment are essential for good outcomes.

Abstract Background: Multiple antigenic stimulations are crucial to immune system training during early post-natal life. These stimulations can be either due to commensals, which accounts for the acquisition and maintenance of tolerance, or to pathogens, which triggers immunity. In pig, only few works previously explored the influence of natural exposition to pathogens upon immune competence. We propose herein the results of a multicentric, field study, conducted on 265 piglets exposed to contrasted pathogen levels in their living environment. Piglets were housed in 15 different commercial farms, sorted in two groups, low (HS
Results: Using animal-based measures, we compared the immune competence and growth performances of HS
Conclusions: Altogether, our data, obtained in field conditions, provide evidence that early exposure to pathogens shapes the immune competence of piglets. They also document the negative impact of an overstimulation of the immune system on piglets' growth.

Abstract Appropriate nomenclature for all pharmaceutical substances is important for clinical development, licensing, prescribing, pharmacovigilance, and identification of counterfeits. Nonproprietary names that are unique and globally recognized for all pharmaceutical substances are assigned by the International Nonproprietary Names (INN) Programme of the World Health Organization (WHO). In 1991, the INN Programme implemented the first nomenclature scheme for monoclonal antibodies. To accompany biotechnological development, this nomenclature scheme has evolved over the years; however, since the scheme was introduced, all pharmacological substances that contained an immunoglobulin variable domain were coined with the stem -

Abstract FOXP3 is a transcription factor necessary and sufficient for induction of the immunosuppressive functions in regulatory T lymphocytes. Its expression was first considered as specific of this cell type, but FOXP3 can also be transiently expressed in T-cell antigen receptor-activated human nonregulatory T cells. Recent data indicate that FOXP3 is also expressed by some nonlymphoid cells, in which it can repress various oncogenes that are restored following FOXP3 deletion or mutation. This review summarizes major advances in (1) the understanding of Foxp3 functions in human regulatory T cells, (2) the prognostic significance of Foxp3-expressing T cells in human malignancies and (3) the significance of Foxp3 expression in human tumor cells.
