    Abstract Objective: Adults may experience unmet medical needs for various reasons. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of food security on unmet medical needs according to the presence of children in the household of adults, as well as to identify the medically vulnerable group considering individual and household characteristics. Methods: This study was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 2013–2015 and 2019–2020. The subjects of the study were 23,069 adults 19 years of age or older, and were divided into two groups according to whether or not children were included in the household. In order to observe the association between food security and unmet medical needs, multiple logistic regression analysis was performed. In addition, a subgroup analysis was performed in consideration of individual and household characteristics. Results: When food security was unstable for households with children, or without children, there was a high correlation with unmet medical needs. Considering individual and household characteristics, in groups with lower age and household income level, or higher number of members in household and subjective health status, food security was strongly correlated with unmet medical needs in households with children. Contrarily, households without children showed a high correlation in the opposite characteristics of households with children, excluding household income level. Conclusion: Food security was highly correlation with unmet medical needs regardless of whether or not children were included in the household. However, according to the individual and household characteristics of households with and without children, the relationship between food security and unmet medical needs was found to be different.     Abstract Abstract Background Design of valid high-quality primers is essential for qPCR experiments. MRPrimer is a powerful pipeline based on MapReduce that combines both primer design for target sequences and homology tests on off-target sequences. It takes an entire sequence DB as input and returns all feasible and valid primer pairs existing in the DB. Due to the effectiveness of primers designed by MRPrimer in qPCR analysis, it has been widely used for developing many online design tools and building primer databases. However, the computational speed of MRPrimer is too slow to deal with the sizes of sequence DBs growing exponentially and thus must be improved. Results We develop a fast GPU-based pipeline for primer design (GPrimer) that takes the same input and returns the same output with MRPrimer. MRPrimer consists of a total of seven MapReduce steps, among which two steps are very time-consuming. GPrimer significantly improves the speed of those two steps by exploiting the computational power of GPUs. In particular, it designs data structures for coalesced memory access in GPU and workload balancing among GPU threads and copies the data structures between main memory and GPU memory in a streaming fashion. For human RefSeq DB, GPrimer achieves a speedup of 57 times for the entire steps and a speedup of 557 times for the most time-consuming step using a single machine of 4 GPUs, compared with MRPrimer running on a cluster of six machines. Conclusions We propose a GPU-based pipeline for primer design that takes an entire sequence DB as input and returns all feasible and valid primer pairs existing in the DB at once without an additional step using BLAST-like tools.     Abstract Abstract Background Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The majority of lung cancers are non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), accounting for approximately 85% of all lung cancer types. The Cox proportional hazards model (CPH), which is the standard method for survival analysis, has several limitations. The purpose of our study was to improve survival prediction in patients with NSCLC by incorporating prognostic information from F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) images into a traditional survival prediction model using clinical data. Results The multimodal deep learning model showed the best performance, with a C-index and mean absolute error of 0.756 and 399 days under a five-fold cross-validation, respectively, followed by ResNet3D for PET (0.749 and 405 days) and CPH for clinical data (0.747 and 583 days). Conclusion The proposed deep learning-based integrative model combining the two modalities improved the survival prediction in patients with NSCLC.

    Abstract Not all members are engaged in job crafting behavior in the same context, yet little research has addressed boundary conditions of daily job crafting. This study addresses these important issues and how the effects of daily job crafting vary depending on the work situation. We consider job autonomy and leader support as between-person level moderators and reveal how it affects the impact of daily job crafting on daily job satisfaction. Through the experience of the sampling method, we collected 946 days of data from 108 members (61.9% were male and 38.1% were female) for hypothesis testing. The analysis of results showed that the main effect of daily job crafting and the cross-level moderating effect of leader support were significant, and the moderating effect of job autonomy was not significant. In particular, the positive effect of daily job crafting on daily job satisfaction was strengthened for members with low leader support. These findings highlight that leader support is an important social context in job crafting, and provides insights when members can get more advantages from their daily job crafting.

    Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally. The ECG is the most commonly used tool for diagnosing cardiovascular diseases, and, recently, there are a number of attempts to use deep learning to analyze ECG. In this study, we propose a method for performing multi-label classification on standard ECG (12-lead with duration of 10 s) data. We used the ResNet model that can perform residual learning as a base model for classification in this work, and we tried to improve performance through SE-ResNet, which added squeeze and excitation blocks on the plain ResNet. As a result of the experiment, it was possible to induce overall performance improvement through squeeze and excitation blocks. In addition, the random k -labelsets (RAKEL) algorithm was applied to improve the performance in multi-label classification problems. As a result, the model that applied soft voting through the RAKEL algorithm to SE-ResNet-34 represented the best performance, and the average performances according to the number of label divisions k were achieved 0.99%, 88.49%, 92.43%, 90.54%, and 93.40% in exact match, accuracy, F1-score, precision, and recall, respectively.

    Abstract Palm oil is one of the most common and productive vegetable oils, so it is often used as an excellent feedstock for biodiesel production. However, due to the high viscosity and other issues of palm oil, it cannot be directly used as an alternative fuel for diesel engines unless some treatment is carried out. In this study, the effects of palm oil-diesel blend fuel on the nitrogen oxides (NOx)–smoke trade-off characteristics were investigated in a common rail direct injection (CRDI) diesel engine under various injection pressures and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rates. It was found that NOx and smoke from the combustion of fuel containing 50% palm oil (P50D50) were simultaneously suppressed by 3% and 3.1% compared with diesel fuel at an injection pressure of 400 bar, respectively. The performance of P50D50 was comparable to that of diesel, but at high injection pressure and high EGR rate, it showed shorter ignition delay (ID) and lower smoke emission.

    Abstract Abstract Pilot balloon palpation is still a commonly used method to evaluate cuff pressure of the endotracheal tube after intubation. This study determined whether the size of the tracheal tube influenced the accuracy of pilot balloon palpation. A prospective observational analysis of 208 patients intubated with an endotracheal tube of internal diameter (ID) 6.0 or 8.0 was conducted. An anesthesiologist judged the cuff pressure by manual pilot balloon palpation, and then measured the cuff pressure with a pressure gauge. Cuff pressure exceeding 20–30 cmH2O was defined as false recognition. The intracuff pressure was significantly higher in ID 6.0 tube than in the ID 8.0 tube (41.9 ± 18.8 cmH2O vs. 30.3 ± 11.9 cmH2O, p < 0.001). The number of patients that were mistakenly perceived to have appropriate cuff pressure by pilot balloon palpation was significantly higher in the ID 6.0 group compared to the ID 8.0 group (85 (81.7%) vs. 64 (61.5%), p = 0.001). Therefore, a smaller tube size may further increase risk of inaccurate measurement by pilot balloon palpation and although pressure gauge is recommended for all sizes to maximize accuracy, groups with increased risk factors should be targeted for standardized use of the pressure gauge.

    Abstract Typhoons, which are a common natural disaster in Korea, have seen a rapid increase in annual economic losses over the past decade. The objective of this study was to utilize historical crop insurance records to predict fruit drop rates caused by typhoons from 2016 to 2021. A total of 1848 datasets for the fruit drop rate were generated based on the impact of 24 typhoons on 77 cities with typhoon damage histories. Three different types of measures—the average value, the maximum or minimum value, and the value at a specific point during the typhoon—were applied to four meteorological factors, yielding a total of twelve variables used as model inputs. The predictive performance of the proposed models was compared using five evaluation metrics, and SHAP analysis was employed to assess the contribution of predictor variables to the model output. The most significant variable in explaining the vulnerability to typhoons was found to be the maximum wind speed. The categorical boosting model outperformed the other models in all evaluation metrics, except for the mean absolute error. The proposed model will assist in estimating the potential crop loss caused by typhoons, thereby aiding in the establishment of mitigation strategies for the main crop-producing areas.

    Abstract Whereas past research on daily job crafting has tended to focus on how job crafting affected employee behaviors, we extend this study by examining the antecedents of job crafting and cross-level moderators such as leader-member exchange (LMX) and resilience. Using experience-sampling methodology, we examined the within-person level relationship between positive affect and job crafting as well as the moderating role of individuals’ LMX and resilience on this relationship. Finally, 105 employees completed surveys over 10 days. Results of hierarchical linear models revealed that daily positive affect was positively associated with job crafting. Also, results revealed moderating effects of LMX: the relation between positive affect and job crafting strengthened when employees had low-quality LMX relationship.
