    Abstract O presente estudo analisou a produção do espaço e territorialidades na praia do Perequê Açú, no município de Ubatuba, litoral norte do estado de São Paulo, tendo como objetivo discutir as transformações socioespaciais e econômicas sofridas pelo grupo tradicional caiçara-pescador. Optou-se por um método de abordagem etnográfica, de pesquisa qualitativa e exploratória, com aplicação de entrevista dirigida com as principais lideranças do passado e do presente envolvidas na transformação da localidade de Pereque-Açu, bem como turistas (90 entrevistados) nos meses de janeiro e julho de 2019 e janeiro de 2020. Os resultados indicaram da atividade turística bem como da especulação imobiliária de segunda residência no contexto de manutenção da cultura caiçara, que sendo subjugada, deslocou-se para uma zona periférica onde luta por sua sobrevivência sem o apoio do estado. A manutenção da cultura caiçara é necessária para a proteção deste patrimônio imaterial bem como para a sobrevivência da identidade local.

    Abstract Dengue is a vector borne disease caused by virus serotypes DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4, representing a significant public health concern in the Region of the Americas (2,997,097 cases in 2023). This study explores the relationship between dengue incidence and climate changes in the city of São Paulo-Brazil. During the first semester of 2023, Brazil reported the highest number of dengue cases in Americas’ Region. Our data reveals a correlation between the high temperature and rainfall season persistence and the extension of dengue incidence into the winter season. The findings highlight the importance of understanding the relationship between climate change and disease transmission patterns to develop effective strategies for prevention and control.

    Abstract Abstract This study comprised the application of a survey in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2 different periods of 2020: the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic and the disease’s first peak (from March to April, 100 interviews) to the time of stability in case fatality rates (from May to July, 100 interviews); the questionnaire included was composed of 14 multiple-choice questions to evaluate the importance of mass communication channels, including social media, and the level of importance attributed to preventive measures at the beginning of the pandemic. The changes in people’s behavior, even in a group with more schooling, which initially considered preventive measures to be very important (91%) but, in the second survey, was reduced to 82%. The reinforcement of preventive measures to reduce cases and deaths by covid-19 in Brazil is urgent, allied to recommendations with clear information on the importance of vaccination to avoid low rates as the current situation of vaccine coverage for preventable diseases.

    Abstract O aumento do turismo estrangeiro que ocorre na cidade de São Paulo reflete na diversificação dos inumeros meios de hospedagem. O hostel apresenta-se como opção turística econômica e que atende, principalmente, a uma parcela jovem dos turistas estrangeiros. Dessa forma, para se atender com melhores condições os hóspedes que visitam as localidades, deve-se estabelecer uma comunicação eficaz e satisfatória. O propõe um estudo do atendimento bilíngue em hostels. O método da pesquisa caracteriza-se como um estudo qualitativo. As abordagens utilizadas foram: exploratória, no intuito de levantar informações em documentos oficiais, e descritiva, com o objetivo de traçar um panorama atual dos hostels da cidade. O trabalho iniciou-se com a busca por hostels melhores avaliações, a partir de consultas nos quatro sites de hospedagens mais populares no país. A pesquisa foi realizada no mês de agosto de 2019. Dentro desse período, seis estabelecimentos participaram do estudo. Os resultados apontam que os hostels se consideram preparados para atender a esse público. Por fim, observa-se que um bom atendimento e comunicação visual bilíngue pode proporcionar acessibilidade na cidade e acarretar em maior número de turistas internacionais que buscam por um ambiente harmonioso e experiências interpessoais, o que promove trocas culturais, assim como incentivo para a cidade se tornar cada vez mais acessível a todos os povos.

    Abstract O aumento do turismo estrangeiro refletiu na maior diversificação dos meios de hospedagem na cidade de São Paulo. Entre esses equipamentos, o hostel se apresenta como opção turística econômica e que atende, principalmente, a uma parcela jovem desses turistas estrangeiros. Dessa forma, o planejamento e o controle das operações em hostels se tornam ferramentas de gestão para atender melhor o turista. Este trabalho propõe uma análise qualitativa com abordagem exploratória e descritiva, com o objetivo de traçar um panorama atual dos hostels paulistanos. Os resultados demonstraram que um eficaz planejamento das operações, assim como uma hospitalidade diferencial pode proporcionar acessibilidade na cidade e propiciar maior número de turistas nacionais e internacionais, que buscam por um ambiente harmonioso e experiências interpessoais, o que promove mais trocas culturais, bem como incentivo para a cidade se tornar mais agradável em meio a um ambiente ultra urbanizado e apático. Percebe-se que os hostels em questão utilizam o que há de mais atual no que se refere à gestão de suas operações com fins de fidelização de clientes, sem perder a característica de um hostel, que é ser um ambiente acolhedor, no qual é possível trocar experiências únicas, como: cultura e empatia, por exemplo.

    Abstract Introduction: Emerging countries have increased their presence in international travel (46.8% of travels). Pre- and post-travel consultations may provide insights about travelers’ health. Methods: A retrospective descriptive analysis of the medical data of all travelers assisted at Ambulatório dos Viajantes, a free public health clinic for travelers in São Paulo, Brazil, from January to December 2016 was performed. The patients were profiled based on post-travel consultation data and screened by gender, age according to the United Nations working-age population distribution (0-14 years, children; 15-24 years, youths; 25-65 years, working age; over 65 years, older persons), travel destination, and diseases that affected travelers. Results: In 2016 (n=280 appointments), 93.92% of clients received some type of vaccine (regular or booster dose). Post-travel consultations (n=27; 9.64%) were predominantly male (62.96% of appointments) and comprised cases of malaria (44.4%; 6 positive cases of Plasmodium falciparum , 4 positive cases of Plasmodium vivax, and 2 unclassified), fever (7.4%), AGE - acute gastroenteritis (7.4%), hepatitis A (3.7%), nausea (3.7%), insect bite (3.7%), abdominal pain (3.7%), arthralgia (3.7%), vaginal discharge (3.7%), and cases under investigation (18.5%). Brazilian travelers presented the same incidence of post-travel counseling as developed countries’ travel medicine clinics (~9%). Conclusion: Immunization in pre-travel counseling may reduce the importation of preventable infectious diseases and increase Brazilians’ traveler vaccine coverage, a current concern in the country.

    Abstract We report a patient with a mucocele with diffuse wall thickening diagnosed by transabdominal ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography. Transabdominal ultrasonography showed diffuse thickening of the entire appendix wall and an anechoic area that appeared to be fluid collected throughout the appendix lumen. However, the “onion skin sign” was not detected. Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography combined with superb microvascular imaging revealed abundant mucosal blood flow and no abnormal vascular network within the mucosa of the appendix wall. We preoperatively diagnosed a mucocele complicated by acute and chronic appendicitis, and ileocecal resection was performed. Macroscopic and microscopic findings of the resected specimens demonstrated that the appendiceal wall was diffusely thickened, with fibrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration, and that the appendiceal root rumen was narrowed with epithelial hyperplasia. No neoplastic changes were observed. The cause of the appendiceal mucocele was likely fibrosis and stenosis at the root of the appendix due to initial acute appendicitis.
