Abstract A 54-year-old man was admitted for fever and dyspnea. He presented with severe COVID-19 pneumonia and elevated amylase and lipase levels. He received treatment for COVID-19 and possible acute pancreatitis (AP). Although pneumonia and amylase levels improved, a high-grade fever persisted. On day 39, abdominal CT revealed heterogenous liquid and non-liquid components with a well-defined wall around the pancreas, and he was diagnosed with infected walled-off necrosis (WON) after AP. It was concluded to be associated with COVID-19 because there were no identifiable causes, such as alcohol consumption, gallstones, or other viral infections. The necrotic collection and fever improved after endoscopic transgastric drainage and necrosectomy. SARS-CoV-2 is becoming recognized as a new etiological infectious factor for AP, and COVID-19-associated AP shows higher severity and mortality. Clinicians should evaluate COVID-19 patients for concomitant AP, and if it is present, they should carefully monitor the development of local complications, including WON.

Abstract This study aims to provide an overview of the service system view (SSV), and the current status of its adoption for the development and implementation of assistive technology (AT). The role of ATs in the global aging scenario is anticipated; however, their diffusion is cumbersome. The SSV captures stakeholders, technologies, and their interactions as integrated systems. Based on this perspective, several approaches for designing long-term care services have been proposed that would be helpful for the successful implementation of ATs. However, the existing geriatrics and gerontology literature seldom addresses these topics. Based on a literature review, this study first illustrates the challenges of using ATs in the real world. The existing literature highlights the sociotechnical challenges of utilizing ATs, such as the changes required in care work and resistance to them. To overcome the challenges, three approaches associated with the SSV have been introduced: service design, service engineering and living labs. This paper also introduces recent national projects in Japan that have adopted these approaches. As the importance of the SSV is growing for the successful implementation of ATs, the ability to adopt the SSV and its approaches is anticipated. In relation to geriatrics and gerontology studies, the impact on older adults' quality of life, as well as the economic effect, needs to be analyzed in future research. Abstract Background: Care of patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) commonly includes offering guidance on diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors, but there is little information available on the actual lifestyles of FGID sufferers.
Methods: An internet questionnaire survey of 15,000 adult members of the general public in Japan who were screened for functional dyspepsia (FD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) using the Rome III adult FGID questionnaire was conducted.
Key results: The prevalence of FD and IBS was 6.5% and 14.0%, respectively, and 3.0% of the subjects met the criteria for both FD and IBS. The prevalence of both FD and IBS was higher in women than in men. The lifestyles of 2,547 subjects who met the Rome III criteria for FD, IBS, or both were compared with the lifestyles of 1,000 control subjects who did not meet the criteria for FD or the criteria for IBS. Compared to the control subjects, a significantly lower percentage of subjects with FD, IBS, or both exercised frequently, and a significantly higher percentage thought that their sleep was insufficient, ate meals irregularly, did not have an appetite, did not like meat, thought that their vegetable consumption was insufficient, felt stress in their daily lives, and regarded themselves as being highly susceptible to stress.
Conclusions & inferences: Persons with FGIDs are affected by impairment of sleep, eating habits, diet, exercise and other lifestyle factors, and feel excessive stress. This suggests that offering lifestyle guidance to FGID patients may be useful.
