    Abstract The paper explores the potential of the satellite advanced differential synthetic aperture radar interferometry (A-DInSAR) technique for the identification of impending slope failure. The advantages and limitations of satellite InSAR in monitoring pre-failure landslide behaviour are addressed in five different case histories back-analysed using data acquired by different satellite missions: Montescaglioso landslide (2013, Italy), Scillato landslide (2015, Italy), Bingham Canyon Mine landslide (2013, UT, USA), Big Sur landslide (2017, CA, USA) and Xinmo landslide (2017, China). This paper aimed at providing a contribution to improve the knowledge within the subject area of landslide forecasting using monitoring data, in particular exploring the suitability of satellite InSAR for spatial and temporal prediction of large landslides. The study confirmed that satellite InSAR can be successful in the early detection of slopes prone to collapse; its limitations due to phase aliasing and low sampling frequency are also underlined. According to the results, we propose a novel landslide predictability classification discerning five different levels of predictability by satellite InSAR. Finally, the big step forward made for landslide forecasting applications since the beginning of the first SAR systems (ERS and Envisat) is shown, highlighting that future perspectives are encouraging thanks to the expected improvement of upcoming satellite missions that could highly increase the capability to monitor landslides’ pre-failure behaviour.

    Abstract Thermal neutron detection is a key subject for nuclear physics research and also in a wide variety of applications from homeland security to nuclear medicine. In this work, it is proposed a novel flexible and conformable composite thermal neutron scintillator based on a fully enriched Lithium Tetraborate preparation ([Formula: see text]Li[Formula: see text]B[Formula: see text]O[Formula: see text]) combined with a phosphorescent inorganic scintillator powder (ZnS:Ag), and is then distributed into a polydimethylsiloxane matrix. The proposed scintillator shows a good neutron detection efficiency (max. [Formula: see text] 57% with respect to the commercial EJ-420), an average light output of [Formula: see text] 9000 ph/neutron-capture, a remarkable insensitivity to [Formula: see text]-rays (Gamma Rejection Ratio <10[Formula: see text]), and an extraordinary flexibility, so as to reach extremely small curvature radii, down to 1.5 mm, with no signs of cracking or tearing. Its characteristics make it suitable to be employed in scenarios where non-standard geometries are needed, for example, to optimize the detector performance and/or maximize the detection efficiency. Finally, the response of a hybrid detector made of a plastic scintillator, wrapped with the proposed scintillator, coupled to a silicon photomultiplier array is described, and the excellent discrimination between [Formula: see text]-rays, fast and thermal neutrons resulting from data processing is demonstrated.

    Abstract The artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) implantation is an effective treatment of post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence (PPI). Still, it may result in troublesome complications such as intraoperative urethral lesion and postoperative erosion. Based on the multilayered structure of the tunica albuginea of the corpora cavernosa, we evaluated an alternative transalbugineal surgical technique of AUS cuff placement with the aim to decrease perioperative morbidity while preserving the integrity of the corpora cavernosa. A retrospective study was conducted in a tertiary referral center from September 2012 to October 2021, including 47 consecutive patients undergoing AUS (AMS800

    Abstract A 48-year-old man with a medical history of hypertension and no family history of prostate cancer presented with abdominal distension, lower abdominal pain, and lower urinary symptoms. Physical examination revealed a palpable mass in the lower abdomen, and a digital rectal examination detected a firm mass on the anterior side of the rectum. Laboratory tests showed an elevated PSA level (7.9 ng/mL). Imaging studies indicated a solid mass connected to the prostate's posterior and rectum's anterior walls, along with bladder compression. Transperitoneal biopsy and histological analysis led to a diagnosis of a stromal tumor with uncertain potential malignancy. Considering the absence of apparent malignancy signs and the smooth outer wall of the tumor, the patient underwent, for the first time in the literature, a robot-assisted radical extraperitoneal prostatectomy for complete macroscopic resection. The surgery involved excision of the bulky pelvic mass, preservation of the urethra, and anatomical reconstruction. The postoperative course was uneventful, and we discharged the patient with no complications. The pathological examination documented the diagnosis of multilocular prostatic cystadenoma. Post-surgery follow-up examinations, including PSA levels and imaging scans, showed no signs of tumor recurrence. At the 3-, 6-, and 9-month follow-ups, the patient was asymptomatic and had fully recovered, with no urinary or sexual dysfunction reported.

    Abstract Purposes: Little research exists on potential learning curve for male sling procedures. We aimed to perform a learning curve analysis of a single surgeon's experience of sling placement evaluating multiple outcomes and using the cumulative sum failure methodology.
    Methods: The study included 65 consecutive patients that underwent implantation of a fixed transobturator sling (TiLOOP Male) for post-radical prostatectomy stress incontinence at our institution from January 2013 to December 2018. Dichotomous outcomes evaluated with cumulative sum failure analysis included 12-months continence defined based on Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) questionnaire (primary outcome), 24 h pad test and, 24 h pad use, operative time (⩽/>60 min), and complications (yes/no). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association of the procedures' chronological sequence number with the outcomes.
    Results: Cumulative sum failure curves revealed a clear and lengthy learning curve effect for most of subjective and quantitative continence outcomes and for operative time. For the primary outcome (at least much improved at PGI-I), 62 procedures were required to overcome the learning curve. Accordingly, multivariate analyses showed that the sequence number was statistically significant for predicting failures based on PGI-I (adjusted OR 0.95; 95% CI: 0.91-0.99;
    Conclusions: An evident and lengthy learning curve was observed in our series of male sling placement to achieve the end level of proficiency, independently from case-mix. Individualized structured training on male sling surgery will benefit patients treated in the initial surgeon's experience. Surgical experience should be considered when reporting studies on male slings.

    Abstract Purpose: We aimed to accurately determine ureteral stricture (US) rates following urolithiasis treatments and their related risk factors.
    Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis following the PRISMA guidelines using databases from inception to November 2023. Studies were deemed eligible for analysis if they included ≥ 18 years old patients with urinary lithiasis (Patients) who were subjected to endoscopic treatment (Intervention) with ureteroscopy (URS), percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), or shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) (Comparator) to assess the incidence of US (Outcome) in prospective and retrospective studies (Study design).
    Results: A total of 43 studies were included. The pooled US rate was 1.3% post-SWL and 2.1% post-PCNL. The pooled rate of US post-URS was 1.9% but raised to 2.7% considering the last five years' studies and 4.9% if the stone was impacted. Moreover, the pooled US rate differed if follow-ups were under or over six months. Patients with proximal ureteral stone, preoperative hydronephrosis, intraoperative ureteral perforation, and impacted stones showed higher US risk post-endoscopic intervention with odds ratio of 1.6 (P = 0.05), 2.6 (P = 0.009), 7.1 (P < 0.001), and 7.47 (P = 0.003), respectively.
    Conclusions: The overall US rate ranges from 0.3 to 4.9%, with an increasing trend in the last few years. It is influenced by type of treatment, stone location and impaction, preoperative hydronephrosis and intraoperative perforation. Future standardized reporting and prospective and more extended follow-up studies might contribute to a better understanding of US risks related to calculi treatment.

    Abstract We designed a retrospective study to assess the surgical and economic outcomes of robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RALP) compared with open pyeloplasty (OP), including consecutive patients suffering from ureteropelvic junction obstruction and operated on from January 2012 to January 2022 at a single center. Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative outcomes, including costs, were comparatively analyzed. The primary outcome was 3-month success, defined as symptom resolution and no obstruction upon diuretic renal scintigraphy. Overall, 91 patients were included (48 OP and 43 RALP). The success rate at 3 months was 93.0% and 83.3% in the RALP and OP group, respectively (
