Abstract Most measures of agreement are chance-corrected. They differ in three dimensions: their definition of chance agreement, their choice of disagreement function, and how they handle multiple raters. Chance agreement is usually defined in a pairwise manner, following either Cohen's kappa or Fleiss's kappa. The disagreement function is usually a nominal, quadratic, or absolute value function. But how to handle multiple raters is contentious, with the main contenders being Fleiss's kappa, Conger's kappa, and Hubert's kappa, the variant of Fleiss's kappa where agreement is said to occur only if every rater agrees. More generally, multi-rater agreement coefficients can be defined in a g-wise way, where the disagreement weighting function uses g raters instead of two. This paper contains two main contributions. (a) We propose using Fréchet variances to handle the case of multiple raters. The Fréchet variances are intuitive disagreement measures and turn out to generalize the nominal, quadratic, and absolute value functions to the case of more than two raters. (b) We derive the limit theory of g-wise weighted agreement coefficients, with chance agreement of the Cohen-type or Fleiss-type, for the case where every item is rated by the same number of raters. Trying out three confidence interval constructions, we end up recommending calculating confidence intervals using the arcsine transform or the Fisher transform.

Abstract Several measures of agreement, such as the Perreault-Leigh coefficient, the [Formula: see text], and the recent coefficient of van Oest, are based on explicit models of how judges make their ratings. To handle such measures of agreement under a common umbrella, we propose a class of models called guessing models, which contains most models of how judges make their ratings. Every guessing model have an associated measure of agreement we call the knowledge coefficient. Under certain assumptions on the guessing models, the knowledge coefficient will be equal to the multi-rater Cohen's kappa, Fleiss' kappa, the Brennan-Prediger coefficient, or other less-established measures of agreement. We provide several sample estimators of the knowledge coefficient, valid under varying assumptions, and their asymptotic distributions. After a sensitivity analysis and a simulation study of confidence intervals, we find that the Brennan-Prediger coefficient typically outperforms the others, with much better coverage under unfavorable circumstances.

Abstract Socially constructed gender norms influence people's access to, and experience of, healthcare. Gender norms can negatively affect the health of women, men and people with other gender identities, such as transgender or non-binary individuals. Person-centred care and shared decision-making, which are widely recognised as essential aspects of healthcare, could be effective approaches for enhancing gender equality in healthcare for women. However, many women appear to receive suboptimal person-centred care. Additionally, there is a lack of representation of diverse gender identities in research, as well as a lack of awareness of diverse gender identities among nurses and other healthcare professionals. To enhance gender equality in healthcare for women, nurses and nursing students should be encouraged to reflect on their unconscious biases and adopt a stance of cultural curiosity, while organisations need to improve preregistration and post-registration training on equality and diversity.

Abstract Introduction: Frequent exercise is known to be associated with better physical and mental health outcomes in all age groups. Vermillion, South Dakota, has no easily accessible way for senior citizens to exercise in groups safely. Clinical observations suggested the hypothesis that senior citizens living independently would benefit both physically and mentally from a tri-weekly chair-based exercise program.
Methods: Twenty-three individuals between the ages of 58-88 from Vermillion were enlisted in this study. Each participant was part of a chair-based exercise class for senior citizens that focused on strengthening the legs, back, and core. Various measurements were taken upon entry into the class and every three months following entry, with the final measurement being six months from the first. Measurements included blood pressure, heart rate, weight, handgrip strength, Tinetti Balance and gait scores, and geriatric depression scale. Data were divided into three groups: Period 1 (measurements on initial entry into the class), Period 2 (measurements three months after an individual has entered the class), and Period 3 (measurements six months after an individual has entered the class). Tukey's multiple comparison test and single factor ANOVA were used for analysis.
Results: There were no statistically significant differences in any measurements over time. This is true both when comparing all values for each period to one another and when comparing values only of participants who completed all three measurement periods. For participants that attended the class long enough to have all three measurements, there was an average weight loss of 8.56 lbs. Geriatric depression scale scores were also trending toward improvement, with the initial mean score being 1.2 and the final score being 0.8. Any score above 4 is concerning for depression so the closer to zero the better.
Conclusions: The data failed to support the hypothesis. The study shows no statistically significant change in measurements taken at initial visit, three months, or six months into the exercise course. Out of 23 participants, only 16 joined early enough to take the three-month measurements, and only five joined early to take the six-month measurements. The trend of participant weight loss and improved Geriatric depression scale scores suggests that if a larger sample size were to participate in the course and stay for all measurements, there might be statistically significant results. Future studies looking to replicate should incentivize increased duration of participation, and they should also track each individual participant's number of sessions attended to use as another variable.

Abstract I add support to Phillips et al.'s thesis that representations of knowledge are more basic than representations of belief through a historical account of the development of philosophical theories of knowledge and belief. On the basis of Aristotle's criticisms of his Presocratic predecessors, I argue that Western philosophy developed theories of knowledge long before it developed theories of belief.
