Abstract This study examined the management of North-East Moroccan physicians of menopause. The poll was carried out on a representative sample of physicians in the Nador region. The sample included gynecologists and general practitioner physicians in both public and private medical sectors. The survey contained focused and open-ended questions on the good knowledge or not of physicians about menopause, their patient population, their prescribing practices, their perceptions, and the different medical approaches to managing the symptoms of menopause. Among the general practitioners interviewed, only 16% of physicians are very knowledgeable about the management of menopause and only 3 physicians have followed continuous training. The others have mainly acquired their information from the internet, medical journals, and scientific magazines. Only one-third of physicians interviewed prescribe menopausal hormonal treatment in this region. The treatment is mainly prescribed to cope with hot flashes (97.1%) and menstrual cycle disruption (85.7%). Others are in favor of non-hormonal treatments and advise women to change their bad daily habits to relieve symptoms. In this region of Morocco, hormonal treatment for menopause is not very common and the majority of general practitioners are not familiar with menopause.

Abstract This study aimed to assess the extent of eutrophication in the Marchica lagoon, using the trophic index (TRIX), trophic status index (TSI) and Redfield ratio (N/P). Seawater samples were collected monthly from March 2018 to February 2019 from ten locations in the lagoon. The TRIX index ranged from 1.25 to 8.87, indicating oligotrophic to eutrophic conditions. TSI values ranged from 28.4 to 65.1, indicating ultraoligotrophic to supereutrophic seawater. The Redfield ratio consistently showed N/P values below 16, designating phosphorus as the limiting factor for algal growth. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) revealed distinct coastal water masses based on seasons and sampling regions. Given these findings, urgent conservation and management measures are recommended to address the eutrophication issues threatening the delicate balance of the Marchica lagoon.

Abstract The present work reports the application to reduction of the organic matter and nutrients in oil mill liquid waste (OMW), using the natural calcium bentonite from Morocco as adsorbent. The margine is characterized by a high concentration of low biodegradable and highly toxic organic matter. In order to evaluated the reduction capacity of bentonite to remove organic matter and nutrients, characterization mineralogical, chemical and also morphological of adsorbent were conducted. During the experiment and in the scenarios studied, all the total of parameters adsorbed was strongly depend on the percentage of bentonite. While, the percentage of pH of OMW was gradually decreased from 4.03 to 8. 04. The COD concentrations were decreased from 172.72 to 29.71 g/l, and also the phosphorus concentrations were decreased from 1.16 to 0.29 g/l. The electrical conductivity decrease in this work from 16.93 to 0.17 mS/cm. This present work proves that calcium bentonite is an effective adsorbent for the elimination the nutrients and organic compound.

Abstract Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), grown in saline soils, exhibit reduced yield quantity and quality which may be alleviated with the use of biostimulants. These materials can be applied to roots, foliage or seed and are designed for a specific action and target a particular stage of plant development. Tecamin Flower® (TF) and Tecamin Brix® (TB) are foliar biostimulants formulated to improve flowering and fruit quality. The biostimulants were used separately, or in combination, to determine their effects on tomato yield quantity and quality. Tecamin Brix® applied alone, or in combination with Tecamin Flower®, resulted in higher yield. Both biostimulants increased fruit quality, with the highest levels of firmness, total soluble solids, pigment and pH obtained with joint application of Tecamin Brix® and Tecamin Flower®. The combined application of Tecamin Brix® and Tecamin Flower® might be effective in improving tomato fruit yield and quality, especially in soils with high salt concentrations.

Abstract Microgreens are receiving increasing attention due to their high content of bioactive components and their importance to human health. These emerging food products can be obtained from the seeds of different plant species, including aromatic herbs. Aromatic microgreens are gaining popularity as new functional food products. In this study, we investigated the effects of different light-emitting diode (LED) lamp spectra on the growth, pigments, nitrates, and osmoprotectant content of microgreens of Ocimum basilicum L., Trigonella foenum-graecum, Anethum graveolens, and Anthriscus cerefolium plants. Three types of artificial LED lamps were used: T0 as artificial white light, T1 as a continuous light-emitting diode with a longer blue wavelength, and T2 as a continuous light-emitting diode with a longer red wavelength. The results obtained showed that the three types of LED light had significant effects on the different parameters studied. In relation to growth parameters, such as fresh weight (FW) and microgreen height (H), the T2 treatment was most effective for fenugreek, dill, and chervil. However, in basil plants, FW and H values were higher under T1 treatment. Regarding nitrate accumulation, both T1 and T2 treatments reduced the content of this nutrient in the different species studied here. Finally, levels of chlorophyll, carotenoid, glucose, proline, and proteins were all higher in plants cultivated under T1 and T2 treatments than in control plants.

Abstract Concentration of Copper, Lithium and Manganese were determined in the whole soft tissues of Mytilus galloprovincialis, collected from the two sites (Bni Ansar and Kariat Arekmane) of the Marchica lagoon of Morocco. The mussels were sampled on December and July of 2019. The ability of mussels to accumulate metals was arranged in the following order: Li < Cu < Mn. The levels of heavy metals in M. galloprovincialis were higher (P<0.05) in December (7.38, 2.63 and 11.10 mg/kg d.w., for Cu, Li and Mn, respectively) than July (5.56, 1.85 and 7.24 mg/kg d.w., for Cu, Li and Mn, respectively) because of the environmental parameters of the seawater and the physiological status of the animal. The trends of accumulations of investigated metals in mussel were higher (P < 0.05) in samples from Bni Ansar than from Kariat Arekmane sites, because of the urban and industrial discharge that submitted the zone of lagoon near to the Bni Ansar city. The Mn concentration in the mussel exceeded the acceptable guidelines limits indicated by international organization, which suggests that consumption of bivalves represents a threat to human health. The studied mussel is suitable biomonitors to investigate heavy metals contamination in the coastal area of the Moroccan Mediterranean coasts.

Abstract Our study was based on using a freshwater aquatic species to assess the short-and long-term toxicity of an organophosphate insecticide commonly adopted by the Moroccan agriculture sector. Recently, groundwater pollution has emerged as one of the most severe environmental challenges, with a particular emphasis on levels of heavy metal pollution. Conservation efforts and efficient management of groundwater resources are required to determine the full scope of this damage. The current research answers the physical-chemical evaluation of the middle Kert basin’s water quality (Mediterranean area, Driouch province, Eastern Morocco) by collecting 42 samples and measuring pH, TDS that vary between 451 and 5841 mg/l, and EC that range from 0.72 to 9.41mS/cm2 according to ISO 5665. The samples were analyzed by ICP-MS and flame atomic absorption spectrometry to detect fluoride and arsenic content. Whose fluoride in the survey area varied from 0.01 mg/l to 2.85 mg/l. The hydro-chemical classification resulting from the Geographic Information System (GIS) statistical data analysis was used to interpret the analytical data on the phenomena responsible for the mineralization. This quantity is considerably higher than the maximum allowable level of 1.5 mg/L, which is the regulation for drinking water in Morocco. It indicates that both natural and artificial factors have contributed to the effects. Most stations have a fluoride concentration in the water, which can be used to identify them. It is a significant amount less than the values that would be ideal; just four wells have concentrations higher than the values that are legally allowed to be. The fluoride levels in the region’s water sources directly result from the natural elements that make up this particular geographic location. The same happened for arsenic, which exceeded 0.1 mg/l in just two samples.

Abstract Eutrophication of littoral seawater is estimated to be one of the main threats to marine biota. Therefore, continuous monitoring is necessary to define areas of potential risk. Our work is an essay to explore the possibility of applying the trophic state index (TRIX) to assess the state of eutrophication along the eastern coast of the Moroccan Mediterranean (Ras Kabdana-Saïdia) in concert with a number of hydro chemical parameters and nutrients descriptors aimed at selection of relevant indicators of marine coastal area ecological quality. Seawater samples were studied monthly during 2018. The following environmental parameters have been considered: temperature, salinity, pH, suspended matter, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, saturation levels, nitrite, nitrate, and orthophosphate. Principal Component Analysis was applied in order to figure out and score the most relevant combination of parameters to discriminate between sites and select representative descriptors (pressure/state) of eutrophication. The following variables are defined as relevant descriptors for classification of the sites: nutrients (N, P) and their molar ratios (N/P), the capacity of the system to produce and sustain organic matter (chlorophyll a), and the trophic state index (TRIX). The results show TRIX values below 4, the eutrophication range indicated that there is no ecological risk. The Ras Kabdana-Saïdia is located in an oligotrophic state.
