Abstract The patient-physician relationship is an issue that includes mutual rights in medical ethics. Patient rights is one of the sub-topics of human rights that has defined and developed in the last century. In this study, it was aimed to measure the knowledge level of physicians in Samsun province about patient rights. The study is a descriptive, cross-sectional and analytical study with a prospective survey prepared by literature review to measure the knowledge level of physicians about patient rights in Samsun. The data measurement tool includes questions measuring demographic data and knowledge level and was filled with face-to-face interviews with physicians who agreed to participate in the study. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data. The study was conducted with 287 physicians. 49.5% of the participants in the study reported that they received training on patient rights. Abstract This study aimed to examine the effects of the assault on mental health with the time since the event of sexual assault, the characteristics of the perpetrator and the victim, and psychiatric diagnoses. A retrospective examination was made of the records of 105 cases of sexual assault of all age groups, who were referred for forensic psychiatric examination by the forensic authorities between 1 January 2012 and 30 December 2017 to the Inonu University Medical Faculty Health Committee for the Determination of Sexual Abuse/Assault Crimes. In the examination, the characteristics of the abuse, the type of sexual assault and effects on mental health, psychiatric diagnoses of the victim after the event, and psychiatric diagnoses made after examination by the committee were evaluated retrospectively. The 105 cases examined comprised 83 (79%) females and 22 (21%) males with a mean age of 14.3±7.4 years, and 22 (21%) cases aged ≥18 years. The types of sexual assault were non-penetrative assault in 56 (53.3%) cases and penetrative assault in 49 (46.7%). Mental health impairment at a level that impaired functionality was determined in 52 (49.5%) cases and at a level that did not impair functionality in 53 (50.5%) cases. It seems to be inevitable that mental health is affected following sexual assault. Moreover, a mental disorder at a level that will impair the functionality of the victim may emerge with the passage of time since the sexual assault and the degree of this impairment may only be revealed with examinations made after a certain time. Abstract To examine the clinical and demographic characteristics of forensic home accidents and fatal injuries. Hospital and forensic records were examined and patients aged ≤16 years, referred to our hospital after a home accident, were included in the study. The age, gender, type of injury, injured body area, month of accident, outcome, and department of admission were recorded for each patient. Then, the forensic records were examined and the cases were divided into two groups as those with and without fatal injuries. The characteristics of the two groups were compared using the chi-square test, and the statistical differences were determined. In a three-year period, a total of 453 home accidents considered to be forensic cases were identified. The mortality rate was calculated as 1.8%, and according to the forensic reports, 33.3% of the cases had fatal injuries. While blunt traumas were most common with a rate of 54.1%, burn injuries were found to be most fatal (p [Med-Science 2020; 9(4.000): 1032-5]

Abstract The aim of this study was to examine the frequency, origin, histopathology, and risk factors of PE, the vascular characteristics causing obstruction and the direct or indirect effect on mortality. A retrospective examination was made of autopsies conducted between 2013 and 2016 in the Malatya Forensic Medicine Group Directorate. Cases determined with PE were evaluated in respect of age, gender, event origin, risk factors, history of hospitalization, size of the vessels obstructed by the thromboembolism and histopathological examination. Pulmonary embolism is a frequently seen complication during hospitalization and is one of the leading causes of preventable hospital deaths. When advanced diagnostic methods are used, deep vein thrombosis is determined in 79% of PE patients. The annual incidence in Turkey is approximately 15/10,000 cases, which is comparable to rates in western populations. Although PE is seen more at advanced ages, attention must be paid to young cases with trauma-related injuries. Histopathological examination is of the greatest importance as the mortality rate associated with large vessel obstruction is high and obstructions in small vessels alone also contribute to mortality. Abstract Incest is an illegal sexual relationship which is encountered in all societies and more often seen in childhood with psychologically destructive effects. The incest is presented between an antaomically virgin girl who experienced sexual relations resulting pregnancy and birth, with her older brother who didnt have adequate sexual relationship information and thought he was playing games, re-enacting what seen on films and television. The girl 12 year-old at the time of incest, didnt realise that she was pregnant so the pregnancy couldn't be terminated and she gave birth to a baby. Applied tests, the accused brother was determined with mild mental retardation, but he had been educated to high school level. The girl was determined to have developed a severe mental disorder because of the event. In this case of incest which resulted in a birth, the girl was found to be victim, the sister and the infants mother and the boy with mental retardation was the perpetrator. Our aim was to draw attention to destructive effects within the family of incest. In addition, incest cases are rarely seen, it should be pointed out that besides the girl as victim, the mentally-retarded brother and the newborn infant were also victims. Abstract Honour killings are still pervasive in many societies. The aim of this study is to reveal the characteristics of the victims of honour killings and honour killers in Malatya province between 2000 and 2004, and to review the concept of honour killings in Turkey. Data are collected from the records of Malatya Higher Criminal Court. The results are discussed in the light of the data obtained from Turkish Republic Ministry of Justice. There were 36 honour killings in Malatya between 2000 and 2004. An overwhelming majority of the killers lived in the rural areas, and were employed in agriculture (n=22, 61%). Of all victims, 44% were killed with fire arms. An overwhelming majority of the victims were close relatives of their killers (n=25 ). Sixty-seven percent of the victims were killed in their homes or workplaces. In Turkey, a total of 2736 people were murdered between 2001 and 2008, and out of 2736 victims 511 were female. Prevention of honour killings will definitely decrease the number of murdered women. [Med-Science 2013; 2(2.000): 640-8]
