Abstract Purpose: To developed and introduced a measurement scale that may be useful to assess the competitive priorities practices in the manufacturing industries. The objective is to investigate the competitive priorities domains’ implementation and its defining measurement items emphasizing manufacturing industries in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Design/methodology/approach: The essential information has been gathered from 350 manufacturing firms by utilizing very much stretchered polls; most part of the data was gathered from best dimension working people like Operations Managers, General Managers and Directors. For analyzing the data the researchers used SPSS and LISREL 8.72 software packages. To find out the result the researchers applied Confirmatory Factor Analysis in this research work. Findings: From the six domains analyzed the result shows that Delivery plays an important role as it occupies the first rank among the domains in competitive priority. Next to Delivery, the majority of the firms fasten more importance to Quality as it ranks second. Cost is ranked as third, while Know-how is ranked as fourth, Flexibility is ranked as fifth and Customer Focus is ranked as sixth. Practical implications: Based on the existing recommendations on scale development literature, authors developed the measurement scale. This measurement scale is helpful for both academicians and practitioners. In this research work authors used the measurement scale to measure the competitive priorities domains. Originality/value: The research paper explains about the manufacturing industries situated in Union Territory of Puducherry. The researchers developed the measurement instrument of competitive priorities practices based on six domains namely quality, cost, delivery, flexibility, customer focus, and know-how. This research work gives innovative literature by recommendations and validating a measurement scale for the competitive priorities. The result reveals that the manufacturing enterprises in the Union Territory of ...

Abstract The concept of organ- and function-preserving surgery without compromising the primary goal of complete tumour removal has been recently applied in adrenal surgery. This has been accomplished by open surgery in the past. With recent advancements in minimally invasive surgery, partial adrenalectomy by laparoscopic approach has become feasible. The indications, contraindications and worldwide experience have been reviewed for this article.

Abstract A 34-year-old woman presented to the surgical assessment unit with severe right loin to groin pain. An ultrasound scan of the abdomen revealed a complex cyst in the right iliac fossa and a subsequent CT scan revealed a 7.5 cm retroperitoneal cystic lesion below the lower pole of the right kidney. The patient also had MRI of the kidneys, which confirmed the finding. The image showed the cyst was not attached to the kidneys and was clearly separate. She underwent a laparoscopic excision of the cyst. Histopathology revealed a cyst lined by a single layer of mucinous epithelium of endocervical type with foci of calcification and hyalinisation on the wall. The cyst was thought to be a benign cyst of Mullerian origin.

Abstract Subclavian vein thrombosis is an uncommon clinical condition which is often associated with venous catheterization or secondary to excessive effort. We present a 54-year-old female with subclavian vein thrombosis as a first presentation of renal cell carcinoma. Although this is an unusual presentation, malignancy should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Hypercoagulability as part of a paraneoplastic syndrome was considered a possible etiology. In patients with otherwise unexplained subclavian vein thrombosis, full systemic examination and radiological evaluation of the abdomen, retroperitoneum and pelvis should be pursued. A review of the literature relevant to this unusual case is provided.

Abstract To examine the practice of repeating an abnormal prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level before proceeding to prostate biopsy, we assessed the pattern of PSA change following an initially raised (>or=4.0 ng ml(-1)) PSA, and the relationship of this to prostate cancer diagnosis. In 7052 men, 71.2% with initially raised PSA had a reduction in PSA, with values <4.0 ng ml(-1) in 37.8%. A total of 43.0% of men with prostate cancer showed a PSA decrease below their baseline level. Short-term decreases in PSA may occur in men with prostate cancer, including high-grade cancer, and so should not influence the decision to proceed to prostate biopsy.
