    Abstract Study region: Truong Son Commune, Luong Son District, Hoa Binh Province in north Vietnam. Study focus: Runoff and erosion from three road surface and three adjacent cutslope plots in a young plantation forest to evaluate how unpaved forest roads affect runoff and erosion. New hydrologic insights for the region: The 10-m long road surface plots generated similar amounts of runoff with runoff coefficients of 24–32 % over 24 rainstorms divided into an initial wetter period followed by a relatively drier period. Runoff coefficients for the two monitoring periods were not statistically different, and the relatively low runoff coefficients compared to previous studies were due to infiltration outside the narrow compacted tracks created primarily by motorbike traffic. Runoff from the base of the cutslopes varied by a factor of three, associated with the topographic convergence of the hillslopes. Road surface erosion over the two monitoring periods was consistent among the three plots and storm-based sediment production was strongly correlated with both storm precipitation and surface runoff. The amounts of runoff and sediment collected at the base of the cutslopes increased with increasing hillslope convergence, and the mass of collected sediment was 52–97 % of the corresponding amounts from the road surface plots. The results provide data on the extent of unpaved road runoff and erosion in this seasonally wet tropical environment, and the need to consider topographic convergence in road design and drainage.

    Abstract Direct democracy is the original and true way to ensure the power and position of the people as the owners of the state and society. Along with representative democracy, the implementation of direct democracy is important and indispensable in modern states in the world. In Vietnam, direct democracy has been recognized in many important legal documents and has been concerned by the Vietnamese Government, especially in recent times. Promoting and expanding direct democracy in Vietnam is evaluated as very correct and consistent actions of the Communist Party and the Government of Vietnam. The implementation of democracy is an important driving force to promote socio-economic development as well as people's sovereignty. It also stimulates the material and spiritual resources among the people to serve socio-economic development and fulfill social tasks. In the recent context of Vietnam, there are a lot of difficulties and challenges in implementing direct democracy, which requires significant solutions to strengthen in the future. In this paper, besides providing general research and opinions on direct democracy, the author focuses on analyzing issues of direct democracy implementation as well as proposing some solutions to improve direct democracy in Vietnam.

    Abstract An increasing interest in nanocomposites prepared from agricultural/industrial byproducts has been paid for environmental remediation, especially in water treatment. This study reports the facile preparation of a low-cost magnetic biocomposite of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) incorporated with biopolymers extracted from durian husk, called bp-Fe3O4 and examined in the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye. Here, Fe2O3 NPs were first recovered from red mud waste and then converted to magnetic nanostructured Fe3O4 using a one-pot process via carbon combustion. The bp-Fe3O4 inherited the characteristics of each constituent component, while showing slightly higher saturation magnetization than the bare Fe3O4 NPs (19.84 and 18.66 emu/g, respectively), allowing for easy separation from the aqueous solution using a suitable magnet. The MB adsorption on bp-Fe3O4 reached an equilibrium state within 60 min reaction and achieved >90% of removal (at 50 mg/L MB) at an optimal pH range of 6–8. The effective adsorption of MB dye was attributed to both the hydroxylated-Fe3O4 NPs and biopolymers. The material showed excellent reusability tested up to the seventh MB adsorption cycle (decreased by <2% of adsorption efficiency). Overall, the outstanding magnetic properties and low-cost bp-Fe3O4 rendered them easily manipulated and separated, and reusable for water/wastewater treatment of MB dye. HIGHLIGHTS Magnetic biopolymer@Fe3O4 was successfully prepared from red mud and durian husk.; Magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles were prepared using a one-pot carbon combustion.; Good magnetic properties render them easily separated using a suitable magnet.; Fast and effective removal of methylene blue (MB) on the biopolymer@Fe3O4 at pH 7.; Good reusability of the biopolymer@Fe3O4 during 7 runs of MB adsorption–desorption.;

    Abstract Introduction: Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) arises in a number of epithelial tissues, including the stomach, salivary gland, lung, small bowel, thyroid, ocular adnexa, skin, and elsewhere. It has also been called low-grade B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). MALT lymphoma predominantly occurs in adults and is rare in children.
    Case presentation: We report a case of MALT lymphoma involving the stomach, which is the most common subtype, in a 12-year-old girl. Initially, the patient relapsed after antibiotic therapy but achieved successful treatment subsequently through irradiation.
    Conclusion: Helicobacter pylori

    Abstract Microglia are the major immune cells in the central nervous system (CNS). Born in peripheral hematopoietic tissues, microglial precursors colonize the CNS during early embryogenesis and maintain themselves thereafter. However, the mechanism underlying this colonization process remains elusive. We have recently demonstrated that neuronal apoptosis contributes to microglia colonization in zebrafish. Here, we further show that prior to neuronal apoptosis, microglial precursors are attracted to the proximal brain regions by brain-derived interleukin 34 (il34) and its receptor colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor a (csf1ra). In both il34- and csf1ra-deficient zebrafish larva, embryonic macrophages fail to migrate to the anterior head and colonize the CNS, but their initial development and colonization to peripheral tissues remain largely unaffected. Activation of Il34-Csf1ra pathway is sufficient to attract embryonic macrophages to the CNS independent of neuronal apoptosis. Our study shows that cytokine signaling and neuronal apoptosis synergistically orchestrate the colonization of microglia in early zebrafish development.
