Abstract Adolf Portmann is counted among the key protagonists of philosophical anthropology, although he was formerly a biologist and zoologist. Thus, the paper presented here poses the question of the legitimacy of such a claim and investigates the philosophical relevance of Portmann’s work. Two of his most renowned conceptions serve as examples: First, the “extra-uterine” year in the “social uterus,” during which the human child grows into the upright carriage of body, learns of speech through words and signs and learns of “technical intelligence,” all of which together make the child become a genuine human being. Second, the conception of “Innerlichkeit,” which is rendered into English as “centricity,” is a common feature of all living beings and is significant through self-manifestation. The two conceptions are intertwined with one another and offer the basis for an eventual conception of the human being as a person. This is a fundamental tenant of classical philosophical anthropology, something which Portmann himself never elaborated on, and it thus remains a desideratum in the scholarship.

Abstract The paper aims to present the most important characteristics of the evolution of the accounting system in Slovenia, emphasizing the most important features of the national accounting standards as well as the institutional framework that has affected the accounting development. Slovenia is a code law country with underdeveloped financial markets, dominant bank financing, close linkage between financial accounting income and taxable income and a small auditing profession. IFRS are mandatory for all companies with publicly traded securities for consolidated financial statements and for all banks and insurance companies. All other companies report in accordance with national accounting standards, although they have an option to apply the IFRS for their consolidated as well as separate annual financial statements. Since the number of entities in Slovenia that prepare their financial statements in conformity with IFRS is in international terms rather small, our literature review reveals that studies about IFRS implementation in Slovenia are lacking. Until now there have been just a few studies exploring the level of IFRS compliance. The paper draws attention to possibilities for future research from the field of value reliability and value relevance.

Abstract Supramolecular structures, such as micelles, liposomes, polymerosomes or dendrimerosomes, are widely studied and used as drug delivery systems. The behavior of amphiphilic building blocks strongly depends on their spatial distribution and shape of polar and nonpolar component. This report is focused on the development of new versatile synthetic protocols for amphiphilic carbosilane dendrons (amp-CS-DDNs) capable of self-assembly to regular micelles and other supramolecular objects. The presented strategy enables the fine modification of amphiphilic structure in several ways and also enables the facile connection of a desired functionality. DLS experiments demonstrated correlations between structural parameters of amp-CS-DDNs and the size of formed nanoparticles. For detailed information about the organization and spatial distribution of amp-CS-DDNs assemblies, computer simulation models were studied by using molecular dynamics in explicit water.

Abstract Objective: To measure the global impact of COVID-19 pandemic on volumes of IV thrombolysis (IVT), IVT transfers, and stroke hospitalizations over 4 months at the height of the pandemic (March 1 to June 30, 2020) compared with 2 control 4-month periods.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, observational, retrospective study across 6 continents, 70 countries, and 457 stroke centers. Diagnoses were identified by their ICD-10 codes or classifications in stroke databases.
Results: There were 91,373 stroke admissions in the 4 months immediately before compared to 80,894 admissions during the pandemic months, representing an 11.5% (95% confidence interval [CI] -11.7 to -11.3,
Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic was associated with a global decline in the volume of stroke hospitalizations, IVT, and interfacility IVT transfers. Primary stroke centers and centers with higher COVID-19 inpatient volumes experienced steeper declines. Recovery of stroke hospitalization was noted in the later pandemic months.
