Abstract Lactic acidosis is considered to be one of the most common causes of high anion gap metabolic acidosis in hospitalized patients. Warburg effect can present with type B lactic acidosis and is considered to be a rare but well-known complication of hematological malignancies. Here, we present the case of a 39-year-old male who had type B lactic acidosis and recurrent hypoglycemia secondary to newly diagnosed Burkitt lymphoma. This case highlights the importance of considering malignancy workup in any case of unexplained type B lactic acidosis with vague clinical presentation, which can aid in early diagnosis and management.

Abstract Acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) activity is impaired by a variety of inhibitors including organophosphorus pesticides, leading to the accumulation of acetylcholine. In this study, we aimed to determine the association between cancer and the blood level of the (AChE). This is a multicenter hospital-based case-control study conducted in the Radiation and Isotopes Center Khartoum, and Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Biology and Oncology Gezira. One hundred and fifty participants, half of them cancer patients and half cancer free were recruited. All participants were screened for demographic, environmental, occupational, and clinical characteristics. Blood for the (AChE) activity test was drawn from participants in the two groups. The mean age of the participants was 40.6 ± 14.8 years. Geographical distribution showed the Central Region of Sudan had the highest rate of cancer, followed by North State, Khartoum State, West State, and East State. The most common tumor subtype was breast cancer, followed by leukemia, colon, esophageal, and prostate cancer. Inferential analysis revealed significantly impaired (AChE) activity among cancer patients compared to controls (53.4 ± 20.3% vs. 93.8 ± 8.8, p-value 0.001). There was a significant statistical association between impaired (AChE) activity and cancer. (AChE) activity might be applied in the future as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target. Further large sample and molecular studies are recommended.

Abstract While numerous studies have addressed the photocatalytic degradation of 2,6-dichlorophenol (2,6-DCP) in wastewater, an existing research gap pertains to operational factors' optimization by non-linear prediction models to ensure a cost-effective and sustainable process. Herein, we focus on optimizing the photocatalytic degradation of 2,6-DCP using artificial intelligence modeling, aiming at minimizing initial capital outlay and ongoing operational expenses. Hence, Fe/Zn@biochar, a novel material, was synthesized, characterized, and applied to harness the dual capabilities of 2,6-DCP adsorption and degradation. Fe/Zn@biochar exhibited an adsorption energy of -21.858 kJ/mol, effectively capturing the 2,6-DCP molecules. This catalyst accumulated photo-excited electrons, which, upon interaction with adsorbed oxygen and/or dissolved oxygen generated

Abstract Interprofessional education (IPE) continues to grow as a field internationally, and therefore has become a key activity which numerous institutions have implemented around the world. A number of learner characteristics have been suggested as being important for the success of interprofessional interventions, including prior experiences, expectations, and motivations. This study sought to explore medical student engagement with IPE and the factors that affect this. Twelve final and penultimate year students took part in two focus groups to discuss previous IPE and the factors which they felt led to successful interprofessional experiences. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Students were found to be receptive to the idea of IPE, but had some reservations about its current form. Students were enthusiastic about clinically relevant IPE experiences, but were put off by generic teambuilding exercises, especially those with a poor mix of professional groups. They also reported being aware of interprofessional tensions and communication issues, which they felt might be alleviated through frequent interprofessional contact at the undergraduate level. This study suggests that medical students desire realistic, clinically relevant, interprofessional experiences, with a good mix of professionals, through which they can gain more awareness of their own role and that of other professionals.

Abstract The study aims at identifying the reality of applying the administrative empowerment on the National Authority for Electricity, assessing its approved reality and how to activate it. The study population consists of 42 “engineers” accountants and technicians working in the authority administration A questionnaire was distributed to them and 30 forms were returned, valid for analysis as a study sample the researcher used the Simple Linear Regression model. The study was conducted in the National Authority for Electricity in Sudan. The researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical method. The study concluded to the fact that there is the freedom to perform work and discuss ideas with the administration and there is the power to correct deviations when they occur, without referring to the immediate superior. The study recommended working on possessing the technical and administrative aspects necessary to obtain information and the need to exchange it, encouraging employees to promote the sense of strength and success by granting them more freedom to act in everything related to their jobs.
