Studies on Polyhalides, XXXXII [1]. The Pentaiodide-Ion I5-; an Overview: Preparation and Crystal Structure of [Rb(C16H24O6)](I5) H2O

    2014

    Abstract: Rb(benzo-18-crown-6)](I₅) H₂O could be prepared by the reaction of benzo-18-crown-6, rubidium iodide, and iodine in ethanol / dichloromethane. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/a with a = 1881.8(3), b = 1439.0(2), c = 2269.0(3) pm, ß = ... ...

Abstract [Rb(benzo-18-crown-6)](I₅) H₂O could be prepared by the reaction of benzo-18-crown-6, rubidium iodide, and iodine in ethanol / dichloromethane. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/a with a = 1881.8(3), b = 1439.0(2), c = 2269.0(3) pm, ß = 111.24(1)° and Z = 8. The crystal structure was refined to RF = 0.038 for 5310 reflections. It contains two independent molecules. The two cations and the coordinating water molecules form a zigzag chain running along [100] paralleled by two structurally similar pentaiodide chains with one leg of the V-shaped pentaiodide ion forming the backbone of the chain. In both cases the other leg stands out in a novel fashion without forming a coplanar cis or trans configuration known from other pentaiodides. Anionic motifs of other crystalline pentaiodides are summarized and discussed.

Abstract Crystals of di-μ-bromido-bis-[tetra-bromidotantalum(V)], (TaBr(5))(2), were obtained by recrystallization at 773 K. A first crystal structure study of (TaBr(5))(2) was reported by Rolsten [J. Am. Chem. Soc. (1958) ▶, 80, 2952-2953], who analysed the powder diffraction pattern and came to the conclusion that it crystallizes isotypically with (NbBr(5))(2) in a primitive ortho-rhom-bic cell. These findings are not in agreement with our current results of a monoclinic C-centred structure. (TaBr(5))(2) is isotypic with α-(NbCl(5))(2). The crystal structure contains [TaBr(6)] octa-hedra sharing common edges forming [TaBr(5)](2) dimers. Two crystallographically independent dimers with symmetries m and 2/m and Ta⋯Ta distances of 4.1574 (11) and 4.1551 (15) Å, respectively, are present in the structure.

Abstract (1,4,7,10,13,16-Hexaoxacyclooctadecane-kappa(6)O)potassium pentaiodide, [K(C(12)H(24)O(6))]I(5), obtained by slow evaporation of an ethanol solution of KI, 18-crown-6 and I(2), contains [K(18-crown-6)](+) cations (C(i) symmetry) and I(5)(-) anions (C(2) symmetry), which are arranged in alternating layers parallel to (001). In contrast to the well known tendency of I(5)(-) ions to form chains and nets, the I(5)(-) units in the title compound are isolated.

Abstract In catena-poly[[[triaquacadmium(II)]-micro-acetylenedicarboxylato-kappa(4)O,O':O",O"'] hydrate], [[Cd(C(4)O(4))(H(2)O)(3)].H(2)O](n), the Cd(II) atom is coordinated by two bidentate carboxylate groups and three water molecules, thus forming a sevenfold coordination polyhedron with all atoms located on general sites. These polyhedra are connected by the bifunctional acetylenedicarboxylate ligands, forming zigzag chains running parallel to [120]. Hydrogen bonds, which involve the non-coordinated water molecule, connect these chains to form a three-dimensional framework.

    2011

Abstract: Two coordination polymers (CPs) based on a Agᴵ/perfluoro-β-diketonate/N-donor ligand, [Ag(4,4′-bpy)(hfa)]ₙ, (1) and [Ag(4,4′-bpy)(ttfa)]ₙ (2), where 4,4′-bpy is 4,4′-bipyridine, Hhfa is hexafluoroacetylacetone, and Httfa is thenoyltrifluoracetylacetone, ... ...

Abstract Two coordination polymers (CPs) based on a Agᴵ/perfluoro-β-diketonate/N-donor ligand, [Ag(4,4′-bpy)(hfa)]ₙ, (1) and [Ag(4,4′-bpy)(ttfa)]ₙ (2), where 4,4′-bpy is 4,4′-bipyridine, Hhfa is hexafluoroacetylacetone, and Httfa is thenoyltrifluoracetylacetone, were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and ¹H NMR spectroscopy as well as X-ray crystallography and electrochemical properties were studied. The complexes display 1D CPs structurally quite similar to another. The adjacent chains are further interlinked via Ag···Ag, Ag···O contacts to generate 1D ladder (double chains) structures. Abundant weak interactions, such as π···π, CH···F, CH···O and F···F interactions, provide additional assembly forces, leading to 3D supramolecular networks for 1 and 2.
