Title translation The contribution of the ancient medicine to the Luxorius' text and to its exegesys (poem 302, 1-6 happ; with an appendix about V 7).
Abstract Luxorius' poem 302, written in Vandal Africa at the beginning of the VIth Century, about a physician named Marzinus, who knew the principles of the methodical and the dogmatic School, becames more clear in its meaning if it is read with an eye to the history of the Schools of Medicine in the Roman Empire and to the works by Cassius Felix and Caelius Aurelianus and if we suppose a recall by the author to the famous anatomist Marinus of Alexandria.

Abstract A new gas detector prototype for the upgrade of the focal plane detector of the MAGNEX large-acceptance magnetic spectrometer has been developed and tested in view of the NUMEN project. It has been designed to operate at low gas pressure for detecting medium to heavy ions in the energy range between 15 and 60 AMeV. It is a drift chamber based on Multi-layer Thick-GEM (M-THGEM) as electron multiplication technology. Tests with two different M-THGEM layouts have been performed using both a radioactive $\alpha$-particle source and accelerated heavy-ion beams. The characterization of the detector in terms of measured currents that flow through the electrodes as a function of different parameters, including applied voltages, gas pressure and rate of incident particle, is described. The gain and ion backflow properties have been studied.

Abstract Background: "Dancing eye syndrome", also called Kinsbourne syndrome or Opsoclonus-Myoclonus-Ataxia Syndrome (OMS) is a rare neurological disorder that in children is frequently associated to occult, low-grade neuroblastoma (NB) (>50% of the cases). OMS may also be triggered by infections and it is often associated to developmental impairment and disability.
Case presentation: We discuss the case of a 16 months old female with acutely onset of OMS associated to occult stage III NB.
Conclusions: OMS represents a diagnostic challenge for pediatric clinicians. The suspect of OMS imposes the search for an occult NB in order to promptly treat a life-threatening event like tumor and to prevent the neurological sequels linked to OMS.

Abstract Canaloplasty is a recent non penetrating glaucoma surgical procedure where Schlemm's canal is dilated and trabecular meshwork distended by tensioning polypropylene suture. The aim of this study was to visualize the iridocorneal angle after the canaloplasty procedure by means of two different ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) units. Ten eyes of nine patients with primary open angle glaucoma (average age 62 years) underwent canaloplasty (six eyes) or canaloplasty combined with phacoemulsification and in-the-bag intraocular lens implantation (4 eyes). Both 50 MHz (Paradigm P45) and 80 MHz (i-UltraSound) systems were used. All procedures were performed by the same surgeon. UBM examination was performed 3 to 12 (mean 7 +/- 3.1) months after surgery. No, mild and good trabecular meshwork distension by suture tensioning was graded as 0, 1 and 2 according to the higher resolution 80 MHz images. Both ultrasound systems could show intrascleral lake and trabecular meshwork distension, which was graded as 0, 1 and 2 in 10%, 30% and 60% of eyes, respectively. Schlemm's canal could be imaged with the 80 MHz transducer only. The overall qualified success of canaloplasty (80%) was apparently correlated with suture tensioning (r=0.64). In our experience, after canaloplasty the 80 MHz but also 50 MHz technology can show trabecular meshwork distension. A greater number of eyes are needed to assess the correlation between intraocular pressure decrease and suture tensioning.

Abstract Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common malignancy in childhood. Continuous progress in risk-adapted treatment for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia has secured 5-year event-free survival rates of approximately 80% and 8-year survival rates approaching 90%. Almost 75% of survivors, however, have a chronic health condition negatively impacting on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Obesity can be considered one of the most important health chronic conditions in the general population, with an increasing incidence in patients treated for childhood cancers and especially in acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivors who are, at the same time, more at risk of experiencing precocious cardiovascular and metabolic co-morbidities. The hypothalamic-pituitary axis damage secondary to cancer therapies (cranial irradiation and chemotherapy) or to primary tumor together with lifestyle modifications and genetic factors could affect long-term outcomes. Nevertheless, the etiology of obesity in acute lymphoblastic leukemia is not yet fully understood. The present review has the aim of summarizing the published data and examining the most accepted mechanisms and main predisposing factors related to weight gain in this particular population.
