    Abstract Changes of the lakes on high-altitude regions of the Tibet Plateau influence the state of the surrounding permafrost. Due to the climate warming and wetting trend, extreme events including lake outburst has occurred more frequent. In 2011, an outburst event occurred on the Zonag Lake and this event changed the water distribution in the basin, leading a rapid expansion of the Tailwater lake, named as the Salt Lake. However, the construction of the drainage channel in the Salt Lake ended the expansion process and the shrinkage of the lake started since 2020. To investigate the permafrost state around the Salt Lake, multiple methods, including drilling boreholes, the unmanned aerial vehicle survey and the ground penetrating radar detection have been applied. By integrating these multi-source data, the thermal regime, topography and the spatial distribution of the permafrost around the Salt Lake were analyzed. The result showed that the permafrost state around the Salt Lake was related to the distance from the lake water. The permafrost table appears at 90 m away from the Salt Lake and interrupted by a nearby thermokarst lake at 220 m. The ground temperature in the natural field is 0.2 °C lower than the temperature in the lake at a depth of −5 m.

    Abstract Ice-rich permafrost in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP), China, is becoming susceptible to thermokarst landforms, and the most dramatic among these terrain-altering landforms is retrogressive thaw slump (RTS). Concurrently, RTS development can in turn affect the eco-environment, and especially soil erosion and carbon emission, during their evolution. However, there are still a lack of quantitative methods and comprehensive studies on the deformation and volumetric change in RTS. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively assess the RTS evolution through a novel and feasible simulation framework of the GPU-based discrete element method (DEM) coupled with the finite difference method (FDM). Additionally, the simulation results were calibrated using the time series observation results from September 2021 to August 2022, using the combined methods of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The results reveal that, over this time, thaw slump mobilized a total volume of 1335 m 3 and approximately 1050 m 3 moved to a displaced area. Additionally, the estimated soil erosion was about 211 m 3 . Meanwhile, the corresponding maximum ground subsidence and headwall retrogression were 1.9 m and 3.2 m, respectively. We also found that the amount of mass wasting in RTS development is highly related to the ground ice content. When the volumetric ice content exceeds 10%, there will be obvious mass wasting in the thaw slump development area. Furthermore, this work proposed that the coupled DEM-FDM method and field survey method of TLS-UAV can provide an effective pathway to simulate thaw-induced slope failure problems and complement the research limitations of small-scale RTSs using remote sensing methods. The results are meaningful for assessing the eco-environmental impacts on the QTP.

    Abstract Research collaborations are encouraged because a synergistic effect yielding good results often appears. However, creating and organizing a strong research group is a difficult task. One of the greatest concerns of an individual researcher is locating potential collaborators whose expertise complement his best. In this paper, we propose a method that makes link predictions in co-authorship networks, where topological features between authors such as Adamic/Adar, Common Neighbors, Jaccard's Coefficient, Preferential Attachment, Katzβ, and PropFlow may be good indicators of their future collaborations. Firstly, these topological features were systematically extracted from the network. Then, supervised models were used to learn the best weights associated with different topological features in deciding co-author relationships. Finally, we tested our models on the co-authorship networks in the research field of Coronary Artery Disease and obtained encouraging accuracy (the precision, recall, F1 score and AUC were, respectively, 0.696, 0.677, 0.671 and 0.742 for Logistic Regression, and respectively, 0.697, 0.678, 0.671 and 0.743 for SVM). This suggests that our models could be used to build and manage strong research groups.
