Abstract | Diabetic patients remain at increased risk for major adverse cardiovascular events, compared to their non-diabetic counterparts. Coronary artery bypass grafting remains superior to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) among diabetic patients with chronic coronary syndrome and multivessel coronary artery disease. PCI represents an alternative in diabetic patient with low coronary anatomy complexity. The revascularization strategy should be discussed by a multidisciplinary Heart Team. Despite advances in DES technology, PCI in diabetic patients remains associated with a higher risk of adverse outcomes than in non-diabetic patients, but the long-term outcome results from recently published and ongoing large-scale randomized studies investigating novel DES designs may reshape the landscape of coronary revascularization for diabetic patient. |
