    Abstract Abstract Endometriosis (EM) is one of the leading gynecological disorders, and associated with excessive functioning of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs). The current study was conducted to determine the expression and role of methyltransferase‐like 3 (METTL3) in the proliferation, invasion, and migration of ESCs in EM. The documented expression levels of METTL3, microRNA (miR)‐21‐5p, and WNT inhibitory factor 1 (WIF1) in eutopic (Eut) and ectopic (Ect) endometrial tissues and ESCs were determined by a combination of real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assay. After transfection with pcDNA3.1‐METTL3, miR‐21‐5p mimic, and WIF1 small interfering RNA, cell counting kit‐8, colony formation, and Transwell assays were performed in the Ect ESCs (Ect‐ESCs). Subsequently, the binding of miR‐21‐5p to METTL3 was analyzed, along with quantification of the N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) level, the enrichments of METTL3 and m6A on WIF1, and the mRNA stability of WIF1. In our findings, METTL3 was downregulated in the EM tissues and cells. METTL3 overexpression intrinsically reduced the proliferation, invasion, and migration of Ect‐ESCs. miR‐21‐5p inhibited the METTL3 expression while METTL3 enhanced the mRNA stability and expression of WIF1 via m6A modification. Additionally, a negative correlation of METTL3 was identified with miR‐21‐5p along with a positive correlation with the WIF1 mRNA in EM tissues. The miR‐21‐5p overexpression or WIF1 downregulation enhanced the proliferation, invasion, and migration of Ect‐ESCs. Collectively, miR‐21‐5p inhibited the METTL3‐mediated m6A modification and mRNA stability of WIF1, thereby facilitating the proliferation, invasion, and migration of Ect‐ESCs.

    Abstract This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and Remnant Cholesterol (Remnant-C) in relation to cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in the general population. A population-based study. We conducted a retrospective cohort study analyzing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years of 2011-2018, with follow-up for mortality status until December 31, 2019. Kaplan‒Meier and Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations between NLR, Remnant-C, and cardiovascular events as well as all-cause mortality. Overall, 9409 individuals with both complete blood count and blood lipids were included in the analysis. Baseline NLR and Remnant-C were calculated. During the follow-up (median, 59.3 months), 177 cardiovascular events and 561 all-cause mortality occurred. In fully adjusted model, people with NLR > 2.26 were significantly associated with higher risk of cardiovascular events (HR 2.14, 95% CI 1.30-3.52, P < 0.001) and all-cause mortality (HR 1.66, 95% CI 1.30-2.12, P < 0.001). NLR exhibited a positive correlation with Remnant-C (r = 0.04, P < 0.001). Elevated NLR levels shown stronger association with cardiovascular events (HR 1.21, 95% CI 1.14-2.28, P < 0.001) compared with Remnant-C (HR 1.02, 95% CI 1.00-1.04, P = 0.020). Our findings suggest that NLR and Remnant-C are potential predictive markers for cardiovascular events in the general population. We observed a correlation between NLR and Remnant-C, and high NLR levels demonstrate a stronger association with the prediction of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality compared with Remnant-C.

    Abstract Introduction: Teleoperation is an essential component in fields such as medicine and manufacturing, enabling human operators to interact with remote robotic systems. A wearable device has been designed and manufactured to enhance sensitivity, wearability, and synchronization, providing users with the ability to experience the sensation of grasping virtual objects.
    Methods: The device incorporates a 2-DoF robotic arm, haptic sensors for finger gestures, and a Unity-powered virtual scene system. Its effectiveness was evaluated through user experiments, where participants were asked to rank the weights of three virtual balls and identify the direction of force applied to a virtual ball in separate tests. Additionally, the device's ability to render various shapes was also examined.
    Results: The experiments showed that 73.3% of participants accurately ranked the balls by mass, and an overall correctness rate of 87.3% was achieved for force direction identification. For shape rendering, the device yielded more accurate results for simple objects like spheres, whereas rendering more complex objects such as cups and cones was challenging.
    Discussion: The findings indicate that this wearable device has potential applications in haptic feedback and virtual reality contexts. Despite the challenges with complex shape rendering, the device shows promising capability in enhancing the user's immersive experience in virtual environments.

    Abstract With the rapid development of gene therapy technology and the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics have attracted more and more attention, and the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for emergency authorization. To improve the delivery efficiency of mRNA in vitro and in vivo, researchers have developed a variety of mRNA carriers and explored different administration routes. This review will systematically introduce the types of mRNA vectors, routes of administration, storage methods, safety of mRNA therapeutics, and the type of diseases that mRNA drugs are applied for. Finally, some suggestions are supplied on the development direction of mRNA therapeutic agents in the future.

    Abstract Individual differences in personality traits and economic preferences have been found to be powerful in explaining key labour market success. Yet, much of their impact on agricultural production decisions in the rural context remains unclear. This thesis aims to provide more insights into the contribution of personality traits and economic preferences to smallholders’ economic decisions in agricultural production and farm management, using available data sets from China. It starts with an investigation of smallholders’ perception of land tenure security from perspectives of both cognitive-consequentialist and risk-as-feelings. The subsequent two chapters centre on the roles of personality traits and preferences in two important input decisions regarding smallholders’ agricultural production: land renting and fertilizer use. This thesis further examines if human personality has direct impact on smallholder farmers’ overall farm management performance. Unravelling the mysterious role that personality traits play in smallholder farmers’ decision-making processes is vital for designing policies aimed at increasing agricultural production and alleviating rural poverty.

    Abstract With climate change and rising sea levels, the residents and assets in low-elevation coastal zones (LECZ) are at increasing risk. The application of high-resolution gridded population datasets in recent years has highlighted the threats faced by people living in LECZ. However, the potential exposure of gross domestic product (GDP) within LECZ remains unknown, due to the absence of refined GDP datasets and corresponding analyzes for coastal regions. The climate-related risks faced by LECZ may still be underestimated. In this study, we estimated the potential exposure of GDP in the LECZ across China by overlying DEM with new gridded GDP datasets generated by random forest models. The results show that 24.02% and 22.7% of China’s total GDP were located in the LECZ in 2010 and 2019, respectively, while the area of the LECZ only accounted for 1.91% of China’s territory. Significant variability appears in the spatial-temporal pattern and the volume of GDP across sectors, which impedes disaster prevention and mitigation efforts within administrative regions. Interannual comparisons reveal a rapid increase in GDP within the LECZ, but a decline in its share of the country. Policy reasons may have driven the slow shift of China’s economy to regions far from the LECZ.
