Abstract Accurate short-term load forecasting is the key to ensuring smooth and efficient power system operation and power market dispatch planning. However, the nonlinear, non-stationary, and time series nature of load sequences makes load forecasting difficult. To address these problems, this paper proposes a short-term load forecasting method (EPT-VMD-TCN-TPA) based on the hybrid decomposition of load sequences, which combines ensemble patch transform (EPT), variational modal decomposition (VMD), a temporal convolutional network (TCN), and a temporal pattern attention mechanism (TPA). In which, the trend component (Tr(t)) and the residual fluctuation component (Re(t)) of the load series are extracted using EPT, and then the Re(t) component is decomposed into intrinsic modal function components (IMFs) of different frequencies using VMD. The Tr(t) and IMFs components of the fused meteorological data are predicted separately by the TCN-TPA prediction model, and finally, the prediction results of each component are reconstructed and superimposed to obtain the final predicted value of the load. In addition, experiments after reconstructing each IMF component according to the fuzzy entropy (FE) values are discussed in this paper. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method in this paper, we used datasets from two Areas of the 9th Mathematical Modeling Contest in China. The experimental results show that the predictive precision of the EPT-VMD-TCN-TPA model outperforms other comparative models. More specifically, the experimental results of the EPT-VMD-TCN-TPA method had a MAPE of 1.25% and 1.58% on Area 1 and Area 2 test sets, respectively.

A 3D Object Detector with Density-and-Sparsity Feature Aggregation

Abstract In the field of autonomous driving and robotics, 3D object detection is a difficult, but important task. To improve the accuracy of detection, LiDAR, which collects the 3D point cloud of a scene, is updated constantly. But the density of the collected 3D points is low, and its distribution is unbalanced in the scene, which influences the accuracy of 3D object detectors in regards to object location and identification. Although corresponding high-resolution scene images from cameras can be used as supplemental information, poor fusion strategies can result in decreased accuracy compared with that of LiDAR-point-only detectors. Thus, to improve the detection performance for the classification, localization, and even boundary location of 3D objects, a two-stage detector with density-and-sparsity feature aggregation, called DASANet, is proposed in this paper. In the first stage, dense pseudo point clouds are generated with images from cameras and are used to obtain the initial proposals. In the second stage, two novel feature aggregation modules are designed to fuse LiDAR point information and pseudo point information, which refines the semantic and detailed representation of the feature maps. To supplement the semantic information of the highest-scale LiDAR features for object localization and classification, a triple differential information supplement (TDIS) module is presented to extract the LiDAR-pseudo differential features and enhance them in spatial, channel, and global dimensions. To increase the detailed information of the LiDAR features for object boundary location, a Siamese three-dimension coordinate attention (STCA) module is presented to extract stable LiDAR and pseudo point cloud features with a Siamese encoder and fuse these features using a three-dimension coordinate attention. Experiments using the KITTI Vision Benchmark Suite demonstrate the improved performance of our DASANet in regards to the localization and boundary location of objects. The ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of ...

Abstract The compressed sensing (CS) method, commonly utilized for restructuring sparse signals, has been extensively used to attenuate the random noise in seismic data. An important basis of CS-based methods is the sparsity of sparse coefficients. In this method, the sparse coefficient vector is acquired by minimizing the l1 norm as a substitute for the l0 norm. Many efforts have been made to minimize the lp norm (0 < p < 1) to obtain a more desirable sparse coefficient representation. Despite the improved performance that is achieved by minimizing the lp norm with 0 < p < 1, the related sparse coefficient vector is still suboptimal since the parameter p is greater than 0 rather than infinitely approaching 0 p→0+. Therefore, the CS method with the limit p→0+ is proposed to enhance the sparse performance and thus generate better denoised results in this paper. Our proposed method is referred to as the CS-LHR method because the solving process for minimizing p→0+ is the log-sum heuristic recovery (LHR). Furthermore, to improve the computational efficiency, we incorporate the majorization-minimization (MM) algorithm in this CS-LHR method. Experimental results of synthetic and real seismic records demonstrate the remarkable performance of CS-LHR in random noise suppression.

Abstract As an important yardstick of social modernization, nuclear technology not only promotes the in-depth development of the national economy but also hangs a sword of Damocles in the field of the risk society. Against the background of the unrest of the nuclear leakage disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the Japanese government has announced its unilateral decision to discharge nuclear sewage into the sea, undoubtedly putting at least the Pacific Rim countries at huge potential risks. In order to maximize risk reduction and focus on preventive construction in advance, Japan’s measures to discharge accident nuclear sewage into the sea have a legitimate basis for the application of an environmental impact assessment system. At the same time, in the process of operation, there are numerous risk dilemmas, such as lack of safety treatment standards, long follow-up disposal cycle and negative domestic supervision system, which need to be broken through one by one. The effective application of the environmental impact assessment system in the Japanese nuclear accident not only helps to reduce the environmental crisis caused by accidental nuclear effluent discharge to the sea but also has a positive and far-reaching international demonstration significance, which helps to better build a foundation of international trust and preventive guarantee system in advance for the possible accidental nuclear effluent treatment in the future.

Abstract Flood-based hydrodynamic damage to check dam systems on the Loess Plateau of China occurs frequently, and there is a strong desire to carry out risk assessments of such check dam systems. This study proposes a weighting method that combines the analytic hierarchy process, entropy method, and TOPSIS to assess the risk of check dam systems. The combined weight-TOPSIS model avoids weight calculation only considers the influence of subjective or objective preference and the bias of the single weighting method. The proposed method is capable of multi-objective risk ranking. It is applied to the Wangmaogou check dam system located in a small watershed on the Loess Plateau. The result of risk ranking matches the reality of the situation. The gray correlation theory model is utilized to rank the risks in the same research area and compared with the results of the combined weight-TOPSIS model. The combined weight-TOPSIS model is more favorable to risk assessment than the gray correlation theory model. The resolution level and decisive judgment of the combined weight-TOPSIS model are more advantageous. These results are in line with the actual conditions. It proves that the combined weight-TOPSIS model can provide a technical reference for the risk assessment of check dam systems in small watersheds.

Abstract Radical transformations are powerful in organic synthesis for the construction of molecular scaffolds and introduction of functional groups. In radical difunctionalization reactions, the radicals in the first functionalized intermediates can be relocated through resonance, hydrogen atom or group transfer, and ring opening. The resulting radical intermediates can undertake the following paths for the second functionalization: (1) couple with other radical groups, (2) oxidize to cations and then react with nucleophiles, (3) reduce to anions and then react with electrophiles, (4) couple with metal-complexes. The rearrangements of radicals provide the opportunity for the synthesis of 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,5-, 1,6-, and 1,7-difunctionalization products. Multiple ways to initiate the radical reaction coupling with intermediate radical rearrangements make the radical reactions good for difunctionalization at the remote positions. These reactions offer the advantages of synthetic efficiency, operation simplicity, and product diversity.

Abstract Time-domain structures (TDS), manifested as ≥ 1 ms pulses with significant parallel electric fields, play an important role in accelerating electrons in the field-aligned direction. These precipitated electrons contribute to the formation of aurora. In this study, we present observations of time-domain structures that occurred in the plasmaspheric plumes at the post-midnight to dawn sector. The close correlation between TDS and plasmaspheric plumes implies that the generation of TDS might be modulated by plasma density. During the wave occurrence, protons with an energy level below 1 keV show the enhanced field-aligned pitch-angle distributions, and the electron fluxes with the energies ranging from tens to hundreds of eV are also significantly enhanced. The correlation between TDS and scattered particles indicates the importance of including time-domain structures in future studies of radiation belt dynamics.

Abstract A large number of publicly available documents, including patent documents and journal articles, can provide designers with creative stimuli, which could facilitate product innovation and collaborative design. As an important tacit knowledge, the acquisition, sharing, and reuse of design rationale (DR) is of great value to designers, which could help designers to better understand design intentions and ideas, support design automation, and promote better collaborative design. However, due to the fragmentation of DR in documentation, this hinders designer acquisition and reuse. If the DR fragments could be automatically extracted from the technical documents to build an interconnected knowledge network system, the problem would be effectively solved, which would further promote the development and utilization of digital archives. To address this issue, this study proposes a three-dimensional design knowledge network metamodel, Design Knowledge Semantic Network (DKSN), and a DKSN-based knowledge fusion method for the construction of a Design Knowledge Network (DKN). We set up an empirical experiment to verify the feasibility and performance of the method. Patent documents and open access research articles are used as sample documents, and a product data dictionary imported from ISO/TS 23768-1 is used as the predefined artifact dictionary. The results further confirm the feasibility and good application prospects of the proposed method.

Abstract The heavy-polluting industry is inexorably to responsible for the deterioration of the environment. Improving environmental performance is an unavoidable decision for heavy-polluting firms to ensure sustainable development under the policy framework of the carbon peak target. This study provides theoretical and empirical evidence for the effect of environmental protection subsidies on environmental performance. This study constructs basic and mediating effect models to measure how environmental protection subsidies affect environmental performance using panel data of China’s heavy-polluting listed firms from 2008 to 2019. This is an important outcome of industrial green transformation in environmental governance and provides a scientific basis for government departments to formulate environmental policies. The results of the empirical analysis show that environmental protection subsidies can improve the environmental performance of heavy-polluting listed firms. After receiving environmental protection subsidies, firms engaged in clean and green production through green technology innovation, thereby reducing external environmental pollution and improving their environmental performance. The mediating role of green technology innovation in the relationship between environmental protection subsidies and environmental performance is significant only in state-owned firms and firms in Eastern China. The research results may further guide the direction of green development of heavy-polluting industries, and thus promote harmonious development between the environment and the economy.
