    Abstract Introduction: The pathogenesis between oxidative stress and periodontitis was correlated. The Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) is a systematic tool to assess the effects of diet and lifestyle in relation to oxidative stress. However, the association between OBS and periodontitis has not been reported previously.
    Methods: Sixteen dietary factors and four lifestyle factors were selected to score the OBS. Multivariate logistic regression and sensitivity analysis were used to investigate the relationship between OBS and periodontitis based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2018. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests were used to investigate whether this association was stable across populations.
    Results: This study included 3,706 participants. There was a negative linear association between OBS and periodontitis in all participants [0.89 (0.80, 0.97)], and after converting OBS to a quartile variable, participants with OBS in the highest quartile had a 29% lower risk of periodontitis than those with OBS in the lowest quartile [0.71 (0.42, 0.98)]. This negative association differed with respect to age and diabetes.
    Conclusion: There is a negative association between OBS and periodontitis in US adults. Our results suggest that OBS may be used as a biomarker for measuring periodontitis.

    Abstract Background: There is a strong association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and periodontitis. This study utilized the Life Essentials 8 (LE8) score, a composite measure of cardiovascular health (CVH), to elucidate the relationship between CVH and periodontitis.
    Methods: Data from 8,649 nationally representative participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were analyzed. The independent variable in our study was the CVH score (a higher CVH score indicates better cardiovascular health), and the dependent variable was the presence or absence of periodontitis. The association between CVH and periodontitis was investigated using weighted multivariable logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline (RCS). We controlled for potential confounders such as age, sex, race, education, and socioeconomic status to minimize bias.
    Results: There was a negative association between the total CVH score and the odds of periodontitis. After adjusting for all covariates, a 10-point increase in total CVH score was associated with a 10% lower in the odds of periodontitis [0.90 (0.87, 0.93)]. Participants with a higher CVH had 40% lower odds of periodontitis compared with those with a lower CVH. Socioeconomic status (education and income) modified this association (P for interaction < 0.05).
    Conclusion: Our study suggests that better cardiovascular health, as indicated by higher CVH scores, is associated with a reduced likelihood of periodontitis among US adults. The relationship between CVH and periodontitis appears to be influenced by socioeconomic status, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions in populations with lower socioeconomic status.

    Abstract Due to the limitations of eruption time and space, third molars (M3s) are often impacted and induce a variety of oral diseases, bringing adverse effects on the health of their adjacent second molars (M2s). For a long time, a large number of studies have focused on the harm of impacted M3s (I-M3s) to the health of their adjacent teeth, while less attention has been paid to nonimpacted M3s (N-M3s) that have already erupted. In recent years, however, a growing number of studies and evidences have shown that the existence of N-M3s is also an important risk factor for various diseases of their adjacent teeth, whose hazard has not been taken seriously by dentists and patients. Based on the latest results of both domestic and international researches as well as our group, this review summarizes and explains the effects of N-M3s on the periodontal homeostasis and periodontal health of adjacent M2s, so as to provide reference for clinical decision-making of N-M3s and the healthy maintenance of their adjacent teeth.

    Abstract Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common cause of dementia and frailty. Therefore, it is important to develop biomarkers that can diagnose these changes to improve the likelihood of monitoring and treating potential causes. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the relationship between biomarkers and AD, identify journal publications and collaborators, and analyze keywords and research trends using a bibliometric method.
    Methods: We systematically searched for papers published in the Web of Science Core Collection database on biomarkers and AD. The search strategy was as follows: (TS) = (Alzheimer's OR Alzheimer's OR Alzheimer OR "Alzheimer's disease" OR "Alzheimer disease") AND TS = (biomarker OR biomarkers). Only articles and reviews were included as document types, with English as the primary language. The CiteSpace software was used to analyze the retrieved data on countries/regions, institutions, authors, published journals, and keywords. Simultaneously, the co-occurrence of the keywords was constructed.
    Results: There were 2625 articles on biomarkers and AD research published by 51 institutions located in 41 countries in 75 journals; the number of articles has shown an increasing trend over the past 20 years. Keywords analysis showed that Alzheimer's disease, cerebrospinal fluid, mild cognitive impairment, amyloid beta, and tau were also highly influential.
    Conclusion: This was the first study to provide an overview of the current status of development, hot spots of study, and future trends in biomarkers for AD. These findings will provide useful information for researchers to explore trends and gaps in the field of biomarkers and AD.

    Abstract Charged aerosol detection, increasingly recognized for quantifying pharmaceutical compounds with weak ultraviolet absorption, is a universal detection technique for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Charged aerosol detection shows a non-linear response with increasing analyte concentration over a wide range, limiting its versatility in various analytical applications. In this work, a co-optimization strategy for power function value (PFV) and power laws was proposed and applied to broaden the linear range of the standard curve of saccharides in Qishen Yiqi dripping pills using the HPLC-charged aerosol detection (HPLC-CAD) method. Power function values for all analytes were optimized based on empirical models. Subsequently, the optimum power laws were investigated based on a preferred PFV. Additionally, various regression equations were evaluated to ensure the accuracy and precision of the results. With the optimized PFV and power law, the ordinary least squares model demonstrated a satisfactory fit. The optimal PFVs and power laws expanded the standard curve's linear range by 2.7 times compared to default settings, reducing model uncertainty. This paper presents a vital method for developing a multi-component quantitative HPLC-CAD approach without external data transformation outside the provided software, especially suitable for analytical applications of traditional Chinese medicine with significant quality differences.

    Abstract Improving the quality of medical images is crucial for accurate clinical diagnosis; however, medical images are often disrupted by various types of noise, posing challenges to the reliability and diagnostic accuracy of the images. This study aims to enhance the Black Widow optimization algorithm and apply it to the task of denoising medical images to improve both the quality of medical images and the accuracy of diagnostic results. By introducing Tent mapping, we refined the Black Widow optimization algorithm to better adapt to the complex features of medical images. The algorithm's denoising capabilities for various types of noise were enhanced through the combination of multiple filters, all without the need for training each time to achieve preset goals. Simulation results, based on processing a dataset containing 1588 images with Gaussian, salt-and-pepper, Poisson, and speckle noise, demonstrated a reduction in Mean Squared Error (MSE) by 0.439, an increase in Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) by 4.315, an improvement in Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) by 0.132, an enhancement in Edge-to-Noise Ratio (ENL) by 0.402, and an increase in Edge Preservation Index (EPI) by 0.614. Simulation experiments verified that the proposed algorithm has a certain advantage in terms of computational efficiency. The improvement, incorporating Tent mapping and a combination of multiple filters, successfully elevated the performance of the Black Widow algorithm in medical image denoising, providing an effective solution for enhancing medical image quality and diagnostic accuracy.

    Abstract Background: Gait imbalance has been reported in overweight individuals and could further impair their mobility and quality of life. As the feet are the most distal part of the body and sensitively interface with external surroundings, evaluating the plantar pressure distribution can provide critical insights into their roles in regulating gait balance control. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of body weight and different gait speeds on the plantar pressure distribution and whole-body center of mass (COM) motion during walking.
    Methods: Eleven overweight individuals (OB) and 13 non-overweight individuals (NB) walked on a 10-meter walkway at three speed conditions (preferred, 80% and 120% of preferred speed). Gait balance was quantified by the mediolateral COM sway. Plantar pressure data were obtained using wireless pressure-sensing insoles that were inserted into a pair of running shoes. Analysis of variance models were used to examine the effect of body size, gait speeds, or their interactions on peak mediolateral COM and peak plantar pressure during walking.
    Results: Significant group effects of peak plantar pressure under the lateral forefoot (P = 0.03), lateral midfoot (P = 0.02), and medial heel (P = 0.02) were observed. However, the mediolateral COM motion and spatiotemporal gait parameters only revealed significant speed effects.
    Significance: Findings from this study indicated that overweight individuals exhibited increased plantar pressure under the lateral aspect of the foot, particularly during the late stance phase of walking, in an effort to maintain a comparable mediolateral COM motion to that of non-overweight individuals. Such elevated pressure in overweight individuals may potentially increase the risk of musculoskeletal pathology in the long term. The identified patterns are noteworthy as they have practical implications for designing targeted interventions and improving the overall health of individuals with a high BMI.

    Abstract Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data reveal the complexity and diversity of cellular ecosystems and molecular interactions in various biomedical research. Hence, identifying cell types from large-scale scRNA-seq data using existing annotations is challenging and requires stable and interpretable methods. However, the current cell type identification methods have limited performance, mainly due to the intrinsic heterogeneity among cell populations and extrinsic differences between datasets. Here, we present a robust graph artificial intelligence model, a multi-view graph convolutional network model (scMGCN) that integrates multiple graph structures from raw scRNA-seq data and applies graph convolutional networks with attention mechanisms to learn cell embeddings and predict cell labels. We evaluate our model on single-dataset, cross-species, and cross-platform experiments and compare it with other state-of-the-art methods. Our results show that scMGCN outperforms the other methods regarding stability, accuracy, and robustness to batch effects. Our main contributions are as follows: Firstly, we introduce multi-view learning and multiple graph construction methods to capture comprehensive cellular information from scRNA-seq data. Secondly, we construct a scMGCN that combines graph convolutional networks with attention mechanisms to extract shared, high-order information from cells. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the scMGCN on various datasets.

    Abstract Background: Robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) has emerged as a promising alternative to classical partial nephrectomy (CPN).
    Aim: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of RAPN and CPN for treating localized renal tumors through a meta-analysis of available literature.
    Methods: Chinese databases, such as CNKI, Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Database (VIP), and Wanfang Full-text Database, were searched using Chinese search terms, and all published articles on PubMed and Web of Science were searched using English search terms. Articles on Localized Renal Tumors were included. RevMan5.3 software was used for meta-analysis. The funnel plots were drawn using Stata software to assess publication bias.
    Outcomes: This study aimed to identify the differences between robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy and classic partial nephrectomy in patients with localized renal tumors.
    Results: In total, 67 articles with 17 677 patients were included. The results demonstrate the advantages of RAPN over CPN for localized renal tumors. Compared to CPN and RAPN had significant differences in intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay duration, incidence of perioperative complications, and proportion of patients requiring blood transfusion. Regarding surgical outcomes, RAPN showed more favorable results regarding the incidence of positive resection margins, postoperative decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR), postoperative local recurrence rate, and proportion of Trifecta achieved. However, there was no significant difference between RAPN and CPN regarding 5-year tumor-specific survival rates.
    Clinical implications: The study suggests that robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy is a viable alternative to classic surgery for renal tumors.
    Strengths and limitations: The strengths of this study are the use of a comprehensive search strategy and the inclusion of studies published in both English and Chinese. The limitations of this study are the small sample size and the need for long-term follow-up data.
    Conclusion: RAPN and CPN have similar overall survival outcomes for treating localized renal tumors. However, RAPN may offer advantages in terms of perioperative outcomes and preservation of renal function. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and to identify the optimal surgical approach for individual patients.
