Abstract Transformer liquid dielectrics play a vital role in safety and reliability of power utility grids under normal and faulty conditions. Liquid dielectrics provide electrical insulation and act as coolant for the power transformer. However, most used dielectrics are made from Mineral Oil (MO) which has low breakdown voltage, flash, and fire point, also posing a risk of contaminating the environment in case of leakage or explosion. Therefore, research explores on potential natural renewable resources to replace the vast use of MO*⁎ Mineral Oil based dielectric. This paper focuses on using Ximenia Oil (XO) and Kalahari Melon Seed Oil (KMS), both being natural esters, for dielectric application. Each of them is mixed at different ratios separately with reclaimed mineral oil to analyse their compatibility with power transformers. Electrical and chemical properties of these esters are tested to find optimal blending ratio for each, and lifetime analysis is applied to further establish their usability. In this study, both XO†† Ximenia Oil and KMS have been identified to be applicable at 75:25 MO: XO ratio and 70:30 for MO: KMS respectively, especially after moisture content reduction. Lifetime analysis has also rendered the two dielectrics applicable as they have a long-estimated lifetime greater than that of MO alone. MO: XO dielectric has been more dominant over KMS, and MO based dielectrics in most property while KMS has shown dominance in the lifetime reliability analysis after 50 kV BDV‡‡ Breakdown Voltage value. Therefore, application of these blends significantly improves the lifetime of the transformer dielectrics hence improving that of the transformer itself.

Abstract Given the recent trends in the MPPT converters in PV systems, which have been researched extensively to improve design, modified closed-loop converter technology based on SoC is presented here. This paper aims to provide detailed information on the modern-day solar Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller and Battery Management System (BMS). Most MPPT controller examination researched in the past is suitable only for fixed-rated battery capacity, which limits the converter capability and applications. The proposed paper uses the distributed energy management control technique to dispatch multi-battery charging based on the State of Charge (SoC). The converter construction is modified here as per the prerequisite of the model. The system hardware is developed and tested using Atmega2560 low power RISC based high-performance microcontroller. The batteries' SoC level and State of Health (SoH) are calculated using embedded sensors and communication platforms through the IoT platform and Global System Monitoring (GSM) technology. The GSM and IoT technology ensure that the different batteries are monitored periodically, and any irregularities are immediately addressed through the distributed energy management control technique. This ensures a safe, reliable, and effective charging of multiple batteries with increased accuracy, thereby maximizing battery life and reducing operational costs.

Abstract The electricity industry has been developed through the introduction of the smart grid. This has brought about two-way communication to the grid and its components. The smart grid has managed to increase the efficiency and reliability of the traditional power grid over the years. A smart grid has a system that is used to measure and collect readings for power consumption reflection, and the system is known as the Advanced Metering Infrastructure. The advanced metering infrastructure has its components too which are the smart metre, metre control system, collector or concentrator and communication networks (wide area network, neighbourhood area network, and home area network). The communication networks in the advanced metering infrastructure have created a vulnerability to cyber-attacks over the years. The reliability of the power grid to consumers relies on the readings from the smart metre, and this brings about the need to secure the smart metre data. This article presents a review of key management methods in advanced metering infrastructure environments. The article begins with an overview of advanced metering infrastructure and then shows the relationship between the advanced metering infrastructure and the smart grid. The review then provides the security issues related to advanced metering infrastructure. Finally, the article provides existing works of key management methods in advanced metering infrastructure and future directions in securing advanced metering infrastructure and the smart grid.

Abstract Cardiovascular disease prediction aids practitioners in making more accurate health decisions for their patients. Early detection can aid people in making lifestyle changes and, if necessary, ensuring effective medical care. Machine learning (ML) is a plausible option for reducing and understanding heart symptoms of disease. The chi-square statistical test is performed to select specific attributes from the Cleveland heart disease (HD) dataset. Support vector machine (SVM), Gaussian Naive Bayes, logistic regression, LightGBM, XGBoost, and random forest algorithm have been employed for developing heart disease risk prediction model and obtained the accuracy as 80.32%, 78.68%, 80.32%, 77.04%, 73.77%, and 88.5%, respectively. The data visualization has been generated to illustrate the relationship between the features. According to the findings of the experiments, the random forest algorithm achieves 88.5% accuracy during validation for 303 data instances with 13 selected features of the Cleveland HD dataset.

Abstract Smart healthcare using the cloud and the Internet of Things (IoT) allows for remote patient monitoring, real-time data collection, improved data security, and cost-effective storage and analysis of healthcare data. This paper proposes an information-centric dissemination scheme (ICDS) for smart healthcare services in smart cities. The proposed scheme addresses the time sensitiveness of healthcare data and aims to ensure consistent dissemination. The ICDS uses decision-tree learning to classify requests based on time-sensitive features, allowing prioritization of access. The scheme also involves segregating sensitive information and distributing digital health data within the classified time to retain time sensitiveness and prioritize access. The learning is then modified for the leaves based on data significance and minimum resources to reduce waiting times and improve availability.

Abstract The growing awareness among the various communities on dramatic climate change in the recent years and impact of fossil fuels as a source of energy which is depleting fast, has got researcher thinking on alternate sources of energy with an aim for sustainable living for the livelihood of many countries. In this context, VPP turns out to be a promising solution as a sustainable future with renewables feeding the plant. VPP is congregation of distributed resources pooled together. Not only is this system efficient with updated digital technologies in the form of Smart solutions, but also capable of providing immense benefits to consumers/prosumers. Immense benefits in the form of sustainable renewable power as a source of income makes VPP attractive to consumers, who turn as prosumers and arguably become one of the most value creators in the energy market. The plethora of R and D in VPP grid adds value to energy business while maintaining and bringing down the ill effects of CO2 emissions. This paper focuses on various aspects and business models, value propositions and the challenges in context to Sub Saharan African region - Botswana.
