Abstract Introduction: The majority of opioid-related deaths occur in suburban communities with people who use alone in their homes.
Background: To reach individuals who use substances alone, Grenfell Ministries, a not for profit agency in Hamilton Ontario created a phone-based supervision service to target individuals who use substances alone.
Methodology: Grenfell implemented a phone line service initially as a 3-month pilot eventually operationalized to a 24/7 phoneline to determine utilization of the service and test operational feasibility. Metrics such as timing of use, number of unique clients using the service and substances used were measured.
Results: The line was provincially utilized. Between February 1st and December 10, 2020, the line was used 64 times. Most calls occurred in the evening, with fentanyl being the most used substance. EMS was dispatched 3 times for overdoses, of which 2 individuals were successfully resuscitated, and one individual's status being unknown.
Conclusion: The overdose prevention line can be implemented to support individuals who use alone. The service can successfully reduce risk of death from individuals who use alone and could be a valuable tool in addressing the opioid crisis. Further study needs to be conducted to determine its efficacy and safety in supporting clients who use alone.

Abstract Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a global environmental problem which has well-documented effects on the physical, chemical, biological, and ecological characteristics of waterways. Less well examined are the economic benefits generated by costly AMD remediation efforts. This research examines trout angler willingness-to-pay (WTP) to maintain fisheries quality benefits resulting from AMD remediation on the North Branch of the Potomac River (NBPR), Maryland. The NBPR has a history of severe AMD-related degradation previously rendering the waterbody unsuitable for many outdoor recreational activities such as trout fishing. However, extensive NBPR AMD remediation activities including nine automated limestone dosers that neutralize acidic water and improve water quality have been critical to developing and maintaining a high quality recreational trout fishery with hatchery-raised stocked trout and naturally reproducing populations of wild trout. To examine trout angler WTP to maintain current NBPR trout fishing quality and hence avoid plausible fishing quality reductions associated with the elimination of nine NBPR limestone dosers, a travel cost recreation demand model of trout angler fishing site choice was developed using data from a survey of Maryland non-tidal anglers. Model results reveal that annual Maryland trout angler WTP to maintain current NBPR trout stocking levels and wild trout abundance, relative to the elimination of the NBPR as a trout fishing site, is about $850,000. These economic benefits to a single stakeholder group - Maryland trout anglers - exceeds the total estimated $340,000 in annual operations and maintenance costs associated with all Maryland limestone dosers. While the positive net economic benefits produced by limestone dosers provide a justification for continuing annual limestone doser expenditures, it's important to note that total economic benefits are likely much higher, as many non-trout fishing benefits remain unaccounted for in this analysis. The approach in this manuscript can serve as a model for practitioners regarding the use of fisheries data and recreational fisher site choice to estimate fishing-related economic benefits from past or for future AMD remediation activities. Given anticipated substantial investments in AMD remediation, additional research in this area is much needed to evaluate past and guide future remediation activities.

Abstract Face images depicting the same individual can differ substantially from one another. Ecological variation in pose, expression, lighting, and other sources of appearance variability complicates the recognition and matching of unfamiliar faces, but acquired familiarity leads to the ability to cope with these challenges. Among the many ways that face of the same individual can vary, some images are judged to be better

Abstract Introduction: Age is the greatest risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). A limitation of randomized control trials in AD is a lack of specificity in the age ranges of participants who are enrolled in studies of disease-modifying therapies. We aimed to apply Emax (i.e., maximum effect) modeling as a novel approach to identity ideal treatment windows.
Methods: Emax curves were fitted to longitudinal cognitive data of 101 participants with AD and 1392 healthy controls. We included the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and tests of verbal fluency and executive functioning.
Results: In people with AD, the earliest decline in the MMSE could be detected in the 67-71 age band while verbal fluency declined from the 41-45 age band. In healthy controls, changes in cognition showed a later trajectory of decline.
Discussion: Emax modeling could be used to design more efficient trials which has implications for randomized control trials targeting the earlier stages of AD.

Abstract We examine whether people conceptualize organized groups as having at least two parts: In addition to members (e.g., Alice), they also have social structures (i.e., roles and relations). If groups have members and social structures, then numerically distinct groups can have the same members if they differ in their structures. In Studies 1-4, participants numerically distinguished groups that had the same members when they had different structures. Participants numerically distinguished even when groups had the same function-the same people playing chess together Monday and Tuesday can be numerically distinct groups. In Study 4, we compare clubs to tables, and find that participants numerically distinguish tables by their structures too (i.e., the configuration of their parts) even when they have the same parts (which can be disassembled and then reassembled with ease). In Study 5, we find that participants rate groups as existing in space and time like concrete objects, suggesting that participants represent groups as at least partially concrete, such that groups have at least two parts (their structures and their members). Finally, in Study 6, we show that people will judge the same person as exemplary with respect to one group but condemnable with respect to another-even when those groups have the same members.
